What was your energy bill for Dec 2024? 4 bed semi detached

Hi all

Husband is saying we're having the heating on too much / too high. Bill for December was £275. It's a four bed semi detached house, had all new heating system and boiler about two years ago, and new double glazed windows around the same time.

He likes it put it on about 16-17 degrees. I am comfortable at 18.5 - it never goes above that. Goes down to 9 at night time.

I absolutely HATE feeling cold. Possible thyroid issue that is being looked into, but when I'm cold it is all encompassing and I cannot focus on anything (WFH two days per week).

So I'm curious - if you live in a similar size property, what was your energy bill for Dec 2024 please?

(Just realised we were obviously all home a bit more than usual late Dec as no school or work)

Thanks

No idea. It was on constantly in December, 4 bed end terraced. 24°C. Day and night. It's a draughty house though. Not as well insulated as other properties out there.

5 bed 1930s detatched, new boiler last year but draughty front door which needs replacing. We tend to only use the wood burner at weekends.

Both wfh, one DC, 18c constantly in day, 14 at night.

Bill from mid Dec to mid Jan was £215 for both.

4 bedroom detached. December's bill was £210. Heating comes on every morning for 2 hours and in the evening for 4 hours. I try not to put it on during the day but I have done if I get really cold. It never goes above 18 and is never on overnight.

Exactly, the monthly direct debit amount is irrelevant really. I pay £240 a month but my December usage was £330.

er, yes, I couldn't go and look at the time but saying I had a credit build up obviously indicated that the DD of £220 amonth was about right to get trhough the winter months of more usage (and I misremembered in fact, it's actually £288 a month).

I think it can be useful to compare what others are paying and what they are doing with the heating and I have no idea how mine compares but December USAGE payments were £197 for Gas and £145 for Elec. November's was £162 for Gas and £127 for Elec, so I guess does show a bump for the cold snap. Compared to August which was $60 for Gas and £178 for Elec.

Detached 5 bed house, 2 offices, 2 people WFH, 4 teens. We have the Nest thermostat on a base of 18 but turn it up whenever we feel cold during the day. Night time it goes down to 16 and heating never kicks in. I do millions of washes/tumble dry/dishwashers a week. 20y old house, seems pretty well insulated as heats up really quickly, so it rapidly gets turned down to whatever setting stops it heating during the day (19/20 usually). I'd have thought we were high usage on the electricity due to billions of devices, computers, dishwasher, drier, gaming teenagers etc. On gas I think they said we were moderate? (Water is another story ..)

Just looked £224 detached 4 bed home, we were home over Christmas and I work from home

Sdpbody · 20/01/2025 14:09

I refuse to be cold in my home.

Our heating is set to 21/22 in the day if we are home.

Blondiebeachbabe · 20/01/2025 14:16

Ours is £159 per month. 5 bed, 3 storey house. We have the heating on from 5am till 7pm every day, at around 21/22 degrees. Then at 7pm it goes down to 17 degrees until 5am the next day.

But what was your actual usage for December, that's the question, not what your DD is?
