Embarrassing problem

Ohwhatnowthenffs · 09/01/2025 22:57

Feel very embarrassed, but also a bit worried.

For a while now I’ve felt a sort of thin, quite hard, maybe two thing I think coming out of my bum 😩 I can’t see what it is and really worried to look, but can feel it if i’m lay down and check.
So hard to explain, is it piles? Or something worse?
I read piles is like grapes? It’s not like that, more like a thin, quite hard thing, freaking me out 🥲

You need to look OP!! and then pop tom the GP. It doesn't sound like piles to me. Piles are like grapes. Good luck!

GoodByeBelly · 09/01/2025 23:00

Use your phone to take a picture then you will.be able to see, or use a mirror down there.....

Anonym00se · 09/01/2025 23:01

Piles aren’t always like grapes, they can be long and thin, like a massive skin tag. They’re usually hard when they’re swollen, but soft once the swelling goes down. Have you been constipated lately? Is it sore?

Moier · 09/01/2025 23:04

Piles are not always like grapes.. my one once was more like a ridged flatter piece of card.. not big but l paid to get it removed.

Yes it’s quite long and hard, has been there a while, not sore really, I forget about it then just remember it’s there. I do get constipated
How long will it last? What do I do 😬

It’s probably worth getting it checked out to be on the safe side. Try and eat lots of fibre and take a stool softener to prevent constipation. You can use ointment if they become swollen (you will know, it hurts!) You can have them surgically removed but most people say that it’s so painful they would have left them alone if they’d known!

How long are they there for?

Sounds ridiculous but really don’t fancy going to the Dr and showing 😩
How do people know that’s what they are to then get ointment for them?

Sounds like they're beyond ointment. Just get to the Doctors. They've seen it all before!

Wendolino · 09/01/2025 23:19

If it's a pile and hanging out that far, it's unlikely to go back in. You can try ointment but it won't make much difference unless it's sore. The only thing to do is see your GP and if it's confirmed to be a pile you can ask for referral to a surgeon, but that wouldn't happen unless it was very painful/thrombosed.
Pp said it's a very painful op to have piles removed. That's true if you need a haemorrhoidectomy, but there are much easier ways of removing them these days. I had mine done and it was almost painless, just a little bit sore the day after.

How did they remove yours?

No, very unlikely

Is it dangerous? Does it have to be removed?

Ohwhatnowthenffs · 09/01/2025 23:24

How did they remove yours?

I can't remember what the process was called but they put a kind of probe inside your bum and it cauterises the veins that are causing the problem. I think it was like those nose hair clippers that go up the nostrils! I had general anaesthetic so I didn't know anything about it till I woke up.

Bramble25 · 09/01/2025 23:30

Get your bum out for the doctor,OP! I know it can be embarrassing but you have a medical concern you need looking into. This=doctor. Hope you get it sorted.

Emptyandsad · 09/01/2025 23:30

Gently, kindly and with the best will in the world, get over your embarrassment and go and see the bloody doctor. Nobody here is going to say "don't worry, just rub it with a potato and it will disappear". We don't know what it is, we're not qualified to diagnose anything remotely (if at all) and this is exactly what doctors are for

Wendolino · 09/01/2025 23:31

Ohwhatnowthenffs · 09/01/2025 23:28

Is it dangerous? Does it have to be removed?

No I don't think so but mine bled so much I had to wear a pad all the time and I became anaemic. They were really big though and I had internal ones as well. The surgeon said he was impressed 😂

Garlicnorth · 09/01/2025 23:31

Not dangerous but can become very inconvenient. You can get cream and ointment from the chemist - it's on the shelves, brand name Anusol and they have own-brand ones the same. The tube comes with a nozzle that you use to insert the medication in your bum ... or you can use a finger if your nails are short.

They do come back, usually if you've been constipated.

Please just go and see a doctor. My husband is a doctor and absolutely nothing fazes him when it comes to bodily functions. . Doctors have had lectures and examinations in this sort of stuff. A doctor will just see it in a clinical manner.

She doesn't know if it's piles. We don't know if it's piles. She needs to see a doctor

This.
I have had a pile and when it is ‘dormant’ it is similar to what you describe (albeit not as big). When it was swollen up, heck did I know it.
I hadn’t even had any children. I think I got it after a very awful food poisoning episode.

She could try treating them, as advised on the NHS page, and make an appointment if the treatment doesn't send the thing back where it belongs.

What makes them swell? This seems to always be the same? Did it go away on its own. I’m literally cringing writing all this, not good with this stuff at all. Never had before, not even when pregnant
