I am selling an item autographed which is more money than I've normally sold anything for. I posted yesterday.
Buyer wants to come and pay cash which is a good idea.
Just to add extra security for myself and as I don't know them.
I asked them to add me on FB and give me their phone number.
They don't want to. Shall I proceed.
I'm nervous.
Profile does seem ok. Why not add me though or give phonenumber?

They said they've never been asked that before?

I wouldn't want to add someone on Facebook that I didn't know - for any reason to be honest. I would be fine with my phone number however. Make sure you meet them in a public place - not at your home - and ideally with a friend.

Phone number dosent want to give either.

Why do you need their phone number and why do you think that would stop you from being scammed?

BarbaraHoward · 09/01/2025 18:03

Just don't hand them the item until you have the cash in your hands. You don't actually need their details if you're getting cash.

Ponderingwindow · 09/01/2025 18:05

I wouldn’t want to give you my info either.

if it is an expensive item, I would want to meet in a public place with cctv. My local police have a camera for this, but plenty of places will work.

Arlanymor · 09/01/2025 18:21

I wouldn't mind about the phone number as it's handy to have if you arrange to meet and someone is running late or if they can't see you at the place where you have agreed to meet - but it wouldn't be a deal-breaker if someone preferred not to share their information, they would just have to turn up on time and be very clear about what they looked like and where to meet etc.

Why would you want them to add you on face ok. It's massively odd and no, I wouldn't be happy with it either. Not to mention that they can block you at any point. After this request, I wouldn't give you my phone number either just in case you are a bit unhinged...
