To make a luxury hotel hamper for our budget holiday

We were supposed to be staying in a very very nice hotel for a few days but for a variety of boring reasons we have now ended up in a very cheap holiday cottahe for two days. Happy to just be away but I was excited about stupid things like little toiletries and a minibar. Is it ridiculous to buy a hamper and then fill it with mini Pringles and mini vodkas etc and surprise myself with it.

if no, what would you put in yours?

I always take nice goodies when we do self catering. Nice gin, biscuits, crisps, maybe some nice cheese if you're not sick of it after Christmas. Some chocolates.

Knittedfairies2 · 08/01/2025 22:55

Do it - you won't end up with half a hamper of things you don't like if you buy it yourself!

This sounds great, I'd add a bottle of champagne, and some fresh juice and mini vodkas.

Fancy shortbread - hand made by someone else obviously!

Eldermillenialyogi · 08/01/2025 22:56

Sure why not

murasaki · 08/01/2025 22:57

Croissants and a good jam.

Headabovetheparapets · 08/01/2025 22:57

Nice coffee, tea or hot chocolate depending on your preference
favourite Chocolates or sweets (I’d have mint or liqueur chocs)
savoury biscuits or straws
pre mix cocktails, if you like them, or ingredients to make your own.
playing cards or similar (if you like to play games)
& if self catering perhaps include breakfast items too
hope you enjoy your break

I was thinking of those really cute mini prosecco bottles! But then I thought - you are on holiday, take a full sized bottle! 🍾

Lindy2 · 08/01/2025 22:59

Do it.

Enjoy your break.

Hookahchakkah · 08/01/2025 22:59

You could get some smoked salmon, cream cheese and bagels when you get there, or take a cool box if driving. Some fairy lights to jazz it up, again if driving.
Obviously on the train you'll be limited by what you can carry..

Molton Brown shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and hand cream.
Decent crisps.
Cheese, biscuits, grapes and chutney.
Dips, and something to dip in them. Maybe veggies to chop up for this purpose.
Selection of fruit from M&S or Waitrose.
Decent bread for toast, and nice jam. Or croissants. Or smoked salmon and cream cheese, with bagels.
A nice candle or diffuser.

Cans of cocktails from M&S

And have a great time
