The flaw in the traitors

Dumbles · 08/01/2025 22:17

Not sure if this has been discussed before as it’s my first time watching the traitors!

Every evening the traitors name three possible people who they might murder. Then to keep up suspense for the viewer the two who aren’t killed come in last the next morning at breakfast.

Why don’t the faithful realise from previous series that the last two to return are also faithful? Then from a process of elimination they can narrow down the traitors.

What am I missing?

YANBU - it’s a clear plot hole
YABU - there’s more to it

They film it multiple times with different contestants coming in last according to a past contestant. I assume fter the first take they know who's gone though 🤔

Iwishiwasagiraffe · 08/01/2025 22:20

Ah I was wondering the same! I haven’t seen previous series so presumed this hadn’t happened before otherwise they would guess

I thought this too but even on The Rest is Entertainment podcast they said what the OP has said and I feel like they would know … so now I’m not sure!

I imagine the murdered person doesn't find out until after or something

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 08/01/2025 22:36

There are so many flaws in The Traitors.

-No contestants ever watch previous series and learn from them.

  • All the Faithfuls prioritise "feelings" about people particularly "gut feelings" rather than any other glaring objective practical evidence
  • None of the faithful ever believe the Traitors might work against each other, despite common sense dictating this might be the case, and previous series evidence that this often happens
  • The Faithfuls all seek evidence of a traitorous/nasty nature to identify the Traitors despite the fact all they've done is receive a tap on the shoulder. No inherent evil or personality disorder required!
  • They all fail to recognise that keeping quiet and flying below the radar can also be a tactic of a Traitor, even though this is a really obvious course of action. They seek a devil they can "see" instead.

I could go on! I watch this show because I think it's a great case study in how poorly our feelings and opinions serve us, as human beings. And how devoted we are as humans to putting feelings (which really mean nothing and are demonstrably unreliable) over actual practical objective evidence in social situations. It makes you wonder how we ever survived to this point in time at all, given that our collective judgement is so weak when it comes to each other.

Dramatic · 08/01/2025 22:39

It isn't always the case though, they have sent traitors in last too and sometimes they've sent one of the people being considered in before the last group

GrazeConcern · 08/01/2025 22:43

@Theredfoxfliesatmidnight thank goodness someone else is thinking along the same lines as me! The ‘he could be a traitor’ based on them not seeming nice etc 😂

mewkins · 08/01/2025 22:47

They didn't do that in previous UK series (not sure about other versions)..people arrived more randomly to breakfast.

Twinstudy · 08/01/2025 22:51

It really annoys me when they say stuff about each other like 'I know you're not a traitor, you just couldn't do that'. You're on a TV show called THE TRAITORS. That you all applied to be on. Any of you is more than capable of being a traitor, it's a game!

bluenova · 08/01/2025 22:55

Linda however is an awful traitor. But she's managing to fly under the radar after her wobbly start.

dayswithaY · 08/01/2025 22:58

They also banish the interesting and intelligent people first.

There is nothing you can do to stop a Traitor selecting you for murder, in the beginning they pick people out of the blue for no real reason.

Sobbing, pleading and spelling out how you can’t be a Traitor is a pointless exercise which just attracts more suspicion.

Getting to the final is based on luck not skill.

Ahh that could be an explanation! As it seems so blindingly obvious otherwise.

Then I guess all the reactions could be from multiple cuts of filming.

There's honestly very little opportunity to use logic or reason. People go on feelings because that's really all they have. One reason why the S2 finale was so incredibly frustrating. It was a rare moment when a player really could have reasoned it out and didn't.

It's an interesting demonstration of how difficult it really is to tell if someone's lying, and how what we think of as guilty behaviour very often really isn't, it's just stress and worry.

One thing I do wish Faithful would ask more, especially in the later stages of the game, is why people haven't been murdered. Traitors often don't really have a strong reason to murder someone but they often have a good reason for leaving someone in. Because they're allied to a Traitor, or because the heat is on them and they're likely to be banished.

Eldermillenialyogi · 08/01/2025 23:16

I've read the film the breakfast scene in multiple orders

Catsandcheese · 08/01/2025 23:18

We have noticed that this has happened this series, not sure if it has always been the case.
Maybe it will change as the episodes go on. But I thought it added a bit of excitement .

RosannaSpider · 08/01/2025 23:21

Shit show

ByHardyAquaFox · 08/01/2025 23:22

The penny dropped hey.
If only that was the only incoherence...

Thethingswedoforlove · 08/01/2025 23:24

Why do traitors want to recruit more? I can’t see what the incentive for that is?

Less chance of getting caught themselves and potentially more control in the group, depending on when the Traitors start turning on each other.

maddening · 08/01/2025 23:34

This was exactly my point even in the last series!

decemberdecember · 08/01/2025 23:35

Yeah - madness to recruit on occasions they aren’t forced to… The fewer of them the better! I’m afraid I’d be murdering… 😂

maddening · 08/01/2025 23:36

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 08/01/2025 22:18

They film it multiple times with different contestants coming in last according to a past contestant. I assume fter the first take they know who's gone though 🤔

But they also only refer to behaviours etc only seen in the take shown when discussing clues etc with each other or at elimination - so I still don't get it?

Ace56 · 08/01/2025 23:40

Yes I’ve also heard that they film it multiple times in different groups. Although after the first take they must all know who was murdered, so presumably they’re faking the surprise?

I’m also always surprised at how they never target the quiet unassuming people at first. The ones who aren’t saying much should be the biggest targets! They’re almost always the most successful traitors. Look at Minah now, absolutely killing it.

Ace56 · 08/01/2025 23:41

Thethingswedoforlove · 08/01/2025 23:24

Why do traitors want to recruit more? I can’t see what the incentive for that is?

I also thought this. They’re doing well as a pair atm, why rock the boat? There will always be the chance to recruit later! Maybe the producers had a hand in order to shake things up a bit

Loads of people are thinking that don't worry
