Builder threatened me

Hello dear mumsnetter, a builder has threatened me to go to debt collection for £100 outstanding charge. He damaged my floor while carrying out the work. I have reserved the £100 for the repair, but he kept denying that. I would like to fight for it but on the other hand, start to worry that all of this harassment might come with the debt collection. Can you pls advise me what I'd better do here?

Sounds like it'll have to go to a small claims court.

Can you prove he caused the damage?

Thanks. I have the picture for before and after. However they are not very clear 😔

You can't just do Debt collection legally without a court order so they would have go to court and win. If the job was £30k I can't imagine them going to court if it was £250 then they might. He would need proof you owe it and you would need proof he doesn't and he damaged floor. If he is denying it I presume you don't have proof.

Thanks, that's very helpful info. Yes, he keeps denying it, which makes me outrageous. I hate builders so much now.

I would try and look for a resolution, he fixes the floor he damaged you will pay the £100.

If you are trying to con him he may be more likely to try and take you to court though as he will feel hard done to.
