Triggers

Do you face your triggers and try and work through them? Or avoid and cut off?

I face them. Hiding away from them does nobody any favours.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 08/01/2025 16:29

I face them if I feel it will be useful, but not for the sake of it.

username299 · 08/01/2025 16:45

Depends what causes the trigger and the effect of being triggered. Some people suffer dissociation, panic attacks and flashbacks when they're triggered.

Jellycatspyjamas · 08/01/2025 16:46

If you try to cut off all triggers you’ll end up with a very small world, and it’s not possible really because the very nature of triggers is that they reside in your subconscious so you won’t be aware of what triggers you necessarily. It really is worth working through known stressors and knowing what a triggered response looks like for you so you can overcome that response.

The comfort zone is a wonderful place, but nothing ever grows there.

I try and face mine. My world would be tiny and miserable otherwise. But I also try and be kind to myself and allow myself to say "not today".

CalmMauveCat · 08/01/2025 17:08

Yes. All of them

Depends. Some days I can get on with it, some days it'll be too much. I mostly have to get on with it.

I face/process/work on them if possible.

All of them

Then you need to work on the trauma that is causing the triggers and find strategies to cope with the effect of being triggered.

Do you have CPTSD?

DaftyLass · 08/01/2025 17:13

I face what I can on my own, I get help to face the rest

I used to dodge my triggers and nearly caused real damage (I had dental phobia, dr phobia, and needle phobia)
Lots of therapy, meds, CBT, DBT, and lots of work, but worth it to be free

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 08/01/2025 17:40

Depends on what they are. I've got some awful ones and for my own sanity I've had to avoid them.

For example, bullies or sa x

Klovos · 08/01/2025 22:43

Face them until they are nothing, then use them for my morning pick me up
