How did she get away with it?

As an aside, the number of separate programs that have been made about this one case, compared with the number of programs about the victims of grooming gangs, is astounding.

ive seen quiet a bit n read quiet a bit about the genuine victims but genuine victims don't post/brag on social media for a reaction and to get a GoFundMe page hence y you probably not seen anything

Dog bites man syndrome.

The reason why a programme has been made is because false accusations such as this are so vanishingly rare.

Unfortunately, men abusing, torturing, raping and killing women and girls is one of the most commonplace things to happen in the world so it doesn’t make for a punchy headline.

AllTheMiceGoClang · 08/01/2025 13:51

Isxmasoveryet · 08/01/2025 13:42

she acted in and faith n said sorry that makes it ok the reason it is being highlighted is that no justice was served and she makes genuine victims look bad and stops authorities taking these things seriously

Thousands of rapists a year get off with zero conviction. Thousands of women don’t report their rapist because they know the system is stacked against them.

Your focus is on a woman who lied?

She only makes genuine victims look bad if you’re the type of person whose default line of thinking is that women are liars.

I really wonder where peoples' priorities lie. The best evidence suggests that more than 50 English towns suffered from Asian child rape gangs and tens of thousands of children were raped, tortured and abused these children to this day have not been properly recognised or helped or recompensed.

And tens of thousands of Asian gang rapists and child torturers got off with minimal sentences, or even no sentences, and were never deported. And many people in the social services and police and local government who were responsible for safeguarding, and failed abjectly have never been held to account or had even the slightest penalty for their dereliction of duty.

Yet people think the news of the day is to be upset because Elon tweeted or one victim got two or three people wrongly accused? Is that really the big issue we should be talking about? Why are so many recent threads on Asian child gang rape and torture not focusing on the actual problem?

Plenty of English grooming gangs too, but they don't fit the racist narrative do they?

Seeing things on social media is not comparable to TV programs.

You still have answered how you think she got away with it. She was sentenced to 8 and a half years in prison. She's not eligible for parole for another 2 years.

Quarter of a million? Are you for real?

A quarter of a million girls over 50 years and likely ongoing, is what's being reported in the American media. I've read some of the court transcripts, and being a retired military officer I thought I had a strong stomach for violence, but these girls were tortured along with being raped, often anally, including with poles and other implements to enlarge their anuses.

forgot this mumsnet standing up for men is a complete no no and heinous crime lol

Bollocks. Standing up in the face of blatant misogyny it’s important for all women.

Stories like this are blatant shoe ins to counteract the rape gangs stories. It’s sickening.

Misogyny is so acceptable. Was going to say nowadays, but it hasn’t changed, society finds more inventive ways to shut women up and stop highlighting shitty male behaviour - what better way than over highlighting the behaviour of one woman to conveniently take the spotlight away from these men?

Rules of misogyny are basically a bingo card right now.

I don't think that is an official figure. It is a figure mentioned in a House of Lords debate in 2019 extrapolated by Lord Pearson of Rannoch. If you scroll down to 4:58pm you will see what he based the figure on.

reschedule it?????

It is not unknown for TV channels to reschedule programmes due to current events.

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 08/01/2025 14:03

That number just doesn’t seem credible sorry. To my knowledge it’s about 300 people at most affected by these gangs from over a decade ago.

I suggest you might want to update your knowledge then:

"In May 2024, 550 suspects had been arrested and 4,000 victims identified."

https://news.sky.com/story/grooming-gangs-scandal-timeline-what-happened-what-inquiries-there-were-and-how-starmer-was-involved-after-elon-musks-accusations-13285021

And the figures in the article are likely still the tip of a very rotten iceberg.

Grooming gangs scandal timeline: What happened, what inquiries there were and how Starmer was involved - after Elon Musk's accusations

Sir Keir was head of the Crown Prosecution Service for five years when grooming gangs were being investigated.

The thing is, there will always be people who lie about these things, especially when it’s such a high priority case.

Whenever there is a high profile sex abuse scandal involving multiple victims there are people who jump on it for the compensation. There will absolutely have been people who claimed they were abused by Jimmy Saville as well.

But the things is, if we concentrate on those, then we lose sight of the real victims. It’s easy to become fixated on someone who has lied because we know that it’s wrong and two wrongs don’t make a right.

But the more attention we pay to those who aren’t being truthful, the less attention is being given to A, the real victims, and B, bringing the perpetrators to justice.

I think it would have been good to put a trigger warning on your post.

Those papers (if you mean the ones circulated on social media) relate to the vile members of the Oxford grooming gang. They are all now in prison, all serving long sentences.

No it’s not.
It’s because so many women are accused of lying, or back out of reporting so by default are seen as liars, or their behaviour deems them liars (been drinking, wore lacey pants, we’re on a date, we’re married and in bed with their rapist husband etc etc etc)

The number of women falsely accusing is tiny, yet for people like you is the main problem in rape cases. Like I said, sickening.

No, people like you and other people for whom defending men is the highest priority are the reason the system is stacked against ‘genuine’ victims and women don’t come forward.

Honestly, even the phrase ‘genuine victims’ belies your focus.

You know, this woman has absolutely no part in the systemic lack of credibility afforded to vulnerable working class girls over the decades that they have been harmed by raping gangs. None. In fact, Ellie, wasn't even born when I had classmates picked off by grooming gangs in 1994 in a town that barely gets a mention when it is being discussed.

SensibleSigma · 08/01/2025 14:12

I mean, I now know Ellie’s name.

I do not know the names of the many, many men found guilty or of any of the men she falsely accused. What does that tell you?

Isxmasoveryet · 08/01/2025 14:03

No, it's the inherent misogyny found in society, the police and the justice system.

Fake reports of rape are vanishingly rare. That's the reason why so many different programs have been made about one individual.

25% of women have been raped or sexually assaulted. That's 8.6 million women.

If every woman was the focus of a 3 part documentary, like Williams is, it would take you over 2953 years to watch them all, providing you did nothing other than stare at the telescreen.

5 in every 6 women never report their abuse to police.

Of those that do, only 3 in 100 alleged perpetrators are charged, never mind convicted.

But let's focus on the one woman who lied, was caught, and punished for it. (As she should have been)

justteanbiscuits · 08/01/2025 14:17

@AllTheMiceGoClang

"I’m also willing to bet my right arm that the lives of the raped girls (in their thousands) are ruined beyond the lives of falsely accused men. It’s laughable that anyone believes men are deeply impacted by this."

I have a relative who spent 5 years in jail after a false accusation, so yeah, I think his life was pretty much ruined. His wife had remarried, he has never rebuilt the relationship with his children, he lost his career. Everything. And no amount of compensation can help.

This does not take away from the pain and suffering of people who have been abused. And he is just one person - as others have said, the number of false accusations is shockingly low. And this was a complicated case - the girl was being abused, but the abuser convinced / groomed her to say it was someone else.

Sounds like she got a longer sentence than most rapists (the tiny minority that get reported, identified and convicted) so I'd hardly call that getting away with it.

People are talking about men being affected and hand waiving it off but in this scenario men as well as women and children in the Pakistani community will have been adversely affected by this horrific scandal and the false accusations that were laid upon them.

It’s already bad enough for people of ethnic minority status in this country, but accusations like that have really fooled working class communities by making them believe insidious narrative likes ‘they are coming after our girls’.

CatsMagic · 08/01/2025 14:24

But anyway, this thread is about a false allegation and shouldn’t be tied to that scandal in any way, other than to make people think twice before believing the toxic narratives around Pakistani grooming gangs.

You are all over threads discussing the historical and current crimes repeatedly trying to play down the sheer scale of the rape and abuse of children.

Why ?
