Am I being prudish, or do I have a point?

NC for this.

I've just sent the following email to a company I ordered underwear from:

I've just received my order confirmation and was quite shocked by the accompanying image. I don't want to screenshot it to resend, so hopefully you can work out the image I mean: it is of two women/girls lying on their fronts outside wearing black pants.

The woman (I hope) or girl on the left is very thin, which immediately made me assume she was a teenager. One of her breasts is clearly visible.

I'm not prudish about breasts at all, but it made me extremely uncomfortable to receive an image of what appears to be an almost-naked teenage girl. Given you also sell bras, it seems totally unnecessary for her to be completely topless.

I recommend you review the images you send out to your customers, as this has put me off using your company again.

As I say, I don't have an issue with breasts- I've breastfed in public many a time. It was mainly the fact that, based on her body shape, the woman/girl in the photo looks very young (post-pubescent, but pre-adult) and the exposed breast was completely unnecessary.

So what do you think: did I overreact?

So what? They were see the picture is from an email confirmation. There's no explicit images on your phone? It's a very ODD statement to make.

Perhaps you need to be a teacher, or otherwise work in a profession where child safeguarding is paramount, to understand my reluctance.

I'm looking forward to the reply from the company.

I'm not!

I think she is the one working for the company.

I wish! I'd be getting a fuck-off bonus after this!

Please tell us what they said when you apologised. It sounds like your intentions were good. I don't know if you realise the screenshot has your first name in, if you want to hide under a rock about this forever 😁

I did realise it after I sent it and couldn't be bothered to do anything about it, but in the advice of another poster, I have now asked MNHQ to remove it.

I will be telling everyone I know about this, so no worries there- it's too hilarious not to share!

I suspect there'll be a sarcastic version that they'll never send and you'll get the professional one!

Love it OP! I wonder how many sales they've got from this 😆

They've had one from me 😆😆

Please don’t undermine me. Considering you can’t tell the difference from a boob to an elbow, you should perhaps refresh your CPD. Indeed, as a teacher, you run into many people of various shapes and ages. Perhaps you need to educate yourself before making stupid comments about slimmer women.

It’s a picture captured from an email confirmation for expensive underwear. That’s that. You wouldn’t be the first teacher to order underwear from a website like this.

OP this thread is brilliant and has genuinely cheered me up 😁😁😁😁x

But that's clearly not true, is it? Because I'm a woman and I'm concerned about it.

pretty sure even teachers are allowed to shop for underwear.

Happiestathome · 08/01/2025 18:43

@AmIJustAPrude this thread is hilarious and your responses are particularly refreshing on an AIBU. It’s given everyone a laugh. I can see where you were going with it all (before it became an elbow and we had a head 😂). I also work in education.

I guess the OP needs to have a conversation with the senior leadership team in her school to confirm whether she can order underwear for herself 😂.

Have you overreacted, yes. Excessively
That fucking drawing though…unintentionally funny. So very rubbish
Great website I love their products

I am thinking that you need a change in career .

Clearly sales and marketing would not suit you but I am convinced there is a new career for you in the NHS.

With you on the NHS pay roll, the statistics for breast cancer would go right down. You could be Wes Streeting's secret weapon

I certainly hope she doesn’t teach the sciences. It’s hardly a surprise kids are failing in this area if they’re being taught by people like this.

Oh my god, I'm in absolute hysterics! I've just zoomed right in and you are absolutely right, it's her elbow! 😂What an absolute tit, excuse the pun!

To make it worse, I'm a lesbian- you think I'd be able to tell the difference between an elbow and a breast!

I'm so sorry for wasting everyone's time- I now need to send a grovelling apology to the company regarding me email! Any suggestions for how to phrase it?!

This is quite possibly the stupidest thing I have ever done in my life.

Sorry but I am absolutely howling

I wasn't trying to undermine you; I'm sorry you've taken it that way. A few people on the thread don't understand why I wouldn't want to screenshot the image, whereas to me (and a few others) it's obvious, so I surmised that it's something you'd only consider if your job involved child safeguarding.

I'm not sure any teaching CPD involves telling the difference between breasts and elbows- certainly none that I've undertaken, clearly!

I also don't think it's fair to say I was making stupid comments about slimmer women- I'm slim myself. Rightly or wrongly, I was genuinely concerned that the woman in the photo could be a teenage girl, since her face wasn't included in the photo and she is- to me, at least- unusually slim. I'm not judging her for that, but I can't deny that I felt uncomfortable with the image without the context of her face. Now I've seen the uncropped image, she is clearly an adult.

I apologise for using the completely unknown and unnecessary “howled with laughter” to say I laughed hard at something. Now I feel so stupid and idiotic for because I must have hurt a lot of people with my thoughtless comment.

I'm not sure how that's relevant to you accusing me of being a man?

Also, shopping for underwear doesn't usually involve taking screenshots of email confirmations.

Bit harsh!

Also, rightly or wrongly, the KS1&2 Science Curriculum doesn't contain any references to either breasts OR elbows! Luckily, I'm far more knowledgeable about Space, States of Matter and Forces.

You are absolutely overreacting, and honestly, being insulting. You’re actually offended enough to email the company because you deemed a model to look like a teenager because she’s thin? Are you kidding?
Lots of women are thin, and they are also allowed to buy underwear, and feel sexy and BE sexy in pictures, without the judgement of some random who has deemed their body not “appropriate.”
I’m actually gobsmacked at your reaction to this.

I'm sorry, are you genuinely accusing me of having inappropriate images on my phone? Do you not realise you've massively crossed a line here?

I'm reporting your comment. Hope you get a ban.

You're a slim woman, explaining that the woman in the photo is unusually slim. Are you delusional? Perhaps you need an eye examination.

CPD in human anatomy would be a suitable place to start to bring you up to speed.

I didn't accuse you of anything. I said perhaps there's something else you're hiding in your photo album - which could be anything.
