to think housing associations need to do more stringent checks on who they employ to go into tenants homes.

There was something on ITV News several weeks back about how a Peabody tenant was suspicious that no work had been done on her flat after she had been decanted so she set up a camera in her home and it caught the contractor going through her knicker drawer

Tonight ive just seen this.

They should at least all have DBS checks before they are employed in ANY role that involves going into a person's home.

The problem is that someone could be a perv but never have been caught, and no amount of checking would find them.

Its not just perverts The link clearly says Sanctuary housing worker stabs tenant.

If it had been the other way around this thread would already be pages long with posts about problem tenants.
And that contractor did already have a crminal record.

They need to be better at responding to complaints as well. When DM was in a HA house, they sent someone to do some plastering who then proceeded to STRONGLY encourage her to hire him independently to do the painting. He was really intimidating to her, and after I reported it to the HA he turned up with a load of verbal abuse on how he'd nearly lost his job etc. I called to report THAT and then we had radio silence... until 3 months later they sent the same guy to replaster another room!

They should all carry out checks, references and Enhanced DBS Checks - however, checks are only good for those who behave and have not been caught, so often these episodes will not raise any flags sadly! Any issues, then report the operative. You may also have a sub-contractor working in your home (housing associations to cut costs are subbing out a great deal of work and not necessarily to the best, but the cheapest!), so not from the housing association and they may not have been checked as thoroughly, but should have been. You should always ask to see their IDs and if you are not sure then don't let them in, especially if no prior appointment has been made and it should always be. Also do complain, as you are paying the wages of those that come out to do work on your homes, so you have every right to expect a good quality of work and behaviour, at all times!

Should have posted this as a reverse. Lesson learned
