Rachel from accounts has crashed the economy

1000 replies

Almn0etd · 07/01/2025 21:01

So borrowing costs are now even higher than when Liz Truss was around.

The economy is well and truly cooked and in a far worse shape now that Rachel accounts is in charge.

Why isn’t this dominating the news cycle? Because it’s Labour.

The Tories were atrocious. Labour are an indescribable disaster for this country, surpassing the lowest of the low bars. Cue Labour apologists who don’t mind being made poorer and having the country destroyed, as long it’s Labour doing it to them.

What did people here think about Rishi Sunak's Chancellorship?

BIossomtoes · 17/01/2025 11:35

MyNameIsX · 17/01/2025 11:23

I consider it a statement of fact, and stand by it.

Come now though, let us not fall out on a Friday. Let’s return to her competence as Chancellor.

Yes, let’s ignore your misogyny as if you never said it.

You simply cannot label me a misogynist following a remark about one woman - that’s patently absurd. But if you wish to ignore my comment, as you say, great.

So, back to her competence.

Absolute car crash. Yes, a lot of things were forced upon him due to Covid, but by God, did he bugger that up!

Settle down, you’ve made your point.

And no, you can’t - not with any validity.

turul · 17/01/2025 12:09

There may be a problem with oil prices in the near future. Saudi Aramco has received inquiries from Indian and Chinese buyers for up to 0.75million barrels per day to make up for shortfalls from new sanctions on Russian supply.
My opinion is that we are very unlikely to see prices fall further.

Ms Reeves also told the BBC’s Political Thinking podcast with Nick Robinson, released on Friday, that she was “happy” to be known as the Iron Chancellor – a nod to Margaret Thatcher’s Iron Lady nickname.

Who calls her the Iron Chancellor? Now, that’s what you call bollocks, to quote a PP.

Oh dear. Where did that come from?

What nonsense

EasternStandard · 17/01/2025 12:35

Reeves is better off focusing on this unexpected decline than thinking up her own nicknames that no one uses.

There has been a surprise contraction in retail sales in December, despite the month being key for many retailers due to Christmas shopping, official figures show.

Retail sales fell 0.3% last month, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

No drop at all was expected, not least a 0.3% drop. Sales growth of 0.4% had been forecast by economists

God, why would you summon the ghost of Thatcher when you are a Labour government about to deliver the mother of all welfare cuts?

MyNameIsX · 17/01/2025 12:49

Under pressure from Reeves.

Strict rules on mortgage lending could be loosened to allow more people to borrow for a home, as regulators respond to a call to boost to the economy.
In a newly-published letter, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) says it will investigate ways to simplify rules brought in following the 2008 financial crisis.
It is likely to review the balance between protecting borrowers and access to home loans, in a move that would be welcomed by lenders.

Yep, that will fix the ‘housing affordability crisis’.

Get people into increasingly risky debt, that'll fix it, no problem during a cost of living crisis and increased borrowing rates. Behold, another foot to shoot.

I think he managed the economy to the best of his ability and did his best to keep it afloat. Furlough was a good thing for example.

Easier on the eye than our Rachel, too.

Ahem.

Keir Starmer touts relationship with Donald Trump as he seeks US-UK trade deal.

Good luck with that. Labour have heavily criticised Trump for years, and sent out campaigners for Harris last summer. And here we are witnessing them bending the knee before Trump. Speaking of which, remember when Starmer took the knee for a man killed in Minnesota.

Hypocrisy and revisionism in action.

Trump is going to humiliate these clowns. Can you imagine Starmer and Lamey turning up in Washington to the court of Trump and Musk.

This is what happens when you tout your socialist and leftie bollocks for years, without imagining the consequences of your relationship with the country that makes up 25% of global economy.

Not sure it was. Paying fit and healthy people to sit at home and borrowing and printing billions to pay for that Covid largesse is what eventually finished if the economy. He should have pushed back hard against lockdowns. Rachel from accounts came along and set fire to the dumpster.

The furlough billions of course didn't remain in the hands of joe public sat at home, it ended up in the hands of the super rich and there was never a plan to get it back - thus the wealth inequality gap grows.

I’m not sure that’s entirely true. Apparently a lot of it ended up in saving accounts where it remains.
