I have lost my mooncup (honestly cannot find it, think it must have fallen into the bin) and was considering asking if anyone had one they no longer want.
I would be happy to sterilise and use a second hand one but does this make me a freak ?
AIBU to consider this ?

silvercrown · 05/05/2008 20:56

I was actually going to put a post on here recently to find out if anyone actually uses these things!!! Obviously yes. Makes me squirm personally. Aren't they abit fiddly????

NaughtyNigella · 05/05/2008 20:58

um.
no.
that's just nasty

FrannyandZooey · 05/05/2008 21:06

hooray hatrick, you have it spot on

silvercrown there is a large enthusiastic band of mooncup wearers on MN
not fiddly once you get used to them

Tatterdemalion · 05/05/2008 21:09

You don't get a brand new speculum, and that will have been up more ladies fanjo's than you've had devonshire cream teas, I'll bet.

Sidge · 05/05/2008 21:17

I wouldn't.

You could potentially catch something like hepatitis, unless you have access to an autoclave and can sterilise it at 134 degrees!

And then it might melt

PS Speculums are often disposable now. Horrid plastic things.

PotPourri · 05/05/2008 21:18

Personally, would not go for that myself, and I am up for recycling practically everything!

onepieceoflollipop · 05/05/2008 21:22

The mooncup information leaflet advises against "sharing" with another woman. I guess in effect this is what you would be doing - although the kind mnetter offering hers doesn't sound as if she wants it back.

It doesn't give a reason btw for not sharing.

PinkTulips · 05/05/2008 21:33

[cough] any of you who have a large one going spare, how much would you want for it?

sorry to those of a more delicate disporition but as i'm sure my gp and midwives had their hands up far more fanjos than i'd like to count and dp was as far from a virgin as you're likely to get (as was i) i think a secondhand steralised mooncup is fairly non threatening

SmugColditz · 05/05/2008 21:34

It's no different to have surgery - all those things have been in other people before you./

Cappuccino · 06/05/2008 09:29

sidge are you suggesting that I have hepatitis

Of course not Cappuccino!

(Unless you've led a particularly hedonistic lifestyle! Or ever been on holiday. Or had sex. )

mrsruffallo · 06/05/2008 11:39

YABU.
That is beyond frugal.
Buy a new one.

PinkPussyCat · 06/05/2008 11:47

Lol Mrsruffalo - I read that as 'beyond fungal'!

Eeeeeeeuuuuw

mrsruffallo · 06/05/2008 11:52

LOL-No doubt that too, Pinky

mrsbabookaloo · 06/05/2008 11:54

but they are expensive though!!

My sis bought me one. I left it in the box for a year. Then tried to use it having read some advice on here. Cut off the stalk a bit too enthusiastically and once I'd got it in I couldn't get it out. In the end dh had to help and admitted he was traumatised afterwards.

I thought that I would get another one and try again and not cut the stalk off so much, but then I found out they are 16 quid! I never thought they'd be so expensive.

I suppose that's only 6 or so boxes of tampons though, isn't it. I should do it. No, RainyWednesday, yours wouldn't fit me!

mrsruffallo · 06/05/2008 11:57

I suppose 16 quid is cheap if you are going to use it for years!
I am sure that Cappucino is lovely, but I still wouldn't share a mooncup with her

asteptoofar · 06/05/2008 16:51

Rainy

I would love your mooncup (I will thoroughly sterilise though....)

I had a bigger one as am over 30 (have had 2 sections too) but found it too big so was going to try the smaller one (I must have a small fanjo and not the slack sort they expect over 30's to have!! )

Woo hoo! I'll give it a good boil before I post it and then you can unleash the Miltons or whatever you fancy

Trying to think what the best email address to leave is, bearing in mind I can't go back and delete it ... Might have a fiddle with my settings and see if I can make myself contactable first
