Bread vs toaster

About to start the hunt for a new toaster and just wanted to have a rant about the fact most toasters do not seem to be made to deal with the length of a slice of bread. Or maybe the issue is with the bread. Either way...why?!?

Recommendations gratefully received.

Also interested if there are other things in life that align soooo poorly....

Get a cheap 4 slice long toaster and toast the bread sideways. There are extra long toasters with double lift that almost accommodate non-square slices but they tend to come with the added price tag. It's a conspiracy! 😂

I am 100% with you on this. I think it's because they now design toasters for the entire EU market and most EU countries don't have the standard UK bread size.

What I recommend to do although it will make you look utterly mad - get a bit of corrugated cardboard, a slice of bread, draw around the bread onto the card (preferably two pieces of card stuck together, but one works) cut it out and take it into a physical shop to test all the toasters. It has to be thick enough otherwise it just slips between the elements.

4-slice toasters don't necessarily work, I found out to my utter frustration. I went back to the cardboard bread method and now have a toaster which doesn't leave a 2cm strip of warm bread at the edge.

Ugh yes and so few toasters can fit a crumpet in either, the slots are always too narrow. Everything is just shit these days 😡

i actually took a piece of bread with me to the shops last time I needed a toaster (wrapped of course). A few people smiled when they saw it but another customer asked to borrow it to try for size in the toaster they were looking at.

But yes, a 4 slicer is the way to go
