ApplePay under 13

Is there any way to get ApplePay added to the phone of a 12 year old, or will the only option be to factory reset, set up a new Apple ID and change her DOB on the new account?

Genuine need for it - travels to school alone and uses public transport, has been nearly stranded a couple of times when she couldn’t find her bank card. ADHD so she is trying her hardest, it’s not just carelessness. However this would solve the problem. I just don’t want her to lose her memories, photos etc if it’s at all avoidable. Her friends have it on their phones, so I’m not sure if it’s actually the DOB or another issue.

Have tried to add our bank cards as I originally thought it was because you can’t use it for the bank account of an under 13, but this doesn’t work either.

My DS is eagerly awaiting being 13 so he can get this! As far as I know they do have to be 13.

if she can keep track of her phone but not bank card could you get a phone case that holds the bank card as well?

Thank you for the suggestion. This was the first thing we tried. She kept taking it off to fiddle with and it got lost.

For anyone reading this and thinking just tell her not to, or make a consequence etc - she really can’t help it. She does absolutely amazingly at navigating her ADHD symptoms, and we assist as much as possible.

She’s only just turned 12 so another year isn’t going to work (private school so school is an entirely different city to where we live, we can’t just jump in the car and be there to pick her up in ten mins). I think we will just have to bite the bullet and make a new ID!

Considered Google pay? Not sure if same age restriction? I have Google wallet, multiple cards can be added.

My DD was always losing her bank card. It now stays in a wallet with an AirTag in, we keep her keys in there too so we can track where it is.

Does this work on an iPhone? I thought Google Pay was only for Android devices.

Not sure, its via a Google account, my husband has a Google account, but he doesn't use any pay services, not even Apple pay. If you can download Google wallet on an iPhone, all you'll need is a Google mail account (i have one but don't actually use it for mail)

I use Google wallet for everything

I had to get my teen a clear case and she put her bank card in the back of her phone case till she had Apple Pay set up…. It’s kinda the same thing if it’s put in and out at time of use.. and some readers read without taking it out. Apple Pay is obviously easier though. I have no solutions other than changing the DOB.

We did try that but watching her lift the case off slightly to get it each time and her butterfingers was a nerve wracking experience!
