Front & centre on mumsnet 🤣 His views are front & centre on most British media & all over social media. Yes I am very happy he has raised this again as rape culture & gang rape is a serious & terrifying issue across Europe ( Germany & Sweden to name two countries) so any exposure is good.

You are happy with misinformation?

Even the Tory party has criticised Musk for "sharing things that are factually inaccurate".

Billydavey · 03/01/2025 17:17

Victims are calling for the recommendations to be actioned

you agreed the conservatives were at fault by not actioning them

youre still saying they should not action them but have a new enquiry. You are all
over the place op!

If they had been actioned at the time there would be no cries for a new enquiry!
I would however like to know what is going to happen authority figures who didn't raise the alarm & had vital information that would have protected the children & young adults. Has the inquiry gone far enough?

Maybe we can take a view on whether the inquiry has gone far enough once its recommendations have been implemented.

just to be clear

are you saying the correct action when something is not carried out that you feel should have been (actioning the recommendations), is to continue not acting but instead start a whole new enquiry only 2 years after the last one!

that’s what you’re saying?

I have news for you. Sadly rape culture is prevalent across the entire world, not just in England, Germany and Sweden.
Elon Musk lives in a country with a particularly bad record for this (the United States) and grew up in another (South Africa) so it's surely strange that he's never spoken out about this issue before, or in those contexts?
(never mind his relationship with rapist Trump)

OneLemonDog · 03/01/2025 17:27

Chainzreaction · 03/01/2025 17:11

Yes I do but it is now 2025. We got the recommendations in 2022. Are they outdated now? Do they need modernising.
I can't speak for Elon unfortunately but I feel he is correct in calling out the government.

Which reccomendations for stopping child sexual abuse do you think may be outdated now, OP?

I'm only pointing out that you've been on MN all day actively promoting his ignorant intervention. If you think that's a laughing matter, that's for your own conscience.

No I'm laughing at you.
I don't think his intervention is ignorant? Do you condone grown men drugging & raping young children & girls? Silence & turning a blind eye is ignorant.. but for some it seems ignorance is bliss...

His intervention is ignorant because he doesn't seem to be in possession of any of the facts and is instead tweeting with the aim of inciting a mob and furthering himself.

Ffs
drugging and raping people is horrifically wrong. Clearly

Musks intervention is ignorant and has nothing to do with prevention and everything to do with nasty dog whistle racist right wing politics.

it’s disappointing but not surprising that there are so many people who are so keen to support this that they will pile in to a discussion knowing very little about the subject and caring even less

its you op. You are part of the problem

Billydavey · 03/01/2025 17:38

And I know you’re not responding to my questions as you’re in a complete mess and have twisted and turned so much you can’t get out of it.

Are you also very happy with his attacks on Jess Phillips?

Jess Phillips who as an opposition MP was one of the most prominent campaigners for the victims and who oversaw nothing relating to the rape gangs.

OneAmberFinch · 03/01/2025 17:42

This is so annoying to read. These aren't the gotchas you think they are.

I think there is scope to go deeper into specifically Pakistani/Asian Muslim violent group-based CSA in its own investigation. The 2022 report highlighted that the cultural patterns were very poorly understood by police.

I think the recommendations of the 2022 report should be implemented. Why wouldn't I?

I think it is likely that a report commissioned into race-based crime statistics in 2018-2022 would have faced significant pressure to downplay any findings that appeared to demonise non-white ethnic groups and it would be interesting to see what a report in 2025 led by a different set of people would find and recommend.

I think the Tories did a terrible job and it was also a poor decision to increase immigration from these countries as they did.

I think Labour will struggle to take strong action given the threat they face electorally in especially Midlands/northern English seats. This is not just at the parliamentary level but also in councils.

These aren't mutually exclusive positions so stop being boring and repeating cliches over and over.

I'm disappointed & confused as to why she doesn't warrant a national inquiry & Oldham is as far as it goes..

This is what I am referring to. Phillips rejected the call for a national enquiry into rape gangs. Why ?? It is very disappointing.

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, standing behind a black lectern on a stage, speaks to an audience

Kemi Badenoch calls for national inquiry into 'rape gangs'

Alexis Jay, who led a major inquiry into historical child sex abuse, says changes are needed, not more research.

Are you taking about the request from OC that she denied?

Because the request wasn't for a national inquiry, it was for the government to lead an inquiry locally, in Oldham. Jess Phillips said that a local investigation should be locally led, as per Rotherham and Telford.
