Vinted scam!

autumngirl714 · 02/01/2025 21:09

Hi all!
This is a follow on thread for a previous Vinted query post I put on here, I'm just after advice again.
This isn't so much as a AIBU anymore, I just need some advice so posting here for traffic.

I think I've been scammed and don't know what to do.
Purchased item from Vinted last week. I was a bit suspicious as the profile had no reviews and was just a black profile pic, but it was something my son really wanted for his birthday so took the risk.
I wanted a few days and he hadn't posted so I sent a polite message and he replied saying he was going to post that day. He then made a postage label.

Fast forward 4 days and nothing. Label tracking is still saying waiting to post.
I messaged him asking if it was posted as he had previously advised and he said "will update soon". I then checked his wardrobe and he's relisted it, exact same photos. Exact same price. Exact same listing.

So I checked and I was able to cancel but Vinted have put a message on saying waiting for seller to confirm they've not sent to which I'm assuming he's ignored as nothing changed.

So what happens now? I've reported his profile and Vinted have automatically rejected my report. I tried messaging them and got an automatic response and it won't let me click I need more help.

When will I likely to get my money back? How long will Vinted take to wait for him to confirm? What if he says he's sent it when he hasn't?
How do these scammers even make money from this!??

They have a number of days to send the item and if they don’t the money automatically gets refunded back to you.

autumngirl714 · 02/01/2025 21:13

That time has passed but nothing seems to have happened and I'm assuming this is due to the seller creating a label. I have cancelled it as Vinted did nothing and now I have to wait for the seller to co firm!!! What sort of process is this?!??

OP posts:
snowlady4 · 02/01/2025 21:19

I've always found them really good at refunds and investigating thi gs like this. I wonder is there a delay because of the new year holiday?
He won't get your money anyway until parcel is received and you accept it as bring as advertised and not faulty etc. Keep following up with vinted. I'm sure they will refund you and ban him.
Shame about the item though

autumngirl714 · 02/01/2025 21:25

Thank you @snowlady4 !
The problem is I don't know how to follow it up? I can't private message Vinted and all my other attempts has just ended up with an automated response?
Why do scammers even do this? How do they profit? What even is the point!

Vinted are utterly shit in my experience.

Someone sent me something completely different from what I had ordered. It wasn't their fault, the delivery company messed up the labels.

Unfortunately for me, because I had taken delivery of it, I either had to pay to return it or accept it. But i couldn't return the item I had purchased because I hadn't received it.

Vinted just didn't care. I ended up paying for an item that was no use to me as if I'd paid to send it back to the seller, they wouldn't have accepted it as it wasn't their item. So I'd have been even more out of pocket.

Sassybooklover · 02/01/2025 21:41

From what I understand the Seller gets 5 working days to post the item from the time you purchase. However, they can leave it to day 5 before creating a postage label, which then gives them another 5 working days to post the item! So it could be 10 working days before a Seller posts!! Unfortunately, some create a label days after you've ordered, and then never bother sending. Vinted don't release the funds to the Seller until you have received the item and confirmed all is OK. So, no I don't see the point in creating a postage label, to never send the item either, it seems pointless!!

Dinosweetpea · 02/01/2025 21:45

At the bottom of the automated messages there is usually a need more help option.
I bought a pair of trainers, seller claimed to have sent them within 3 minutes of purchase then uploaded a fake proof of post label with a fake address. I reported it to vinted and they cancelled the order and refunded me immediately.
Keep trying to message Vinted.
I now never buy from people with no reviews or profile pics.

Serene135 · 02/01/2025 21:50

The seller might have a duplicate item or a few of the same item. They might have relisted because they have another one to sell but still planned to post your item. I would have just waited for the postage deadline. If they don’t send the item then they don’t get the money.

LetThereBeLove · 02/01/2025 22:02

You've already posted about this. I remember telling you to cancel the order. You will get your money back.
As pp has said some sellers have duplicates of items they are selling and this may be the case with your seller.

Frankinator · 02/01/2025 22:06

I was sure I'd been scammed on Vinted. The seller got delisted 2 days after I'd bought the item, and the postage label he shared was a complete fake. I reported to Vinted who said if it didn't turn up within a month (or something stupid) that I could request a refund. Anyway, I'd written the whole purchase off and assumed I'd have to request a refund - and then the item turned up, well within the timescale, and was perfect. So who knows with Vinted!

I've already pointed that I'd made a previous thread out in the second line of my post but thanks for repeating that... I guess 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes I think you're right! No reviews or picture and I won't be ordering again 😬
I should've known. All their listings are weird prices too like £5.95 or £10.43.....

autumngirl714 · 02/01/2025 22:49

@LetThereBeLove I started a new thread for the traffic which I also pointed out in the first post. Many people do this when after some advice on here....

I know you're trying to pull me up by pointing it out, but you didn't need to read or comment if it bothers you that much. I'd already noted that to begin with 🙄

Only thing I'd watch out for OP is if you cancel the sale Vinted will automatically leave you negative feedback - and customer services will then tell you that the only way to delete the feedback is for the seller to delete it from your profile.

Happened to me last week as the item was a size L in a brand where L = UK size 14-16 but Vinted incorrectly categorised it as a 12. Even though I pointed out that it was an error on Vinted's part they maintained the only way for the auto negative feedback to be deleted was for the seller to do it. Thankfully the seller was lovely and deleted it straight away for me, but I get the sense your fella might not be so helpful...

Wheelz46 · 02/01/2025 23:41

I don't know much about vinted as I have never purchased with them, do you have a credit card set up on it?

I work in fraud and if a customer doesn't receive purchased goods, you can raise a dispute and try get your money back that way.

That’s weird because the exact same thing happened to me, but vinted refunded both me and the seller with no fuss at all. Then, bizarrely, the correct item appeared about 4 months later 😂 so I guess it was free.

You obviously got all my luck 🙄 😂

I was expecting them to do the same, but they were utterly shit. What's the point of paying the buyer's premium when it doesn't cover situations like that?

Won't be buying from Vinted again after that tbh.

autumngirl714 · 03/01/2025 20:54

Well the seller has posted the item today.
So this is after them lying about sending it on the 27th and then again lying about it being sent yesterday. They are aware I wanted to cancel the order and have sent it past the 5 working days threshold because Vinted are just inconsistently crap!!!!

I'm really annoyed about it. He will be getting a terrible review from me regardless of the item! Maybe I wasn't being scammed (will see when the parcel gets here!!!) but obviously a terrible seller!!!

ShesNotACowShesAFox · 03/01/2025 21:04

This is a really common scam on Vinted. I only ever pay £4 tops for items now as it’s become so bad.

This.

Vinted should sort it but just let it be a lesson.

autumngirl714 · 03/01/2025 21:19

Ahhh do you think? I'm not holding my breath at all for it. I don't even want it now. I have bought son something else. I don't even know why the seller would send it when I cancelled the order.
I've had rotten luck on Vinted recently, this is just the cherry on the top of the cake!

OP posts:
TheHeadOfTheHouse · 03/01/2025 21:27

It could be that he had a few of these what you bought but Vinted won’t let you list the same item multiple times. You have to wait until one listing sells then re upload the same item again if you have multiples of the stuff to sell. He could then have been waiting until both listings sell before he sent the items.

ABunchOfBadBitches · 03/01/2025 22:30

This is what’s rubbish about Vinted.

If you try to cancel an order (for whatever reason) but the seller has already created the label. They have to confirm with the seller that they haven’t already shipped the item. Which is ridiculous in a situation like this.

It may not be that they were scamming you, rather they were taking the piss and taking their time with getting the item out to you. I would probably leave a bad review
