Every year this thread comes out. :)

I worked in retail as a student, nearly 30 years ago and my last job before the store (Tesco) shut on Christmas eve was to put out the mini eggs.

Nothing new.

Hope M&S do some of their savoury HXBs this year. Cheese, Onion and Tomato were amazing.

Plus got other sweet ones without dried fruit as some people don't like that.

The apple ones are lovely too.

Judellie · 02/01/2025 17:20

Tesco had half an aisle full of discounted mince pies (62p a box) and were setting out the Easter eggs on the other half.
No nice Christmas stuff like chocolate Yule logs were left. Hardly anyone i know likes mince pies.

Lanzarotelady · 02/01/2025 17:20

So, you're surprised because of this why? Do you live such a sheltered life that you don't realise this happens every year?

Happyinarcon · 02/01/2025 17:21

It’s a shame the shops have started acting so crazy. They are supposed to cater for the seasonal events, not contort the events to fit into their marketing schedule. I just don’t buy things out of season and it seems nobody else does either judging by the shops I have been to

fairytailcat · 02/01/2025 17:21

Obviously. It's the same every year

I love Easter eggs - I swear the chocolate tastes better egg-shaped 🤣. Always used to grab a few when they were reduced after Easter.

Now it's three months of various offers and none available after Easter - it doesn't feel the same somehow.

My DH has always said Easter egg chocolate taste so much nicer. I always buy the 3 for 2 for him, he is 70.😆

They wouldn't waste shelf space on things that aren't selling.

We haven't really got started on the Christmas chocolate yet!!

Wtf? Why didn't you eat it Xmas day morning?! 🤣

I find it so upsetting! It wasn't until 2020 after Covid they stopped having them left over to get a bargain.

BashfulClam · 02/01/2025 17:32

They were in the shelves on Boxing Day here.

marshmallowfinder · 02/01/2025 17:32

Why the surprise? It happens every year.

RatRatPig · 02/01/2025 17:32

I just saw someone eating a hot cross bun 😲

JohnTheRevelator · 02/01/2025 17:34

I saw some in a Tesco Express on the 27th December!

So what? It’s been like this for absolute years now.

OurDreamLife · 02/01/2025 17:36

B&M had Easter stuff out mid December.

One seasonal aisle in most supermarkets. So I really couldn’t care less.

NewYearNewDietAgain · 02/01/2025 17:37

I've worked in retail for 20 years. Easter stuff has always been in the warehouse the week before Christmas, and in the shelves Boxing Day. And people will buy them!

thesnailandthewhale · 02/01/2025 17:40

When I was a teenager I had a Saturday job in a newsagent. Christmas Eve was always my favourite time as that's when we put the mini eggs out. This was 1987, it's nothing new!

SnowyIcySnow · 02/01/2025 17:46

10 years ago i lived in a country that a) didn't do proper chocolate (I called it hot weather chocolate - it didn't melt properly) and b) didn't do Easter.

It filled me with great joy to stuff Easter eggs (mini eggs and creme eggs, rather than hollow ones) into my suitcase at Christmas, fly them home, and hide them for 3 months before wowing the kids.

Honestly the people complaining about Easter Eggs are the same ones that say “I can’t believe how dark is it” every year when the clocks go back.

Berlinlover · 02/01/2025 18:31

Easter isn’t until 20 April this year so it does seem a bit early.

My relative works in a supermarket, I mentioned the eggs being out on sale on Christmas eve and they said they've been out the back waiting to go out since November

Edited

Nov 2023, I was sorting out the totes of the small cases into aisles - think lip balm, stock cubes, cake decorations etc. Found the Crème Eggs. Shouted FFS. Before you ask, I was in the warehouse!

Manager said he has never seen Crème Eggs in November- even with 32 years of retail experience

Mountainhowl · 02/01/2025 18:57

This doesn't bother me too much, but what does annoy me is that shops seem to clear out all the seasonal stuff a week or so before the event

I went into b&m a week before Halloween to get costumes for the kids and they had completely disappeared, and in their place was Christmas stuff, I had been waiting for payday!
