Sigh, I so wish we could all just live in the moment and enjoy the now, but with marketing and everything it feels we are forced to always be looking ahead!

Don't think we've got them year round here, just whatever's left over the few weeks immediately after Easter. These were definitely new supplies though, box loads of them. Not a fan myself, though i used to love mini eggs as a kids - not sure if it's my tastes that have changed or the recipe!

The chocolate has definitely changed. It's not Dairy Milk. When Cadbury's was taken over, the new company swore they wouldn't change the recipe. There was an outcry over the change in Creme Egg chocolate, but the argument was that Creme Eggs had never been specifically advertised as made to the Dairy Milk recipe and that no chocolate produced at the factory that had historically been produced AND marketed as Dairy Milk had changed. I think they changed quite a few items to a cheaper recipe using that argument.

Flavabobble · 02/01/2025 16:14

I've not worked in a supermarket for nearly 5 years, but they were always in the back on Christmas eve waiting to go out. This is nothing new

Nothatgingerpirate · 02/01/2025 16:16

No way!

Murfmeister · 02/01/2025 16:16

They were in my local Morrisons yesterday. On the same aisle as the reduced Christmas chocolate...
Come to think of it - my aunt bought my husband a penguin Easter egg for Christmas this year (2024)!!! (He likes penguins - she didn't just buy him a random shit present 😁)

DorianMeile · 02/01/2025 16:33

Saw some in one stop before christmas!

I love Easter eggs - I swear the chocolate tastes better egg-shaped 🤣. Always used to grab a few when they were reduced after Easter.

Now it's three months of various offers and none available after Easter - it doesn't feel the same somehow.

Edited

It does taste better egg shaped! 😆
I used to feel annoyed as it felt like they were trying to rush time and celebrate things too early, always onto the next event.. But there's nothing I can do about it except block it out as I walk past.

That sounds about right, they just taste of sugar now.

That is wild!

Tesco and m&s both sell hot cross buns all year round definitely, they're DS's favourite weekend breakfast.

tilypu · 02/01/2025 16:41

Last year I saw Easter Eggs in-store on Christmas Eve.

The need to fill the shelves somehow - and people buy them, so they stock them...

Auburngal · 02/01/2025 16:44

It makes no sense to put them out early as this year, its the 3rd possible latest date for Easter Sunday to fall on, 20th April.

Every year, supermarkets and other retailers seem to sell out of the cheaper eggs by Wednesday before Easter, leaving the expensive ones left such as the £10+ Lindor, Ferrero Rocher plus the large Lindt bunnies.

Boomer55 · 02/01/2025 16:45

I just refuse to get involved with this nonsense from shops🤷‍♀️.

Hope M&S do some of their savoury HXBs this year. Cheese, Onion and Tomato were amazing.

Plus got other sweet ones without dried fruit as some people don't like that.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 02/01/2025 16:51

They're always out boxing day

I am with you on the taste. No idea why that is. I went through a period of 'just get a chocolate bar, it's cheaper' but it isn't the same. Psychological, probably.

It’s better quality chocolate, and properly tempered so it can hold the egg shape while not being too thick.

I bloody love Easter egg chocolate 😀

For similar reasons, if anyone is missing old recipe Cadbury’s when Easter eggs are not available, try the “little bars”. They are thinner, and therefore need to be properly tempered without additives like palm oil.

Creme eggs seem to be year-round now. Our local shop always stocks them. Ditto mini-eggs.

Ooh you’re lucky. Round me they vanish after Easter and I have to wait months before they reappear in January. Can’t wait to find them in the shops again soon!

Needmorelego · 02/01/2025 16:56

Supermarkets have a designated "seasonal" aisle.
Christmas is done now so the new year starts.
Valentine's is first but the merch doesn't usually take up a whole aisle so they put some Easter stuff there too.
Once valentine stuff is gone the Mother's Day stock comes in to the empty space. If you live in an area that celebrates St Patrick's Day you might get a bay or cardboard stand of St P decorations. Once those have gone the Easter stuff spreads out and starts to be is accompanied by gardening stuff. Once Easter is done there's Father's Day and then it's heading into summer you get the BBQ/picnic things, outdoor toys, garden chairs etc. Then July/August it's Back to School. Then Halloween. Then Christmas.
Add in for regional variations like Chinese new year, Diwali or Eid.
The seasonal aisle is a constant changing aisle.
You know what though......you can just ignore it and not buy a single thing 😂

Bogginsthe3rd · 02/01/2025 16:59

Have already stocked up on Easter Eggs for friends and family as saw a good deal when out shopping. It's just nice knowing that Easter is already "sorted". Next week I will start to plan the Easter egg hunt round the village for DCs and create the clues on "distressed" parchment. Would personally hate to leave it till the last moment and have to settle for the tacky eggs left.

ObliviousCoalmine · 02/01/2025 17:04

I'm sure I've read this very same thread every year. How are people consistently shocked by this?

If we can buy strawberries in January, why not Easter eggs.

lovelydayIhave · 02/01/2025 17:06

Doesn't shock me in the slightest- everything is just commercial holidays nowadays.
Our HomeBargains had Xmas stuff at the end of August.🙈

WhatIDoIsEnough · 02/01/2025 17:08

This is generally because store floor plans have a seasonal aisle . That's the next big thing

LittleBitAlexisLaLaLaLaLa · 02/01/2025 17:09

Shops have stocked Easter eggs this early in the year for a good few years now. Christmas stock is routinely introduced from August. If it’s any consolation shop staff aren’t thrilled about it either. Partly because customers will complain to us about it being too early.

HPandthelastwish · 02/01/2025 17:10

My relative works in a supermarket, I mentioned the eggs being out on sale on Christmas eve and they said they've been out the back waiting to go out since November
