Disappointed in GHD hair straighteners

I recently bought some GHD hair straighteners. I assumed they'd be loads better than my 15 year old £15 ones but they're really not. No difference in how my hair looks, no better. I'm really disappointed and feel I've wasted so much money. Is it just me?

Yep the best ones are Remington from Boots £21 in the sale.

GHDs are terrible since the company was sold.

Cloud 9 are by the founders and are as good as the old GHDs.

TidyDancer · 01/01/2025 19:15

Cloud 9 are very good, better than GHD (I've had the original GHDs and the newer ones). Just invested in an Airstrait which is the best of them all but obviously comes with the matching price tag. If it was a choice between GHD and C9 I would definitely go with the latter.

doneandone · 01/01/2025 19:16

Yep. I had a pair that lasted 15 years and thought they were great, when I replaced them, I was completely underwhelmed by them. Not worth the price tag, wish I had gone with cloud 9s

magicalmrmistoffelees · 01/01/2025 19:17

I’ve had my GHDs for 16 years and they’re still going strong if it’s any consolation!

FestiveFruitloop · 01/01/2025 19:20

Sounds like they've gone downhill, that's a shame. I have two sets purchased 10+ years ago and they've been a dream, and are still going strong.

BurntBroccoli · 01/01/2025 19:21

I've had my GHDs for 15 years and use them pretty much every day. They replaced another pair of GHDs that were also really old but still work (kept for emergencies!).

VandalsTookTheHandlez · 01/01/2025 19:22

I replaced my GHDs with steam pods and never looked back. So much kinder to my hair as well.

prrrmeow · 01/01/2025 19:25

Yes I had no idea until I bought a pair to replace my old ones. Googled it and found out the company sold out and now they are cheap Chinese rubbish or something like that.

bakewellbride · 01/01/2025 19:57

My ghds are still going strong even after 14 years of regular use. Might look elsewhere when the time comes after reading this thread

lovemyboyz247 · 01/01/2025 20:18

Definitely recommend cloud 9

MissTrip82 · 01/01/2025 20:23

I felt the same - I was given a set about five years ago and they’re fine but my cheap old Remington set was miles better and sadly I’d already thrown it away in anticipation!
