To think 3rd pregnancy has failed

Elle989898 · 01/01/2025 08:27

My two previous pregnancies both ended with a MMC being diagnosed at my routine 12 week scan. Both times I’d had a positive early scan at 8 weeks.

I’m now pregnant for the 3rd time. I’m 11 weeks and the NHS page for week 11 mentions ‘aches and pains around your bump’ and ‘as you start to bulge out a bit’. I’m slim (size 8) but not bulging out at all. Tummy is soft and I can’t feel my uterus. I did have nausea, hunger and food aversions but they’re quite weak now.

I’m so worried it’s gone wrong again. Am I being neurotic? Or is the fact my symptoms don’t line up with what the NHS page mentions concerning? My scan isn’t for another week.

No one can tell you I'm afraid.
It's nature to worry.
Everyone is different, feeling a bulge etc depends on your stomach muscles & position of the baby & other things.

Just try and stay calm and look after yourself until your scan

Imisscoffee2021 · 01/01/2025 08:30

Sorry youve had such a time of it so far op. It's hard to know as everyone carries so differently. Could you get a private scan for reassurance so you aren't stressing alot this week? They're between £50 and £100 depending on where you go but it might bring peace of mind especially with what you've already been through previously.

Pandasnacks · 01/01/2025 08:31

It’s really common not to bulge out yet, and the uterus is still really low. Nobody can no either way but you aren’t being neurotic, you’ve had horrible experiences. Fingers crossed for you OP

MaroonyBalloony · 01/01/2025 08:35

There's really no knowing but I remember googling a lot at 12 weeks as all of my symptoms disappeared almost overnight, apparently this can just happen as hormones stabilize, not uncommon at all.
I also didn't have a bulge or anything you could feel from the outside until 16 weeks.
Is your 12 week scan soon? If it's really causing stress I'd go for a private scan, but if it's soon just hang in there. Best of luck!

MaroonyBalloony · 01/01/2025 08:36

Sorry missed that your scan is next week. I know it's scary but there's no reason to think anything has gone wrong, totally understand why you feel that way though. It's a tough experience.

Rosieposy89 · 01/01/2025 08:38

Sorry for your losses. It could go either way. I wouldn't pay attention to NHS site - each pregnancy is different. I was just bloated until 16 weeks.

gettingolderbutcooler · 01/01/2025 08:39

I had twins and wasn't showing at 11 weeks- nor getting any of those symptoms! Tiredness was wearing off too.
So you cannot tell. Try not to analyse every twinge (or lack of!) although I know that's easier said than done.
Lots and lots of good wishes to you xx

OliveLeader · 01/01/2025 08:39

Symptoms can be so variable - they already aren’t any indication on their own of what’s going on. They can come and go, and there is a huge range in what is normal. Nothing you say is a reason to worry - though I do appreciate how easy that is to say, and how normal it is to be worried ❤️

I really hope all goes well at your scan.

fungibletoken · 01/01/2025 08:41

I am so sorry for your losses. We recently had an MMC at the 12 week scan and it was like a sucker punch. To have gone through that twice must be so hard.

As others have said, it is so difficult to tell how things are going based on symptoms as they vary so much from person to person/pregnancy to pregnancy. I've had one successful pregnancy and a lot of the time the official descriptions never resonated that much with me. Like you I don't think I had a bump at that point and certainly didn't have any pains in it. Also, it's quite normal for nausea and food aversions to tail off as the placenta takes over at some point between week 8 and 12.

Wishing you all the very best, OP 💐

Thanks all, it’s encouraging to hear some of you didn’t have a bulge etc until into the 2nd trimester. Thanks for responding x

So sorry to hear about your losses. I’ve had three miscarriages, two in between my second and third full term pregnancies. I was expecting to hear bad news with my 12 week scan with my third as was very similar, little symptoms and obviously losses at the forefront of my mind. I never had a bump though, with my first and second I rarely looked more than 6 months gone by full term (and I was slim with my first!), my third was so far back I had an emergency scan at 8 months because the midwife was genuinely wondering where he’d disappeared to - and he came out a month later 8 pounds and 13 ounces. Didn’t show at all until third trimester, it happens to some women. Hoping for the very best for you going forward.

stichguru · 01/01/2025 18:00

Sorry that you have been through so much OP. I'm a bit bigger than you (was size 10 before pregnancy 12 years ago, now size 12) and I didn't have any of those things by 12 weeks. Obviously that doesn't mean you aren't miss-carrying again, but I don't think that lack of those things has to mean you are. Best wishes.

DarkForces · 01/01/2025 18:02

In my only successful pregnancy I had no significant symptoms and bled throughout. She's 13 now!

Yanbu at all. I was terrified the whole time id lose her. It's traumatic

WeeOrcadian · 01/01/2025 18:12

I'm definitely larger than you and didn't 'bulge' anywhere until nearer 20 weeks, even with my second

Good luck OP ❤️

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 01/01/2025 18:17

Sorry about your losses, OP.

I had recurrent losses and then two successful pregnancies. In my successful pregnancies I really had no inkling whether everything was OK between scans until well into the second trimester. In my first successful pregnancy I noticed a bulge in my lower abdomen when I was lying down at about 15 or 16 weeks, nothing before then. And then movement at 18 weeks. Before then it was just a case of waiting impatiently for the next scan.

OrangeSlices998 · 01/01/2025 18:17

I’m much bigger than you and didn’t show in any pregnancy before 14/16 weeks, the uterus is unlikely to be palpable at this gestation as it’s still in your pelvis. Is a private scan an option? It may provide you some reassurance

LittleBalletBum · 01/01/2025 18:22

I have had many miscarriages, the first which were found at my 1/ week scan also. the pregnancy which actually worked out was the one where I had hardly any sickness, I had convinced myself it was all going wrong! You never know. Sending good vibes and lots of luck 💖

I didn’t really have a bump until my 3rd trimester with my first. I’d post a pic but it’s very outing.

at 11 weeks your uterus is still very much still in your pelvis, and bump is likely bloating.

i wouldn’t borrow worry, very easy for me to say I know especially given your loss history.

if you can, maybe book in for a private scan for some reassurance.

wishing you well xx
