To cancel NYE plans?

Myself and friend have had a tough year (for different reasons) so booked tickets to go out in nearest city for NYE. I have been floored by a chesty cough and other cold/flu symptoms since yesterday. Haven't been able to even go to the shops today. I don't want to make her & family ill but equally don't want to leave her alone on NYE that she was dreading. AIBU to cancel plans and stay home?

If you feel that rotten then you wouldn’t go. If you’re not sure then you might feel better after a night’s sleep. See how you feel tomorrow but maybe let her know tonight you don’t feel great.

Sorry you’re feeling ill.. being poorly plus the burden of worrying about your friend is undoubtedly stressful. If I were you, I’d give her a call and explain how crap you feel but tell her you’d still love to see her if she wants to pop over to yours with some fizz so she’s not alone.. that way you can stay in your pjs and have the lemsips to hand all evening.. and she’ll see that you aren’t well rather than just making excuses. If she’s happy to join you she won’t be worrying about catching the lurgy.. but she may be able to make other plans.. let her know now though so she has a choice. Hope you feel better soon

I would be annoyed if my mate let me down for NYE and it was just the two of us going .
once you have a drink you will feel better .

This is a shit and selfish attitude to have when it’s because they are unwell.

If you’re ill you’re ill. It can’t be helped. If you feel too unwell to go out tomorrow morning then let her know. I doubt she wants your illness either.

In your opinion it is - but not in my opinion . We all have different views and that is why people post on here . You can’t expect everyone to think the same way as you do.

What about a zoom meet for New Year's à la 2020? That way you could both still have fun without the risk. Hope you feel better soon.

Lots of things getting cancelled due to the storms due tomorrow….so you be best staying home anyway

Endofyear · 30/12/2024 22:40

Of course you should stay home if you're unwell. If she's a good friend, she'll understand even if she's disappointed. I don't get the whole big thing about NYE anyway, it's just one night like any other. Everywhere is crowded and expensive, I'd much rather stay home! Promise her a good night out when you're well again 😌
