DP didn't make me dinner...

I bought the ingredients to make a meat Bolognese for us all. I am a vegetarian, so we normally make the sauce, then add the meat after, and this way we all enjoy the meal.

My partner has decided to mix it all in, and now I have no dinner!!! Of course he knows I don't eat meat, and said he thought I had said I was going to make something different.... Like what!? Wtf

I'm hungry and maybe forced to eat meat!

What would you do?

stairgates · 30/12/2024 17:54

I would order a nice chinese and enjoy

Kangarude · 30/12/2024 17:54

If I was vegetarian there is no way that I’d casually decide to eat meat
Can you put some cheese on the pasta instead?

Scutterbug · 30/12/2024 17:54

Any pesto in the house? Cheese and pesto pasta would be my solution.

inkyfingers · 30/12/2024 17:55

Surely there is lots in the fridge after Christmas? I’d be eating all the cheese

janfebmar87 · 30/12/2024 17:55

Sounds like an honest mistake. Surely is something in the house you can eat

Therealjudgejudy · 30/12/2024 17:55

Get yourself a takeaway!

saveforthat · 30/12/2024 17:56

Well you will have to eat something else or if you have nothing else in order a takeaway.

HackGrey · 30/12/2024 17:56

Take away with his money.

Men are such fucking twats, every day there's a new example.

Ontherocksthisyear · 30/12/2024 17:57

As a grown-up adult, I'm sure you'll figure it out

IKnowAristotle · 30/12/2024 17:58

Just have a sandwich or some beans on toast.

Hopefully this isn't another one of those drip feed posts where the OPs husband is a psycho abuser.

Hannahandlucy · 30/12/2024 17:58

This is such a non issue. Either make yourself something else or use it as an excuse to get a yummy takeaway all to yourself!

cartagenagina · 30/12/2024 17:58

Well obviously you don’t have to eat meat. Egg and chips?

HunterHearstHelmsley · 30/12/2024 17:59

You're not being forced to eat meat. Yes, he's a div but only you know if he's a deliberate or accidental div. Would there be reason to think you were planning on having something else?

As others have said, add something else to the pasta or order something in.. Probably his favourite takeaway.

SandwichPlease · 30/12/2024 17:59

Yeah I’d be getting takeaway for one, no way I’d be eating meat, but who pays for food costs? Do you split it?

fuckingidiotseverywhere · 30/12/2024 18:00

Why would you be "forced" to eat meat? Seems a tad melodramatic. You're not marooned on a desert island with only the spag bol available, surely? Yes it was thoughtless of your DP, but I'm sure you can find something else to eat whether you order it in or raid the cupboards / freezer?

Pineapplewaves · 30/12/2024 18:01

Is it just you and your DP? Did he think you were both making your own dinner tonight? Would he normally make you something else while he is making himself a meat dish?

It's hard to tell whether your DP was just being selfish and thinking of himself or whether he made a genuine mistake in thinking you'd be getting your own?

Can your DP make you something else? Can you make yourself something else?

If you want to make a point, order a takeaway and eat it in front of him!

TTPDTS · 30/12/2024 18:03

Thoughtless! But not forced to eat meat surely, do you not have a single other thing in the house?

Also that sounds like the strangest way of making bolognese, how does the flavour all meld together if you just pop mince in at the end? spectacularly misses the point

MissMoneyFairy · 30/12/2024 18:04

Bit of a drama, isn't there something else you could eat, pasta with cheese is nice

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 30/12/2024 18:05

@Whatinthedoopla I would take your portion and give it to the dog!! dog deserves it more than hubby. he was most likely planning this and did it deliberately!!

Jonnycakes · 30/12/2024 18:11

I can’t see how you’re ‘forced’ to eat meat? Just make yourself something else. If it’s a one off I couldn’t even be bothered getting worked up about it to be honest. I’m veggie and if DH did something like this then he’d offer to sort me something else but there’s always something I can muster up without drama.

bananaboats · 30/12/2024 18:14

Seems like a total non issue. Surely just have something else!

Georgyporky · 30/12/2024 18:17

Without the essential meat it's just a veg sauce that doesn't take long to cook, so get him to rustle up another one - 20-30 minutes is my guess.

crumblingschools · 30/12/2024 18:21

@TTPDTS I was wondering how you can just add meat at the end of the cooking process, cooking mince is at the start of the process

devilspawn · 30/12/2024 18:29

In my house he'd be cooking me another meal I could eat.

In your situation you should just buy quorn mince in future and remind him of this time if he complains.

Engineweld · 30/12/2024 18:29

stairgates · 30/12/2024 17:54

I would order a nice chinese and enjoy

Me too ..
