I cannot believe that this lad is going to spend a year in prison- yes, I know that’s the law there, he should have known better etc, etc
I hope that the girl’s mother is ashamed of her actions.
I don’t want to think what the impact will be on Marcus 😥

I hope he survives the sentence. A prison in Dubai is a very dangerous place for a young black man.

Poor lad. Lots of smug, nasty people on here. No Dubai probably isn’t the best place to visit. I, for one, would never take my teenage sons there. Especially now. Do we all thoroughly research all the laws of every country we visit? Was it up to him to research this or his family? Either way I have nothing but sympathy for him.

I definitely agree there needs to be more publicity about what you can get thrown in jail for in Dubai. I would love their tourist industry to take a hit.

Yep all these smug self righteous people who the minute the clock turned midnight on their 18th birthday became fine upstanding mature adults who never made a mistake, never made a daft spur of the moment decision, always fully researched the entire legal framework of every country they holidayed and never once let their heart rule their head.

Oh to be so perfect and without sin at such a tender age eh

NewGreenDuck · 30/12/2024 15:30

TizerorFizz · 30/12/2024 15:28

@ohdelay The DD broke the law too!

Everyone is forgetting she was 17. That’s also under age. The mother waited until her DD was 18 before saying anything, I understand. She’s a piece of work!

Again. She broke no law, she is the victim according to their laws, being under the age of consent. He broke the law because he was over 18
I do wonder why people don't understand what their law says.

I mean having sex in a foreign country that’s known to have some wild laws is a risky business. Married not married. Ages of consent.

NewGreenDuck · 30/12/2024 15:31

And it wasn't his heart that ruled his head. He saw the chance of sex and took it.

This thread is fucking horrible. A young working class British man made a mistake on holiday and the no doubt well educated middle class MN posters here think he deserves a year in prison. Does he fuck. I wonder how many of you defending Dubai are saving yourselves a lot of tax by working their system? Morals and empathy soon go up in a cloud of smoke when you are tainted by the oil money eh? Think what you are defending for a moment? You are defending a young man for having consensual sex with a willing partner on holiday. Have none of you ever got carried away? made a teenage mistake?
The casual and callous cruelty shown on this thread makes me think very hard about how my black children would be treated if they made a mistake which hurt no one.

I know. Falling over themselves in on here to be ‘right’. Without an ounce of empathy. I’m so upset and worried for him. I wonder if there’s anything that can be done. I think I’ve already signed a petition.

All those defending the laws of Dubai - it’s corrupt and racist. His crime was having a holiday romance and not researching the laws of the country. Does he really deserve what is going to happen to him over the next year?

x2boys · 30/12/2024 15:33

Lovelysummerdays · 30/12/2024 15:17

Whilst I feel for the young man, I do think actually harsher laws for sexual offences aren’t such a bad idea. Any grooming of a minor or images of child sex abuse or sex with a minor will be treated harshly there.

I do wonder if the girls from Rotherham etc had been automatically treated by police as victims instead of being considered “problematic” if it would of changed things for them.

First for all.we are not talking about the UK where the actions both parties would have been legal
And what I'm earth has, what happened,in Rotherham for to do with this case?
The girls,in Rotherham and other surrounding of were, systematically abused years, and, no one cared
This, young man had consensual sex with a,girl a,few, months, younger than him unfortunately because of her vindictive mother he's now serving a,prison sentence because it happened,on foreign soil where,it is,illegal

Oh wow, so convited criminals. Especially men who are convicted of a sex crime should be encouraged and vindicated for exacting revenge on those who report them. Nice!

You are so right. Torture is routine and endless prisoners die "choking on vomit" and other bullshit. This thread is chilling tbh. Poor family.

Very well said. Some people on here should be ashamed of themselves. Such nastiness. Must be lovely people in real life!

I’ve been told by someone I believe is well informed- if she’s Muslim she has broken the law.

dubai laws are very complicated and it can depend on your race religion which laws apply.

If the women outed is the right women they are Sikh.

Exactly Del >> " I would love their tourist industry to take a hit."

The problem is that all the people I know who holiday in the hellhole of Dubai, aren't very educated and won't know this has happened.

Not Muslim from the name. The mother’s name is all over twitter

My criticism is for both of them for going there on holiday to begin with.

I agree, people go there to drink and shop. It's too hot to go to a beach safely, the ulltimate in pointless holidays and air pollution.

Tigerr · 30/12/2024 15:41

The Mother who reported should be deeply ashamed. What a cruel thing to do. People should boycott Dubai. I bet more people would if this had been a white 18 year old!

Ah yes, those wonderful exemplary Mumsnetters would never make an impulsive decision and are fortunately here to enlighten us. These people would never stoop to taking care of a bladder emergency down a darkened alley. Instead, they proudly soak their trousers and wear them saturated as a badge of moral superiority.

Then wonder why everyone seems to be avoiding them.

LavenderFields7 · 30/12/2024 15:42

This is so strange for the mother to do. Is it in Dubai that a woman can be arrested if she is raped for “sex outside marriage” which is why it is difficult to report rape in Dubai?

Bloom15 · 30/12/2024 15:44

TwistedWonder · 30/12/2024 12:27

The mothers a vile vindictive cow who snooped through her daughters private messages, invented a violent forced rape report against him once they were safely back in the UK and won’t have a seconds remorse for what she’d done just he side her little princess dared to have sex.

Let’s be honest here, his biggest crime in the mothers eyes is that he’s guilty of being black.

Edited

Yep!

What a vindictive cow - no justification for her behaviour
