I cannot believe that this lad is going to spend a year in prison- yes, I know that’s the law there, he should have known better etc, etc
I hope that the girl’s mother is ashamed of her actions.
I don’t want to think what the impact will be on Marcus 😥

I’m sure if I clicked on the Daily Mail link and depending on the circumstances they are in there, I’d have some empathy for those people too. It’s possible to have empathy for many people!

Murderers and drug smugglers - I won’t be co wasting any tears

If posters called for that for the mother of the Southport stabber, there'd be outrage.
When the 13 year old, who stupidly got caught up in the riots, mother was in court, posters were calling for blood. This forum loves to create angels and demons, the demons are always women, usually lower working class.

Yes theres awful jails in many parts of the world, they don't all have TVs and mobiles.

Maybe save some tears for these who might never make it out alive:

Which of those 3 do you find more sympathetic than Marcus?

The drug smuggler or one of the murderers?

Delatron · 30/12/2024 19:45

Plastictrees · 30/12/2024 19:41

No need to save tears, compassion is not finite. For most people.

This is what I was trying to say. You put it more eloquently!

Considering Marcus will get a year at most and the drug smuggler gets the death penalty I feel more empathy for her.

Fundraiser details: google Marcus Fakana and Radha Stirling, her twitter has the fundraiser details.

Govts do and can bow to pressure so it’s heartening to see that so many people find his plight heartbreaking. This isn’t a great look for Dubai either.

Influencers go for the “easy” money. By being truest and horrendously violated sexually in exchange for bags of cash. Porta potties

MN got obsessed by those few, but it's a fashionable holiday destination that has nothing to do with being shat on.

theallotmentqueen · 30/12/2024 19:47

As a sexual assault victim, this kind of thing makes my blood boil. Why is it that people who commit heinous rapes get let off scott free, and then 2 people less than a year apart having consensual sex is convicted and criminalised?

The same thing happens in the UK. When minors sext each other, it's technically 'distributing child porn' and there have been convicted cases. I personally don't think minors should sext/sleep together r b/c I do think they're too young to have capacity to consent, but to criminalise it is just horrible. The justice system is spending its time convicting perfectly innocent cases bc they're easy to prosecute while rape kits moulder, or are tried so long after the fact that all evidence is gone.

Oh god. I didn’t click on the link. So I’m supposed to be saving my finite tears for these people over Marcus! What a strange argument from @icelolly12

There is no argument - just a series of obtuse statements and questions. Some people must have really boring lives.

I do think the international laws on drug smuggling are pretty clear. Not that I agree with her sentence but she will have known what she was doing and the risk it carries.

Marcus would not have had a clue.

Also internationally they need to have a big deterrent for drug smuggling hence the harsh sentences. Laws on consent are more varied across countries.

A lot of normal people go for the snazzy pictures but actual influencer types end up in scene. There are many horror stories shared where a night with a rich guy turns into 5 guys on a boat doing more than you’d ever imagine for those designer bags and a few k. Haunting.

Also the harms of drug smuggling are far greater - Marcus didn’t harm anyone by engaging in consensual sex.

Obtuse because I'm not crying fake tears over someone who broke the law and is getting a year in prison 😂There's far more severe miscarriages of justice for me to worry about thanks.

I'm wondering why so many posters are pretending they care so much. Hmm actually, I think I know. If you're that bothered go and do a protest, or are you too busy? Thought so

I don't.

I can well understand an 18 year boy, going on holiday, to not have the sense to check local laws re. age of consent when having a relationship with a girl from the same school year. It strikes me as a naive mistake.

Smuggling over a million pounds worth of cocaine, though? That's knowingly committing an incredibly serious crime.

I've been a bit more receptive of your POV on here than most have, but I think you've jumped the shark here.

Which severe miscarriages of justice do you care about?

You are pretending not to care, whilst refreshing the thread and replying to everyone within 5 seconds. Very odd incongruent behaviour.

You're the one constantly asking questions.

I think I'll leave it there, I've said my piece.

@icelolly12 Interesting - you never can answer my perfectly reasonable questions. Because you don’t have a sensible answer. I’m glad you’ve decided not to embarrass yourself by making more obtuse statements.

icelolly12 · 30/12/2024 20:03

Okay I'll bite @Plastictrees You really can't think of any more serious miscarriages of justice than this?! Educate yourself.

@icelolly12 …another obtuse statement. You’ve said you care about greater miscarriages of justice than this one. So - which one(s)?

I’m not pretending anything. I care about this because that could easily be one of my boys. It’s horrendous he has to suffer God knows what FOR A YEAR for no bloody reason at all. It’s called empathy, I know you seem to struggle with the concept.

As an aside I doubt very much you worry about any severe miscarriages of justice or indeed anyone or anything.

@icelolly12 that's a bizarre and unhelpful comparison. Drug smuggling is illegal everywhere and does vast harm. Consensual sex between young adults 10 weeks apart in age is legal in the UK and does no one any harm. What is your point here?
