I cannot believe that this lad is going to spend a year in prison- yes, I know that’s the law there, he should have known better etc, etc
I hope that the girl’s mother is ashamed of her actions.

There is a way to support Marcus via a fundraiser and to write to their MPs, no 10, foreign office, just make noise. I think him spending a year in a Dubai prison looks bad for our govt and theirs.

If we can keep his case talked about, that would be worth all the shite a couple of people have been spraying all over the thread

I think that's unfair. @icelolly12's posts have been quite balanced, and I say that as someone who has a lot of sympathy and fear for Marcus.

I fear for her daughter. Presumably she must live at home with her mother. How awful to have such a vile woman for a mother, but this is now all over the press with photos. Hopefully she is getting some support, I’m sure she will be feeling a sense of responsibility for what’s happened and it’s pretty traumatic.

Yes theres awful jails in many parts of the world, they don't all have TVs and mobiles.

How any mother can do that to a teenage child is beyond me. I hope her daughter walks away at the earliest opportunity. She is rotten to the core. I hope the poor lad gets through this ok, and comes home to the support of his family and all the decent people who’ve been following his story with enormous sadness and incredible anger.

So we’re supposed to have empathy for murders and drug smugglers but not an 18 year old who had a holiday romance.

If he and his family had shown some contrition or belatedly do so now then I think he might stand a chance of a pardon at Ramadan.

I’m sure if I clicked on the Daily Mail link and depending on the circumstances they are in there, I’d have some empathy for those people too. It’s possible to have empathy for many people!

My point is that this is happening every day. Maybe not British tourists, but people are being sent to these jails every single day often for crimes we in the West would consider minor. Why all the fuss over one person?
