I cannot believe that this lad is going to spend a year in prison- yes, I know that’s the law there, he should have known better etc, etc
I hope that the girl’s mother is ashamed of her actions.
I don’t want to think what the impact will be on Marcus 😥

The people sharing the name of the supposed girl clearly don’t care about her either.

It isn’t just the awful conditions he will face in prison as a black guy, if he survives 12 months not only will he be very damaged when he leaves, but he has served time for sex offences. That will effect all future employment, relationships, becoming a parent, having his childrens friends round for tea, going on holiday himself, he can also say goodbye to ever emigrating. It isn’t a case of ‘just’ serving 12 months, this will forever be part of his life and will hold him back forever.

Many of us can also comprehend countries are different to the UK.

What boggles many of our minds is why a mother would do this to another woman's son just for spite.

So yup one can be well traveled and still demonstrate empathy for this poor family

Why she did it doesn't really matter to the result though? The mother probably did it because she's a cow, but he still broke their law and was still in the country for them to prosecute.
We can have empathy for an 18 year old, but the squawking about that's not illegal, why isn't her daughter locked up, what is Lammy doing (like they're a colony and answer to us) etc are just stupidity.

UndermyShoeJoe · 30/12/2024 16:28

I think in some communities the mother will actually be praised for her actions. Her daughter will be shunned in many however.

Ihavenoclu · 30/12/2024 16:28

NewGreenDuck · 30/12/2024 16:23

He's not a child. Legally he's an adult. He believes that he is old enough to have sex with all that entails. And that includes considering that laws in other countries are different.
Just for the record and because I'm probably going to be asked. I didn't have sex until was an adult.

Would you have been of the same opinion if his name was William and he was about to head to Oxford?

nogginatemycat · 30/12/2024 16:22

You know troll hunting is against MN rules right?

Also Im not willing to comment on her mother as i do not know the facts and neither do you. What I do know is a fact Marcus broke the law and Dubai and is in prison because of this, that is an undisputable fact.

Sorry if you dont like the fact he broke the law and was punished. No matter who reported him or their intentions why the basic facts are you should respect the law, traditions and curtural diffrences if you choose to visit and they allow you to stay there. Its not hard to comprehend.

Edited

@nogginatemycat you make it sound as if Dubai were a charitable organisation who housed this lad, fed him, and took him on day trips for free! Using words like “allow”?!! Dubai get a shit ton of money from tourism. In fact, one of the reasons they’ve relaxed their laws is because they want us to come and visit their shitty little country! They’re not doing us any favours!

I don’t know how racism can be considered a good reason.

There is nothing to suggest any coercion - in fact it has been reported that the nature of messages and photos were two young lovers making plans for how they would see each other in the future when they both returned to their homes in London.

I can imagine the vile woman was horrified at the ‘shame’ that her daughter was going to be spending time in the local area and be seen in public with a working class black boy and she wanted to stop any chance of a relationship continuing

Ihavenoclu · 30/12/2024 16:28

I mean I can’t speak for that poster but I’m pretty much on a duck around find out kinda thing. If you break the law you deserve the punishment of the law.

Not being a national is no excuse unless your going to excuse all foreign criminals.

AliceMcK · 30/12/2024 16:29

It’s disgusting, that woman is a horrible human being, reporting him for spite. She knew full well what he did in both his and her daughter’s country of residence was legal so she spitefully reported him.

As the mother of 3 daughters I would never dream of reporting him. It was a consensual relationship between 2 adults, fair enough she was technically a child, but only by a matter of weeks. If I disapproved I’d be pulling my dd up, not condemning an 18yo to a prison sentence in a country that has a disgusting human rights record.

All you people saying he broke the law should be ashamed, he was on holiday with his family, something he never had before, no 18 year old ever understands the difference in laws especially when taken somewhere by their parents. I’ve traveled the world but it was only with age and knowledge that these things ever crossed my mind.

From everything I’ve read he is a lovely young man with a good life ahead of him, that has been fully taken away, fuck knows what this time in prison will do to him. I’d be very surprised if he comes out not severely damaged.

I really hoped that something stopped this madness.

I hope the young lady involved never speaks to her nasty evil mother ever again.

And I doubt the mother would have reacted in the same way either.

Lovely** how would she have lacked capacity? And surely that would need to be proven?

Something happens to your brain on your 18th birthday?

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 30/12/2024 15:59

I mean capacity in a legal sense. Under 18 = no capacity or no limited capacity over 18 = capacity.

In the UK we are more stringent about protecting children from financial entanglements than sexual ones. So an under 18 doesn’t legally have the capacity for some types of finance agreements. The bank doesn’t look at you and say well you’re nearly 18 so that’ll be alright then.

ClaireEclair · 30/12/2024 16:32

Disgusting outcome and that mother should be ashamed. I’m sure her daughter is also going through a difficult time. I hope this does not negatively impact his future.

So what are you saying? When going through customs and imigrations and they check your documentation to ensure you are legally ALLOWED though and to be there, this means they have allowed you to visit their country.

Im not sure what sort of arguent your trying to spin but it makes very little sense im afraid. 🙄

Why do people comment without knowing the facts.

Sex outside of marriage is legal for tourists.

That is not why he was imprisoned.

I didn't say it wasn't legal I said they don't like it.

It’s the way you’re talking, as if Dubai did him a big favour letting him visit. No they didn’t. They took his money and were happy about it.

SnappyGreyLemur · 30/12/2024 16:35

@PinkTonic I heard the interview with the representative from Detained in Dubai that said the girl would also be liable under Dubai law.

Crackers4cheese · 30/12/2024 16:35

TwistedWonder · 30/12/2024 12:27

The mothers a vile vindictive cow who snooped through her daughters private messages, invented a violent forced rape report against him once they were safely back in the UK and won’t have a seconds remorse for what she’d done just he side her little princess dared to have sex.

Let’s be honest here, his biggest crime in the mothers eyes is that he’s guilty of being black.

how do you know all this?

CouldntGiveAHoot · 30/12/2024 16:36

All the 'he broke the law so it's right he faces the punishment' talking bs, imo. The law is an ass.

We don't need to respect the law of any other country if we don't agree with the law so I am not going pretend I think it is 'fine' Dubai did this - any more than I think it is fine the Taliban has been bringing in laws to control and subjugate women.

Laws can - and often are - deeply immoral.

Im afraid every thing you posted is your opinion not fact. The fact is they allowed him to visit their country thats a fact. Sorry if facts are confusing to you.

user23124 · 30/12/2024 16:37

They are 10 weeks apart in age. 10 weeks.

PabloTheGreat · 30/12/2024 16:37

Any potential bride price or dowry is now scuppered i assume considering its recorded all over the press that the girl consented willingly How cruelly ironic if her freedom from an arranged marriage came at the cost of his. I hope she is being supported now she's 18 to leave her family's clutches.

Her mother finding the MAP in her bags suggests that she obtained them in the UK prior to travelling. I've zero interest in travelling to Dubai but I'm guessing a girl wouldn't be able to get it in a chemist there with the same ease as in the UK?

I'm genuinely worried for him in prison and I hope he will be OK and that authorities in the UK can intercede on his behalf.

NewGreenDuck · 30/12/2024 16:38

Ihavenoclu · 30/12/2024 16:33

Sure

I'm pointing out to people on this thread that no one can expect to holiday or live in a different country to their own without understanding that laws are different in other countries. It's the sheer ignorance that gets me. I'm actually amazed that people who comment here, either don't understand that, or seem to think that the female would have been prosecuted. We can't say if she would because that situation didn't arise. But the offence was sex with a minor.

Where was the interview, please? I'd like to listen to it.
