I cannot believe that this lad is going to spend a year in prison- yes, I know that’s the law there, he should have known better etc, etc
I hope that the girl’s mother is ashamed of her actions.
I don’t want to think what the impact will be on Marcus 😥

I mean capacity in a legal sense. Under 18 = no capacity or no limited capacity over 18 = capacity.

In the UK we are more stringent about protecting children from financial entanglements than sexual ones. So an under 18 doesn’t legally have the capacity for some types of finance agreements. The bank doesn’t look at you and say well you’re nearly 18 so that’ll be alright then.

Well not exactly between 16 and 18 in The UK is,a,tricky age as,whilst someone is,not an adult they are not a,child either and whilst the bank won't be giving them finance agreements in other aress, they can make decision,s,about their lives, irrespective of what their parents want.

Yep. Just another poster wanting to sound smug and clever. It beggars belief.

You’ve lived a very sheltered life if you think someone noting a discrepancy on Mumsnet “beggars belief”.

MumblesParty · 30/12/2024 16:41

nogginatemycat · 30/12/2024 16:36

Im afraid every thing you posted is your opinion not fact. The fact is they allowed him to visit their country thats a fact. Sorry if facts are confusing to you.

@nogginatemycat you have a strangely sycophantic respect for Dubai, so I think your opinions on this case should be taken in that context. Critical thinking seems to have eluded you in this situation.
You'll be pleased to learn that the racists posting on the GB News site agree with you, that this black man should be punished.

ffsgloria · 30/12/2024 16:41

This case has really upset me, the mother is vile. Absolutely disgusting way to treat another human being.

Not the noting of the discrepancy. The constant need to be right when we are discussing a boy whose life (if he survives) is now ruined.

I think you will find that every country in the world where you go through customs and imigration either allow you to stay or not its pretty universal. So again your opinion of my respect for Dubai is sadly mislead by your uncorrect opinion once again.
I have never stated if I respect Dubai or not in my posting on MN, I have only posted the facts as they are. Unfortunatly you seem unable to disappropriate stated facts from opinions.

You do make alot of unsubstanciated assumptions and claims, its seems a trait that follows your every reply.

Where was the interview, please? I'd like to listen to it.

It was on The World at One about 7 minutes in.

The mothers a vile vindictive cow who snooped through her daughters private messages, invented a violent forced rape report against him once they were safely back in the UK and won’t have a seconds remorse for what she’d done just he side her little princess dared to have sex.

Let’s be honest here, his biggest crime in the mothers eyes is that he’s guilty of being black.

How do you know the girls family aren't also black?

You are quite correct that the important thing here is this young lad and what’s happened to him.

They’re British Indian and Sikh - its been mentioned several times

nogginatemycat · 30/12/2024 16:22

You know troll hunting is against MN rules right?

Also Im not willing to comment on her mother as i do not know the facts and neither do you. What I do know is a fact Marcus broke the law and Dubai and is in prison because of this, that is an undisputable fact.

Sorry if you dont like the fact he broke the law and was punished. No matter who reported him or their intentions why the basic facts are you should respect the law, traditions and curtural diffrences if you choose to visit and they allow you to stay there. Its not hard to comprehend.

Edited

More indisputable facts from you? The case was a misdemeanour that was treated more seriously then it should’ve been. They didn’t even follow their own law. Do try harder

OK, maybe you don’t love Dubai. But I can’t think of any other reason why someone would be so vindictive. Maybe I’ve not met enough people in my life, to be able to recognise nastiness. I consider myself fortunate I suppose, to have avoided such toxicity in real life, but of course it does mean that sometimes MN shocks me.

Ponoka7 · 30/12/2024 16:50

I hope that this gets good publicity, everywhere, because younger people are wanting to go to the UE, because of influencers and now them controlling sport, people need to understand that they take their laws seriously. I'd also like to point to Thailand, who are enforcing the over 18 laws, luckily you can still buy yourself out of trouble there. But there's cases of tourists, especially young men, being set up.

So you claim "They didn’t even follow their own law."

Please cite the piece of law they have not followed and state why? if that is your claim, I think his family would love too know.

Let me redirect that question back to you if you want to play hypothetical situations.

Question for you, if you had friends a male (18) and female (14) from say Brazil or Colombia and they had sex in the UK would you report them to the UK authorities?

Would you condem them or defend them as its legal where they are from? 🤔

Edited

Personally I wouldn't report them, assuming it was consensual. Because in their country of origin it's legal.

Furthermore, I wouldn't know, unless they went around telling everyone.

Influencers go for the “easy” money. By being truest and horrendously violated sexually in exchange for bags of cash. Porta potties

Why do you need to be right all the time? You are coming across very badly. There’s a boy’s life at stake here and you’ve spent about 10 pages splitting hairs on the laws of Dubai. Shocking.

Auntywokery · 30/12/2024 17:10

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at some of the posts here. Two near-eighteen year olds have a holiday sexual encounter. In no civilised country would this even elicit comment. In a Muslim country whose population claims to revere their prophet, Muhammad, who, according to Aisha, the bride in question, married a bride aged six and consummated it when she was nine (scholars argue about this claim but many Muslims believe it to be true). The rulers of this primitive and corrupt country have the hypocrisy to throw a young man into prison for having sex with a consenting all-but eighteen year old girl because her rigid, narrow, heartless mother reported the affair to the authorities. I agree with@ User23124 about the dangers to black young men and pps who have criticised David Lammy for his inaction. Legalistic hairsplitting and Latin tags from Nogginatemycat don’t get us very far imo It’s nice to see @ Plastictrees on the side of the angels again.

I think people have utmost sympathy for that girl. I can’t imagine the shaming and interrogation she will have undergone before her spiteful, wicked mother (I’m assuming there’s also a father) decided to get her out of Dubai before making the malicious report

People are curious about such a person. It’s already out there on all social media platforms.
