is it just me or does anyone else hate the days inbetween xmas and new year and going into the new year. I feel like i end up a little depressed, like i have nothing to look forward to. Kids driving me mad, been round my OH to much so were bickering and i just feel out of routine.

Do anyone else feel like this?

Love this time …it’s finally time to relax after the intensive prep for Christmas and 3 days of Christmas hosting!

Nice long run this morning, chilling this afternoon! Eating leftovers so don’t have to think about food. Tomorrow sport in the morning then chilling again before getting ready for NYE and NYD hosting and events.

Currently sat baking by a pool in Gran Canaria, it doesn't feel like Xmas and it's great. I would recommend !

Ooh, is it properly warm?? Nice idea for next year!

stargirl1701 · 29/12/2024 14:43

Nope. They are my favourite part of the year.

Walk the dog all together
Play board games
Complete jigsaws
Watch TV
Eat leftovers
Read by the fireside with the tree twinkling
Listen to the radio
Bake
Eat in dining room every evening
Use our wedding dinner service every evening
Candlelight
Long baths with a magazine/book

I'm off from the 23rd Dec until the 7th Jan. Glorious!

Eddielizzard · 29/12/2024 14:44

Agree! I absolutely loathe it. Can't wait for holiday season to be over and get back to life.

sampquib · 29/12/2024 14:44

I always anticipate it's going to be lovely but then I find I'm unmotivated and waste the days

biscuitsandbooks · 29/12/2024 14:47

Sorry, it's one of my favourite times of year!

No expectations, no pressure - just lots of time to do whatever you fancy! I've spent the past few days on nice dog walks, eating good food, watching lots TV, sleeping in and just generally relaxing - I don't have kids though Grin

BondStreet · 29/12/2024 14:47

I think I quite like it but I do have to ensure we have some structure so I’ll plan to do something everyday such as:

  • long walk along the beach and a hot chocolate
  • bike ride/hike
  • baking
  • Crafts with DC
  • Bowling/cinema/museum

we don’t do well being indoors for long periods of time so we do try and get out for a few hours each day to blow away the cobwebs.

user87349287657 · 29/12/2024 14:48

Yes - awful, I’d move new year to day after Boxing Day and get it over with! 😀

This is the best bit. All the stress is over, I can relax. We have no plans. Currently have all candles lit, sitting by the tree watching a Christmas film. Snow due later this week, hope we are snowed in again (rural Scotland) and then this lovely down time can continue.

That's the spirit!
Only my husband and me, though. 😊

Im in the love it camp! We've got young kids (5&8) so theres lots of playing with their xmas toys/games, bike rides and things like crazy golf in the daytime but we generally go out quite a lot of an evening a mix of as a family, just adults and on our own with our own friends. I think its the freedom of being able to do what you want when you want that i like so much. I worked in retail for a long time so only ever has xmas day off so really appreciate the break now

BlackStrayCat · 29/12/2024 14:53

This is Christmas! Until DD goes back on the 7th, it is Christmas. I love this bit most.

Christmas ends 12th night. 6th Jan.

FiveWhatByFiveWhat · 29/12/2024 14:53

It's been nice for us to be fair!

We've been seeing family and friends, going to the park or garden centre, having nice food and relaxing.

Ds (5) is loving having us both home and playing with all his new bits (he's a mid December birthday)

I'm planning a big sort out next week in between trips out, being back at work etc.

Yes this!
Any chance of you becoming Prime Minister in the near future and making this a law @user87349287657 ?

You'd get my vote!

I would love it if I didn't have to work 😭

I've really enjoyed this weekend, being at home with my kids, reading, binging Netflix, having a good clean, playing board games, watching films.

I'm dreading going back to work tomorrow.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 29/12/2024 15:04

I love them! Lots of lovely leftovers to eat up, ditto chocolates! - no shopping, hardly any cooking, plenty of relaxation! And all the cheerful lights and decorations still up - unless of course you’re one of those weirdos who has to tear the tree down on Boxing Day in order ‘to have a good clean’. 😧

Gizlotsmum · 29/12/2024 15:05

I am really enjoying them this year, possibly because we have come away, it’s also been a long year so nice to have nothing too do but relax, walk the dog, read books and catch up with extended family

sanityisamyth · 29/12/2024 15:05

DS's birthday is between Christmas as new year so we always go to Center Parcs. It marks his birthday out as separate from Christmas and gives us a very different change of scenery.

i feel like one year i would love to go away maybe abroad or just somewhere here for a few days maybe around the 27th dec but its so expensive.

We did that one year, we got very cheap flights to Orlando for Boxing Day and had a wonderful week or so. It meant driving MIL back home on Christmas night, she was about 50 miles away, but she didn't mind one bit, enough leftovers for the next few days were also transported!

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 29/12/2024 15:13

We only got back from visiting PIL yesterday, having had a very busy Christmas eve then hosting lots of my family Christmas day, and then off to PIL boxing day. So today is blissfully peaceful. Tomorrow DH is at work and I have plans with a friend, their DC and DS , Tuesday I'm at work DH is off, both off NYD, I'm off Thursday DH is off Friday (school doesn't go back until next week so need to cover childcare).
If you have a long stretch with nothing planned, make plans. Go for a walk on the beach and a hot chocolate, see a film at the cinema, visit friends, there's loads of things you can do.

I need to fit in washing bedding and towels, ironing bedding and remaking beds before New Year visitors! On Thursday after they've gone and I do it all over again, I will start dismantling the decorations and putting what's left of the tree outside!

We have done a massive clearout this morning! When the Christmas Dec's come down, my house always feels bigger as we do usually do some pre and post Christmas decluttering.

Yes to getting on with clearing the clutter!

We did a massive clear out in our office on Boxing Day. Massive. Hardly recognise the place now. More clearing up to be done tomorrow. Having a rest today.

Vettrianofan · 29/12/2024 15:17

Stripped bedding in some of the bedrooms this morning, more to get done tomorrow morning...

liveforsummer · 29/12/2024 15:19

God no, watching the sound of music with a big plate of crackers and cheese and glass of Prosecco with no work tomorrow- heaven!

CoastalCalm · 29/12/2024 15:19

I love them , we were married on the 28th so would usually have a few days away in a cottage but this year I’m not too well so don’t bother just had a nice chilled day and DH cooked us my favourite beef Penang
