Dear other moms.

So went for a lovely meal to catch up with friends yesterday for the xmas.
Meal was lovely however the service was very bad.
There was an awful draught in the door asked could we be moved they said no as fully booked fair enough!
Waitress closed inner door which helped with that.
Anyways we ordered our food and drinks.
No one came to see how everything was at any point?
We had to get their attention a few times as they forgot to bring portion of chips.
Then my rose wine was gone off!!had to grt their attention again.
They gave me a different drink on the house.
That was fine then we had get their attention again for a dessert menu.

And yet again for more drinks and tea.
Yes came on good time.
My and 1 other friend had gin they took over 20 mins to come with these!!
Then says girls ye only have 10 mins now and we need table we were surprised as they let us order more drinks?
2 mins later another waiter says ye only have 5 mins now!!and thing card machine for us to pay!
One of the girls is regular there she was shocked at this!!

We paid Bill and left and had one more drink at a bar nearly.
We went back to complain and girl made out they didn't mean to Insult us!I understand that maybe only have table for 2 hours but why let us order more drinks and basically ask us to leave??

Are we been unreasonable here?

Busy mom of 3

It sounds OK to me: not perfect but they reacted well to issues (closed inner door, free drink etc). Does Rosé wine go off?

Heelworkhero · 30/12/2024 00:11

Sounds like the service wasn’t great, but I’d just move on.

No kids.
Busy also, but mainly with a variety of hobbies that I enjoy which take up a lot of time.
I have a mum.

purplecorkheart · 30/12/2024 00:13

Honestly, two hours for a table is pretty standard now.

The service was not great but most places are now massively understaffed and staffed with mainly staff with little or no experience.

Letting you order drinks ten minutes before you needed to vacant the table. Sorry but you are adults, it is not up to them to Police your drinking.

@hospitalitysux yes I totally understand that and they were definitely understaffed and I'm a very understanding person myself I work in customer care dealing with ppl all the time!
So I do totally get that and that the public can be very demanding.
But what bothered us the most was that wee were allowed order more drinks has wait 20 mins for the then to be told ye only have 10 mins left to be told 3 mins later to be told only have 5, mins was like we were been pushed out !! just thought it was rude.

I'm agreeing with the others that you probably were drunk.

You're seeking attention and using this as a reason, it's not the end of the world, service wasn't ideal, it's mildly annoying at best. No one has been irretrievably damaged by the situation, you haven't suffered any trauma. This is half the issue with any customer service, the reactions to small things, the drama created around anything that's slightly imperfect is so over the top. Service is never going to be 100% perfect, 100% of the time because humans are going to human, make mistakes and get things wrong, it's mostly accepted that this will happen, except if you're in a service job, when it's then perceived as a personal attack and a deliberate act of sabotage - you're just not that important.

It's standard in hospitality now for the reasons I outlined in my pp. Is it the service I want to give? No, it's not. But it's an entirely predictable result from the way society and businesses treat any type of service workers now, it's not just hospitality.

Hospitality is struggling far more for people to provide the service than to use it, and creating ridiculous dramas around minor issues, well that just drives people out of the jobs even more. A couple of places close to me are on restricted hours and days and one closed all together - not because they were struggling for customers but struggling for staff.

Society has the service it's cultivated with it's attitude and behaviour towards those delivering it.

So we ordered drinks and within 5 mins waitress said ye have to be gone in the next 10 mins.
There was no way I could drink my drink back and then 3 mins after her the waiter came and said 5 mins is all we have and he hard the card machine with him very bad service I must say

But at that point they were telling you about how long you had to drink then and you could have cancelled your final drinks or moved to the bar which you did.

You were there for two hours. Everything about your story is normal.

Ummm no not unless you only have 10 minutes to drink it.

Used to have a fish.

All sounds standard for a restaurant at its busiest time of year. 🤷‍♀️
(Not a mom)

Honestly how can you possibly comment or give your experience not being a mom?

Only busy parents eat at restaurants! 😂

Itisjustmyopinion · 30/12/2024 01:53

Of course they are going to let you order they want more money from you

They expect you to know when your sitting is finishing as it would have been mentioned at time of booking usually, and if you order with 10 mins to go they will assume you will drink up in time for you to leave

Your blame, if it’s actually deserving of any blame which I don’t think it is, should be with whoever in your group made the booking and didn’t clarify when the table was booked until

Beautifulbouquet · 30/12/2024 03:23

I think it's fine except for repeatedly referring to you as Ye.

Was it a medieval themed restaurant?

I assumed this restaurant was staffed by pirates.

getahhtmapub · 30/12/2024 04:57

None of this is a big deal. Possible exception of the forgotten chips and the long time for the drinks.. neither of which would make me return to complain.
'Off' rose is not only unlikely the restaurant cannot really know if it's a dud bottle and it was rectified so non story there.
Draughty door was fixed so non story again. Chasing for a dessert menu in a busy restaurant is fairly standard.
Are you really that needy that you need to be 'asked after' once you are eating? It's a meaningless platitude.

2 hour table again normal and whomever booked it would have been told. When you ordered your drinks they probably assumed you knew you had mere minutes left. This bit sounds like user error.

So ultimately some forgotten chips and drinks took ages in a busy restaurant. I couldnt get worked up about any of these things.

Truetoself · 30/12/2024 05:24

Standard for a greedy restaurant. If they want a quick turnaround of tables they should have a quicker service. However, the ordering last minute dribks is on you as staff can't judge how quickly you drink

Busymomof3 · 30/12/2024 08:53

No I actually hardly drink at all had 2 drinks so that wasn't the issue definitely wasn't drunk!
