You're seriously comparing those two things? 🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣

Eh no, reread my words. I’m saying the opposite 😵‍💫

Snapncrackle · 29/12/2024 10:35

You can still take it to maintain it even when you hit goal weight

my friend is doing this and she injects maybe once a month every / 6 weeks or so and her weights been stable for 8 months now and she lost 5 stone initially

Blabadder · 29/12/2024 10:36

i’m about to start. Similar to you and I could give a stuff what people think about it. I just won’t be telling anyone as it’s my personal health info … it’s still not going to be easy. They only work well with complete commitment and lifestyle changes, can have really awful side affects and are long term - at least a year or more - with the risk of regaining weight once tapering off if you haven’t made all the changes needed.
Not for the faint hearted but if you have other health conditions, it’s worth a try.

Melodyfair · 29/12/2024 10:37

I TRIED, I REALLY TRIED HONESTLY! But I just couldn’t scroll on by, why OP, why! Did you know exactly what you were doing starting this thread? Two pages in and the bitter war of words has begun, these threads just descend into absolute chaos, it’s like a bunch of ferrets with little banners attached to them with ‘for’ and ‘against’ weight loss intervention have been let into a room and are causing havoc. We’ve only just got all the ferrets back into their correct boxes from the last thread, and you’ve noticed that, tiptoed in and knocked the boxes over and now are standing back and enjoying the show.

There’s nothing wrong in medical intervention if you want or need it, there is also nothing wrong with doing it without, all choose one and just get on with it, no need to consult anyone else, if your bored then go and watch catchup!

maintaining all your hard work should give you the motivation to stay there.

If only it were that simple. But really, it depends on the extent to which your relationship with food is fucked.

So true. I recently lost 18kg in about 4 months (starving myself but not on weight loss jabs) but have now put it all back on. I can’t believe I’ve done that but Eating Disorders are complicated and apparently it was inevitable.

CommonAF · 29/12/2024 10:07

I’ve only been on them for five weeks but they’ve had such a profound impact on me that I intend on taking them for life.

This.

Sod that. I am finally prioritising myself and my health.

Lunedimiel · 29/12/2024 10:40

Maintaining is the big challenge irrespective of how you lose it. There is no advantage either way.

You want to lose it in a way that reflects your long term maintenance plan so you develop new habits as you go.

Plenty of people use WLI to do this. But you need to consider your personal balance of risks and benefits (with a Doctor).

Well, there is, as it has now been evidenced on people keeping most of it off v those who lose the normal way, you can google for the stats,

ThinWomansBrain · 29/12/2024 10:41

A friend is taking wegovy for the same reason.
Expensive, but working for her.
Discuss with your GP? if not able to prescribe, they may be able to recommend someone that can treat privately.

ExtraOnions · 29/12/2024 10:42

….Yay another post on Weight loss jabs, if you spent half a moment looking you will find several others, all with the same arguments underneath

Here is a massive one from only last week https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/5229035-people-who-think-weight-loss-injections-are-cheating

If you want to take them take them (I do), if you don’t then don’t … last time I checked they weren’t compulsory

People who think weight loss injections are cheating | Mumsnet

I've seen this viewpoint over multiple threads recently, and I'm just really curious to understand it a bit more because it makes no sense to me whats...

DarkAndTwisties · 29/12/2024 10:43

Let's say it is an easy cop out. So what? What is wrong with taking the easiest route to being healthier? That seems like a very sensible thing to do.

DreamW3aver · 29/12/2024 10:44

Augustus40 · 29/12/2024 10:06

Don't they say now that obesity is 80 per cent medical?

Who says that? That doesnt sound at all true

I don't think it's a cop out but it's easy to understand why that would be a common view when people have struggled for ever with their weight and now there's a quick fix

Ablondiebutagoody · 29/12/2024 10:44

It is a cop out considering you could "just" eat less, but who cares? Sounds like you should do it

Moglet4 · 29/12/2024 10:45

JMSA · 29/12/2024 10:05

Losing weight is the easy part. It's keeping it off that's brutal 😭

Other way round for me

Lunedimiel · 29/12/2024 10:45

Shrinkingrose · 29/12/2024 10:41

Well, there is, as it has now been evidenced on people keeping most of it off v those who lose the normal way, you can google for the stats,

I have read NICE's technical discussion of evidence including Eli Lilly's detailed submissions. The modelling assumption NICE and the manufacturer use is that all weight is regained by the two year mark.

AhBiscuits · 29/12/2024 10:49

Keeping the weight off is hard and most people regain, irrespective of how the weight was lost. It's not harder when you use injectibles, it's just as hard. That isn't a good reason not to use them imo. I'm much happier slim and fighting to stay that way than I was when fat.

Caerulea · 29/12/2024 10:52

I worked a lot in harm reduction & a lot of the arguments against it are exactly the same as for these weightloss pills/injections. There's a puritanical sense of ppl needing to suffer to stop smoking/drinking/drugs & now lose weight. Why? There are better options than suffering & it's just inhumane to force ppl down that path ESPECIALLY when it isn't effective.

I know precisely nothing about these new drugs but if they help & reduce issues & cause less misery than restrictive diets then I'm all for them!

ueberlin2030 · 29/12/2024 10:53

NewZealandintherain · 29/12/2024 10:34

Your words read as if you think using a weight loss drug and having a caesarean are similar.

SilenceInside · 29/12/2024 10:56

@Itsmyturntobehappy why on earth would you have an issue with a medication making it easier or possible to lose weight, when you need to lose weight for fairly urgent health reasons?

Tortielady · 29/12/2024 11:04

Are you contemplating other major life changes without help and if not, why not? How about giving birth? Giving up smoking? Going back into education after years away and with not a clue about how everything works? Or what about divorce, under circumstances that are legally complex and emotionally trying? We all need help sometimes. Losing a ton of weight is a terrific achievement with or without pharmaceutical help, but it's first and foremost necessary, especially when your biochemistry won't wait for you to get the hang of the latest thing in diets. Your pancreas doesn't care about your morals, it just wants a break.

sociallydistained · 29/12/2024 11:05

I've just ordered Monjauro for the first time. I'm awaiting it now as I feel absolutely desperate. I am getting bigger and bigger. I gained 3 stone after my pregnancy and I'm now a further 1.5 stone bigger than that and my son is nearly 3! I'm so worried. I exercise too so I dread to think how much worse it could get. I need help so this is a last resort.
I've lost weight in the past normally but I feel beyond that now. It may be a cop out but honestly it's an intervention at this point.

Nah

Dontwearmysocks · 29/12/2024 11:10

@Itsmyturntobehappy go for it if you feel it’s what you need. I did wegovy and it’s the best bloody decision I’ve made in years.

Dulra · 29/12/2024 11:23

I am pasting a link to an interview on Irish radio with a very respected Obesity consultant. He views ozempic and others as a game changer for the treatment of obesity and says
It’s incredible progress. It’s the first, I’m gonna say safe, effective medical treatment we’ve had for obesity.

I have no idea why people would view it as anything but ground breaking. The health risks associated with obesity and the subsequent cost to our health services are immense. This is something to be celebrated.

I’m down nearly 4 and a half stone so far. I don’t care if some people think it’s cheating or judge me for it. They were probably the people judging me for being fat in the first place 🤷‍♀️
