Would you want to know if you were living in The Matrix?

Lighthearted and inspired by a conversation with my other half after watching The Matrix!

Would you want to know if our “reality” was all a computer generated projection and fight our robotic oppressors, or would you prefer to be blissfully unaware and live in this faux reality?

I said I would want to stay in the matrix - I mean, the real world looks terrifying with flying robotic squids, living on a battered (and frankly grim looking) spaceship, everything in darkness, eating slop and having a giant plug in the back of my head! I would definitely stay in my jelly pod, blissfully unaware of what reality was really like.

What would you do? Stay in the matrix or want to live in the real world and fight robots?

AIBU - viva la revolution! Wake up and fight the squid robots

AINBU - stay in jelly and everything is peachy

I'd stay in the matrix. It did look a bit shite being 'unplugged'

hazelnutvanillalatte · 28/12/2024 20:18

Yes I suppose

DefyingGravy · 28/12/2024 20:19

In the matrix please.

EmeraldRoulette · 28/12/2024 20:22

I never got to the end of that film because it was getting on my nerves. What's outside the matrix?

I have had that conversation about living in a simulation* but I kind of thought it doesn't matter unless you can escape it and go somewhere nice.

*(selling petrol) (in case anyone knows the reference)

Spaghetticonfetti · 28/12/2024 20:24

@EmeraldRoulette oh it is GRIM. People living in rags, dirty and unsanitary conditions, crap food and fighting big scary robots whilst trying to “free” the human race from robots.

I’d happily stay plugged in and naked in my slimy haven please.

@Spaghetticonfetti but it we buy you some nice clothes, you'll get dressed? 😂

sounds like it's worth staying in the matrix then!

IKEAJesus · 28/12/2024 20:26

Depends on whether the matrix world or the real world was nicer.

RollerCoaster2020 · 28/12/2024 20:28

Very oddly, my middle boy when aged about two and a half stated "mummy, daddy, I don't think we live in a real world. It's just a game played by someone else" make of that what you want. From the mouths of babes.

TomatoSandwiches · 28/12/2024 20:29

Depends if I get the chance to snog Keanu Reeves out of the matrix or not tbh.

Dwappy · 28/12/2024 20:30

Matrix all the way. (As long as it was better obviously)
As long as I was happy and I believed life was good, I’d be happy enough.

Oreosareawful · 28/12/2024 20:31

Ignorance is bliss

Hello2025 · 28/12/2024 22:25

Red Pill and the real world for me, I'd hunt those metal, tentacle waving fuckers down and make nice things from their scrap.

I'd want to ask them to reprogramme it a bit so the DC went to bed the first time they were asked and they didn't leave shoes everywhere.

Mockingjay876 · 28/12/2024 22:28

In the matrix. Purely because of the food they were eating in the ‘real world’.

GeraldineGrang3r · 28/12/2024 22:28

Definitely stay in the matrix. I don't care what stressful stuff is going on in my life, outside of the matrix things seemed way worse!

RabbitsRock · 28/12/2024 22:34

Rollercoaster2020 wow that’s amazing! Gave me goosebumps! Has your DS said anything else unexpected?

Totally this. I’d love it if the kids did what I asked the first time without the excuses and negotiating rather the 21st time when I’ve lost my shit at them.

I’d also quite like it if I could lose 3 stone without doing the whole diet and exercise thing. Both those changes would massively
improve my life and then I’d happily stay in the matrix.

I’d like a less grumpy husband too but I think they might be too much for the matrix to handle.

Ecstaticmotion · 28/12/2024 22:39

You basically already live in the matrix if you know much about how the majority of the world population live. So unless you’re actively trying to make political change, you’ve already made your choice

In the Matrix you don't know though

johnyhadasister · 28/12/2024 22:42

same as people living now and never inquiring about the afterlife

caramelcappucino · 28/12/2024 22:52

Rather live in the ugly truth than a pretty lie.

SerafinasGoose · 28/12/2024 23:13

Red pill all the way for me.

I have terrible FOMO.

ConstitutionHill · 29/12/2024 07:47

I choose the matrix.

I think it’s the Truman Show you’re looking for - everything was perfect there!
