Birkdale doesn’t seem great, neither does wesrbornw. Happy to travel if needed… does anyone know of any that are good in this region?

Mount St Mary’s?

Accoune · 28/12/2024 18:43

@Tlaloc999 thank you! Never heard of it but looks good from brief look online. Have you heard good things?

Depending on where you are in relation to Sheffield, there is Hill House in Finningley. Lots seem happy with it... but its got an odd reputation in the local area due to some staff and parents seeming to go out of their way to antagonise the local villages.

Wellow House is supposed to be amazing. But it's Nottinghamshire so not that close

Nat6999 · 28/12/2024 19:20

It is a state school, but look at Mercia School, it is run along private lines, very high achieving, quite strict.

StrongandNorthern · 29/12/2024 16:21

There are actually some Very Good state schools in Sheffield - both primary and secondary (you've not specified which).
Mercia is relatively new. Have no personal experience of it. Seems to destined to be 'up there at the top of the league tables, but that's by no means the 'be all and end all' for a school.
You're apparently underwhelmed by Birkdale and Westbourne. What are you looking for in a school?

Totally irrelevant but the Executive Director (headteacher) of Mercia school is HOT!

Off on a tangent but Mercia was the school that posted the mental advert for an assistant head.

Ackworth school. I had a lovely time and did very well. QEGS in Wakefield if you want single sex. My friends boys are starting to filter out of there and are all going on to great and wonderful things

Which was that? Was it online?

Sheffield High school for girls? If you have a DD.

Nat6999 · 29/12/2024 20:11

Where in Sheffield are you living or going to live?

Skindoodler · 31/12/2024 08:48

Another vote here for Ackworth. It's a wonderful school.

High staff turnover ...

Depending on ages, S. Anselms in Bakewell is fabulous.

An easy journey without any traffic from Sheffield, stunning surroundings and facilities.

Wonderfully nurturing and all kids LOVE school…which I find amazing!

They have an Open Day on Friday 27th June which would be very worthwhile checking out.
