Why does he leave the knives and forks in the sink to soak?

Er....johnso.

Well done doing the knives and forks. You can;t be a monster..........

Twoddle · 02/05/2008 23:13

Tricky. It's great (and yet shouldn't even be a novelty) that your DH does it; many don't. (My XP didn't very often - and neither did I out of protest. Cue build-up.)

Mrs Beaton has a whole section on washing-up technique. It's a bit full-on, but the gist makes sense. Idea being you start with least dirty things and work through to dirtiest: glasses and cups first; then plates and bowls; then cutlery; then pans. Wash in hot soapy water. Rinse in clean hot water. Drain. Works a treat - casually leave a print-out lying around? I always used to find XP would read things in the loo ...

DP is good at washing up in general but no-one is as anal retentive as me, esp when it comes to washing greasy/oily things. Everything has to be washed/wiped and rinsed properly, I hate it when things have supposedly been washed and still have a greasy layer on them!

CJMommy · 04/05/2008 17:52

Our dishwasher broke so DH said he would do all the washing up until he fixed it - that was about 2 years ago....dishwasher still not fixed and he has done the washing up about twice this year so far!

Sheikh's "Didn';t realise Johnso was mental" is the funniest thing I have read for a while

Tortington · 04/05/2008 17:55

knifes and forks always get left in my house - drives me nuts

saw thread title and was going to be flippant - but you have a genuine gripe - you should divorce him

Lilymaid · 04/05/2008 17:58

DH is an expert maker of biological soup - he leaves the dirtiest stuff to soak over night, then washes up the following evening ... and never cleans the bowl or sink out afterwards. And of course there is always some cutlery at the bottom of the murk that he doesn't find.

DH is is a very good washer upper, and checks everyone else's. I have yet to meet (or hear of) anyone whose washing up comes up to his standards. Likewise his hoovering, his ironing, his folding and putting away of clothes and a few other things which I cannot now remember. Sadly, he does none of them very often himself.

beaniesteve · 04/05/2008 18:57

I do this. I'm lazy.

johnso · 04/05/2008 22:32

I think my harsh words on DH have had an effect.
The last couple of days, the dishes have been pristine.
Including today, when he made a roast dinner, so there were roasting tins and every pot in the house was dirty. The washing up was faultless-and thorough!!
I said well, that's better isn't it?
He grinned like a cheshire cat and said thanks love

LOL. DH's just don't do it the way you would. But you seriously need to appreciate that he is doing something. I understand your frustration though, DH never cleans the table or worktops - which drives me batty as I still have to go in and clean even though he feels all virtuous at doing the washing up. I just try to look at other men who don't do anything and then think myself lucky though (and mention it to DH in as non-confrontational way as I can manage - could he please clean the board in future).

CrazyMofo · 04/05/2008 22:52

men do the whole bad washing up technique to get out of doing it again!

how about washing up everything apart from the baby bottles?

Eddas · 04/05/2008 23:21

there's always something that the other person doesn't do quite right

Joash · 04/05/2008 23:22

Mine just dips everything in the water and thinks thats enough to clean them - hence having to re-wash most of the dishes before we can actually use them. It is definately a male thing, as DS also does it. Both also seem incapable of drying things properly too.

Quattrocento · 04/05/2008 23:24

Oh just stop it Johnso - it's not clever and it's not funny and it's bloody unkind.

Your poor DH

Joash · 04/05/2008 23:25

and they find it impossible to put the cutlery in the correct compartment of the drawer...aaarrgghhh!!

Quattrocento · 04/05/2008 23:25

In fact I've gone beyond and heading for

Joash · 04/05/2008 23:26

and they mix soup spoons with desert spoons, or coffee jar spoons with serving spoons, or small forks with large ones,

Ledodgy · 04/05/2008 23:27

Oh I hated the 'leaving things to soak' thing tis an excuse to be a lazy f*cker. Thank God we got a dishwasher when we got our kitchen done last year!

Joash · 04/05/2008 23:27

nor do they put the glasses in the right rows

Joash · 04/05/2008 23:28

and they put sharp knives the wrong way up in the drainer

Joash · 04/05/2008 23:28

is it possible to have OCD about dishes?????
