to use as stock for future cooking?

I’ve done this for ages - use it in all sorts but house guest says I am basically then using salty coke which is 🤮

I personally throw it away. My choice, I used smoked ham so not sure if that's saltier than non smoked. It if you have used it & no one has noticed/said this is odd tasting/salty. You do what you like. I also don't have the freezer space. I do freeze gravy, when it's been made properly, which I only make occasionally. So feels like a treat & boosts a normal roast.

But it's delicious salty coke! I recommend making black bean soup with it.

House guests should keep quiet if they want to be invited back!

I would keep the stock anyway, even if it wasn't Coke, so it sounds like sense to me. I would freeze it and use it for soup.

Screamingabdabz · 27/12/2024 13:01

The recipe says to keep it to one side but not what to do with it. It looks revolting anyway so I just chuck it. The ham is amazing though.

EmmaStone · 27/12/2024 13:22

I chuck it because I don't have the headspace, but I seem to recall Nigella recommending it as stock for her black bean soup (as a PP has suggested).

IDontLikePinaColadas · 27/12/2024 13:23

Oh no don’t chuck it! It’s delicious and makes fabulous soups.

The cherry coke recipe has a note about using the stock to cook red cabbage in. We tried it once and it worked well

Thanks for all your replies - it’s in the freezer!

House guest on way home probably making a mental note to decline soup/anything with a sauce on next visit 😂

Happy New Year!
