I’ve been in bed all of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day with flu. Proper full on bedridden flu. I’ve had a burning temperature and full on aches and pains etc. I have two young children but thankfully I had everything organised that presents and Santa could still go ahead. We cancelled my parents’ visit on Xmas Day as they are elderly.
My husband has managed to let everything tick along and keep the kids entertained. I get it…he’s had a shit Christmas too.
However, we’ve just had an argument as I lie here in my sick bed as he has this really bad trait of needing to be ill too. It started yesterday with him taking his own temperature after doing mine. Comments like I’m not feeling too good either. He went to bed (in the spare room) after the kids did last night. He’s just come in this morning and fucked me right off by saying he had a temperature at 1 o’clock last night and a little bit of sick. It must be norovirus. Takes my temperature…still red on the thermometer and then his own…green. It’s like he wants to be ill!
When I challenged him about it he says that he’s saying it in a sympathetic way so he can relate to my illness. That just pushed be over the edge. I know I should be kind but it really grates me as I would give anything to have not been poorly over Christmas and spent it with my kids.
