Is 8 too young to watch Sex and the City?

OP posts:

Yes it’s much too young. I also don’t think it’s something an 8 year old would seek out for themselves or be remotely interested in, sounds like a parent doing it in a performative way.

It’s not appropriate- however that is probably a minority opinion based on some of the things my year 3 class tell me they have seen.

What sort of things are they watching?

I don’t remember there being any full frontal nudity? Refresh my memory as it’s been awhile since I watched any.

It might technically be full back-al nudity, technically, but I'm pretty sure we see all of the other three fully nude at various points. There's definitely a Samantha and Smith scene where she is clearly fully naked for quite a while and Miranda was also very naked at times.

Samantha was often fully nude and riding the dick of the day. No erect penises of course, although Richard’s was definitely visible in at least one scene - the late night pool sex.

Also plenty of tits on show, man going down on Miranda and coming up with his face covered in her juices, the rimming scene already mentioned, man talking to Sam about her “titty witties” after she wore the fake nipples, “I’m dating a man with the funkiest tasting spunk” , Sam fucking a guy on the bonnet of his jeep in the desert in one of the movies, the one where she lost her orgasm and spends all day masturbating. I mean none of it is ok for an 8 year old.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 26/12/2024 23:43

Politician guy wanting Carrie to piss on him. Trey can’t get an erection.

WTF is any parent thinking letting a child watch this?!

Snorlaxo · 26/12/2024 23:45

Would an 8 year old even find it interesting? I’ve heard of 8 year olds watching Friends but there’s some comedy that would appeal to an 8 year old like Joey wearing all of Chandler’s clothes.

Snorlaxo · 26/12/2024 23:48

I wouldn’t want an 8 year old to start using words like dick instead of willy and know what blowjobs were. Iirc all of the actresses except SJP showed their bare breasts.

Mnetcurious · 27/12/2024 00:18

Superfastconnection · 26/12/2024 12:36

They said the child enjoys watching it in their own right

WTF, how can they possibly? The dialogue would be boring because they wouldn’t really understand it. Even a programme like Friends wouldn’t be of interest to an 8yo because they just wouldn’t get most of it, or be interested in adult conversations about relationships.

The sex in SATC would just be disturbing, I don’t believe for a second that the child enjoys it.

I didn’t ask for a play by play.

Well apart from all the Love Island type of reality TV - which I don’t think is appropriate.
I know many of them have seen breaking bad, and most of them have seen Game of Thrones.
Film wise they have seen a number of Zombie horrors.
And all manner of stuff on YouTube/tiktok
They also play Call of Duty in its various forms, I can tell some play their dads old games as they will talk about playing Assassins Creed and GTA.
Maybe I’m prudish and all this is fine nowadays- I still CPOMs (record for safeguarding purposes)it though.

This is absolutely horrifying! Me and my husband recently discussed our 15 yo watching game of thrones (with us) and decided it was inappropriate because of all the sex etc - things are usually rated 18 for good reason! I don’t let my teenagers watch love island either as I’ve explained to them that these are not good examples of how healthy relationships work and what important values are. It’s awful that such young children are learning and taking their cues from completely inappropriate tv and gaming, these parents are so irresponsible.

Randomuser9876 · 27/12/2024 11:59

I think 99 is too young to watch it as it's total shit.

Really toxic and horrible

ByHeartyCyanMentor · 27/12/2024 11:59

We have had a child come to book day dressed as a game of thrones character before now - the blonde woman - I haven’t seen it myself so not sure which character that is.

dayslikethese1 · 27/12/2024 12:09

Wtf of course 8 is way too young. And I don't even have kids but I would have thought it's obvious to everyone that an 8 year old shouldn't be watching a show where off the top of my head there are detailed discussions of threesomes, blow jobs, fetishes, cum, anal sex....I could go on (that's just the first season 😂)

That is shocking!
I am guilty of letting my kids watch shows and play games which are a bit older than the age rating for eg, Stranger Things or playing fortnite. They are 14 and 12.

They have asked lots of times to watch Got and I would never in a million years consider it. It's actually quite horrifying thinking of children watching that.

dayslikethese1 · 27/12/2024 12:13

Bit worried about these parents who think it's fine to show their 8 yr olds GOT and SATC tbh🙄

So am I.
Which is why I constantly record and report as safeguarding issues.

greengreyblue · 30/01/2025 19:12

Bloody hell!!! I’m 53 and some of it embarrasses me! My adult DDs watch it sometimes but o wouldn’t want to watch it with them.
I work in primary- school would take it seriously.

Januarybirthdaysarehardtomakefun · 30/01/2025 19:14

Report to safe guarding.

Woodworm2020 · 30/01/2025 19:16

Are you serious? The clue is in the shows title. Of course it’s far too young!

Trallers · 30/01/2025 19:20

I'd be horrified if a child watched it accidentally. The idea of SATC being parent-sanctioned viewing is nothing short of appalling. Definitely report, making clear the parent knows and allows it (plenty of kids sneak a watch of something, or exaggerate how much they've seen, which is quite different).
