I MEAN YEAR CALENDAR

Ive been thinking about making one for 3-4 weeks ago but now my bf and i recived as chritsmas gift from his brother and wife an year calendar with pictures of them and their dogs and names and birthdays and anniversarys, even the dogs birtdhays, My birthday is not written there neither me and my bfs 3 anniversary either, only his birtdhay and some other people i have no idea who are and my bfs other siblings anniversary, but not my bfs sister or his mom or grandparents(his sister not sibling of my bfs brother). Ok anyways. Nice pictures of them and the dogs buuuut feels a bit off hanging a year calendar of someone elses adventures, would have come better of as a chritsmas card. My bf dosn’t know i had this planned either.. so there for i don’t want to come out as mean or rude or that i didnt like their gift.. the chocolates where nice tho, But the year calendar seems so impersonal to me. We don’t live togheter yet but will on february next year. My bf only see his brother on family birtdhays and barely talk on socials. So they don’t visit each other.

It's a family thing. You don't live together they probably have no idea when your birthday is, or the date you got together . Wouldn't worry about it. It will probably be put in a drawer and never used.

Laylalie · 25/12/2024 17:32

@Dartmoorcheffy probs. I expected my birtdhay there at least since the gift was for both of us. But i guess once we live it will be on drawer or sthm, maybe nice to remember his nieces and nephews birtdhays and brothers. But i really wanted make one of our own adventures. He hasn’t hanged it yet

I always think that personalised stuff of other people's photos is the highest level of tat. Why am I going to give up wall space for eg a massive framed collage of iPhone pics of your kids or wedding photos etc? That's for grandparents only surely. It tends to lessen after the first child (or dog in this case) when people lose enthusiasm or realise not everyone is obsessed with their life as they are.

Banish this calendar to a behind the cupboard door space and make one of your own photos if that's what you want.

User37482 · 25/12/2024 17:59

I don’t know anyone who wants a calendar of other people hanging up in their house. It’s utterly naff. Don’t do it.

FrowntonAbbey · 25/12/2024 18:03

How old are you? I don’t think anyone beyond teenage years counts “anniversaries” with boyfriends, much less expects anyone else to even care. You don’t even live together. Face it, you’re nothing to them. That may change when you grow up but right now you’re not part of the family, in their eyes. I have teenage nephews who have girlfriends. I have no idea when their “anniversaries” are, and I don’t really care.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 25/12/2024 18:05

Very odd present.

Thepeopleversuswork · 25/12/2024 18:09

I also think it’s cringe and incredibly tacky.

Laylalie · 25/12/2024 18:10

@FrowntonAbbey its sound more like «we don’t care about yours, but here is ours!» would feel nice to be included. But my tough why give someone a gift that has no meaning in it? My number 1 worst gift i recieved this year🤣 would be different if it was only for my bf but it was for both. This is prob a hit for their parents and grandparents (i dont knot know and my bf don’t know all their other family), i can’t myself make me care about their dogs birtdhay or their aunties and other people i never ever meet😶

OP posts:
Laylalie · 25/12/2024 18:19

@bonquiqui yea fr. i wouldn’t even hang it if my sister got me one of them and her kids either i really want to make one but i will prob come out as rude and that i didn’t like their gift. Even if it it said from fido and deniis (the dogs)🤣. I rather hang our own with our own pictures and adventures instead

It's a present off a relative you barely know for a house you don't live in. Yes it's an odd present - we'd only gift something like this to grandparents if photos were full of kids otherwise it's something you make for yourself - but unless it's the only present you got, I wouldn't worry. What did you guys get them?

neverbeenskiing · 25/12/2024 18:20

It's a weird and cringey thing to give as a gift, but your expectation that they include your birthday and 'anniversary' when you're not married and don't even live together is also a bit weird tbh. They probably put your name on the gift tag as an afterthought but the gift was for your DP and obviously intended as a family thing.

Laylalie · 25/12/2024 18:23

@neverbeenskiing maybe idk. But feels eh to write my birthday down there with lots of other people i have no idea who they are. I will maybe say him if he remembers the gift. That its a very pretty gift of them maybe a tought to make our own? But idk 🤣

OP posts:
Laylalie · 25/12/2024 18:29

@Thepeopleversuswork same. I could never give my own siblings a year calendar with only pictures of us. For me is more like «yeaa such a pretty gift!» (puts it in drawer and complitely forgetS about it) thats what i feel about those. Unless its from my own kids and later on grandkids

OP posts:
Laylalie · 25/12/2024 18:33

@neverbeenskiing but my other tough.. what if people don’t want to get married? Does it mean we never be a part of their family and not included?

OP posts:
Laylalie · 25/12/2024 18:42

@User37482 its just like idk. A but weird? The pictures of them and their dogs where nice but i just don’t feel like hanging up a calendar of other peoples picture and life. Thats the limit when it comes to personal chritsmas gift. Where it needs to be hanged so everyone can see and wonder why we have a calendar of other people than ourselfs🤣

Just let your boyfriend hold onto it if he wants it? You get whatever calendar you want for your home. If you move in together pick which one, if any, you want up.

Cherrysoup · 25/12/2024 18:51

I cannot imagine giving someone pics of me or my dogs! How very weird! I do moonpig cards using nice pics of my relatives for their birthdays, but making them a calendar using pics of me would be odd. I’ve made myself a calendar of my own horse/dogs, I’d never dream of giving it to someone else.

I think it's a bit weird that it's just them and the dogs. I get a calendar every year from my sister's family and I really love those. Maybe there one of those "my dogs are my children" families.

Laylalie · 25/12/2024 19:18

@Cherrysoup
fr. i feel weird using a calendar of other people and their pets than the ones who live in the house. Now it may even be inconsiderate of me to make us one of us instead, because they gifted us (mostly my bf) a calendar already. I cant care less either of their dogs or uncle, aunties i have no idea of who they are, every other sibling and their wife on there

OP posts:
StepAwayFromMyCoffee · 25/12/2024 19:32

Do it. Our 2024 calendar is a photo calendar of us in Florida in 2023. Our upcoming 2025 photo calendar is us in Canada earlier this year. There’s loads of fabulous memories and it will look fab on the wall (as this year’s has done)

However, we wouldn’t dream of giving a copy to other people as pressies! How weird. A few people have flicked through this year’s calendar when they’ve been at ours but that’s it.

I'm sure they won't question why it isn't up in your house in pride of place. They likely got a cheap job lot and have passed them all off as easy tat gifts. If they do mention it, say honestly you wanted a calendar with your own pictures on as they presumably did!

Are you quite young OP? I really wouldn't worry about hurting egos over something as minor as this and esp not if you're going to then get your own through some misplaced sense of calendar loyalty. People pleasing is a race to the bottom!

Laylalie · 25/12/2024 20:48

@StepAwayFromMyCoffee

we also have so many pretty pictures from last year and this years that would be lovley to use. This year from our 3 trips and more, then i would personalize it a bit more for us. Maybe i write down my parents and sister on my own so feels more fair to my bf to and only put mine and his birtdhay on there and our anniversairy. But at least it would fit more for us.

bonquiqui · 25/12/2024 21:26

Just stick it in the drawer OP. I really don't think they sat there lovingly creating it for you alone (as indicated by the fact your birthdays aren't on there but the dogs are). They 100% got a discount on a job lot and I'm sure all the random people whose birthdays did make the cut also had one "lovingly" bestowed on them.

Why suffer through with a piece of crap you don't want by adding your events on to it? It won't make you happy and they really will not give a shit now it's been gifted. Stand up for yourself and get the things you want instead of sparing feelings and being a martyr!

mondaytosunday · 25/12/2024 21:43

I do this but only for the one remaining grandparent and my cousin (who is close to my kids) plus myself . Half of it is landscapes I took (cousin is a keen photographer too), the other my kids. I'm not sure who else I'd give it to - and if I was giving it to a sibling I'd put notable dates in but not sure I'd include their GF/BFs unless living together or in a committed relationship. It is an odd gift.

jannier · 25/12/2024 21:49
