Why the fucking fuck have we had massive fireworks for the last twenty minutes on Christmas fucking day?!

Why? We have had solid bangs for the last twenty minutes - who the hell goes out on CHRISTMAS DAY at 4.30pm for fucking fireworks?

I'm at my mum's and will probably now have to spend boxing day in the emergency vet if it's similar at home, because my cats don't cope well with fireworks and I stupidly assumed Christmas day was not a day for fireworks displays.

Edit for time!

It’s the start of Hanukkah today so may be linked to that?

StopGo · 25/12/2024 17:47

Got to 5.45pm here Why just why. Our spaniel isn't gun shy but even so. Bloody annoying

Just read on FB that a family are warning everyone that they will be setting off fireworks in memory of their son who died on Christmas day a few years ago.

Maybe there is a reason for the family in your area.

There are other ways to remember people than setting off things that will kill an animal out of fright or make a cow miscarry. Whilst they're remembering someone who had died someone else is dealing with something that has died due to them setting off fireworks.

It's Christmas and time to be joyful. We always have house fireworks after Christmas dinner and love it! The louder the better to celebrate this time of year !

Christmas is supposed to be a quiet family celebration.

Inflicting your fireworks on people is a cunty thing to do.

Are you serious? You do know Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Christ, which has nothing to do with fireworks as far as I know?

AtmosAtmos · 25/12/2024 18:00

I’m a Catholic and there is definitely no tradition within the church of fire works. Even if there was both secular and religious use of fireworks should be regulated. Warning in the local area so pet owners and anyone else that doesn’t like them know.

"Love a good firework and knowing it makes armed forces veterans cry tears, and die by suicide, makes those bangs all the better"

And the people with dementia? Do you enjoy it even more when they are crying and frightened?

It's not "fully legal" after 11pm unless it's bonfire night or NYE. And it's also not "fully legal" to let off professional grade fireworks outside of a licenced display. As you're so concerned with the law, presumably you'd be in favour of a clampdown on antisocial and illegal use?

Why, when I can just openly tell you how much of an horrific waste of oxygen you are?

And several veterans charities have already done so. The fact you knowingly do this says all anyone needs to know about you.

Round my way, it means the new drugs are in so you can text your dealer. Is that not a thing in other areas?

Glad to hear it. The thread has moved on from the original OP though. Anyway, stepping away from this now, as I'm finding it quite upsetting; I'm already struggling with my mum not being here this year, and this doesn't bring back happy memories.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 25/12/2024 18:13

Loads were going off here last night. Really not helping my asthma.

Sorry not a good enough reason.

It shouldn't be, its not a Jewish tradition.

Brombat · 25/12/2024 18:24

Yeah, they had fireworks in Conwy last night, assume the Council organised them. Couldn't help but think that's Christmas Eve ruined for many pet owners...horrible watching your pet on the edge of a heart attack...glad it wasn't here but expect it won't be long before it gets here too.

Not usually, but it has been known and if you google it does say some people do. Just a thought because it coincided this year with Christmas Day.

Why? It could just as easily be because it's christmas

Daddydog · 25/12/2024 18:41

Probably Hanukkah! Its quite a rare occurrence but this year, it falls this year on the same day as Xmas!

It's the spark of the life of the baby Jesus reflected in the sparks and light in the sky. We love the fireworks.

AquaPeer · 25/12/2024 19:05

AllesAusLiebe · 25/12/2024 17:39

Everyone knows someone who has died. Most people sit around the Christmas table thinking, "I wish (grandma / great aunt Maud / my pet hamster I had when I was 10) was here to see this. They'd love it."

They just choose not to be dicks making a loud racket about it.

Seems fairly obvious they are referring to a child, not sure everyone has lost their son in childhood, but hey, as long as they don’t disturb you 😏
