What should we do?? We can hearing rustling noises and shuffling.

Mouse poison in the loft? Call pest control?

Freaking out because I hate anything creepy or.crawly .or mousey or worse - ratty (🐀)....

He is v loud and sounds like he's making a nest :(

You know that you can buy your own mouse traps from places like B&Q just do that get yourself couple of mouse traps put a tiny bit of cheese on each and see what happens

Workingclasslass · 24/12/2024 08:59

But it also could be a bird maybe you need to go up there and have a look

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 24/12/2024 08:59

Squirrel?

UpHillVerySlowly · 24/12/2024 08:59

Might be a squirrel. Call pest control if so as squirrels can be very destructive.

If you get the kind that snaps on them, it’ll just break the neck. I guess if it’s alive and yeah, you can just release it outside.

You probably have more than one mouse. Most houses have mice.

You can buy humane traps, bait them (our mice like sweet things like dried fruit, chocolate) and then you take the mouse catcher outside somewhere not too close and release it. You don’t have to ever touch the mouse, and actually you’ll see they are very small and quite sweet.

MatildaTheCat · 24/12/2024 09:03

If you can hear it it’s probably not a mouse/ mice.

we had rats and yes, you could hear them. Get traps and load up with peanut butter. Find the place they are getting in and block it. Or call a pest controller but that’s expensive for much the same thing.

There's never just one mouse...

MatildaTheCat · 24/12/2024 09:04

I have to admit I screamed when I saw the size of the rats we had. I can’t say I was sorry they were dead- they’d come into our kitchen vis the drains….

It could be just mice. The scratching of mice in my house can be very loud. It depends what they're scratching. It's definitely not rats in my case.

There's never just one mouse...

Sometimes there is i used to live near a river and every winter one would sneak in and there Was only ever one at a time
I did also have a rat infestation at my current address's which was awful.

Workingclasslass · 24/12/2024 09:09

Just as a little side note, I don’t suppose you have a little terrier do you? I miss my boy. He died this year at the age of 15 but swear to God he would’ve been a great rat and mouse catcher they really are. Anyway, if you do send him in the loft.

CarolSwimmer · 24/12/2024 09:11

Not a great Christmas eve so far!!

I've woken up ill with a sore throat, aching muscles, little (or maybe not so little) mouse/rat etc.. running a mock in the loft, and now DH is in a bad mood because of the mouse/rat problem and is stomping about saying "I thought I'd be able to relax this morning .. there's always something ... " etc...!!!

Would I be unreasonable to.disappear off to buy a mousetrap and accidentally end up in a coffee shop having a bit of time to myself to chill???

Relatives coming at 13:00!!! Agghhhhh...

Haha! We do have two dogs! But one is husky cross!

An unboarded loft and two crazy, high energy pups would turn Christmas even more into a comedy movie / shit show than it already is!!

Lampoons Christmas vacation on steroids!

My DD had very noisy squirrels in her loft. Could it be that? They are very destructive

I’ve had a mouse in the house before, act quickly before you have hundreds! .
Check for the little droppings, they will be everywhere the mouse had been.Hoover them up, do not use a dust pan and brush .
Get several traps from B and Q/The Range and set them where you found the dropping.
I get enough traps so that I don’t need to reuse them! The mouse will be dead so carefully double bag in plastic bin bags to dispose of.
When you are sure there are no more mice, block even the tiniest cracks/ holes in walls, floors, skirting boards with expandable foam filler or wire wool. Good luck.

Peanut butter. They can't resist it. Seriously though, call pest control and buy some traps and some rubber gloves (to pick them up with 😱).
