To really swear by drinking water ?

I’m currently on a diet /exercise plan and trying to aim for drinking 2 litres of water a day.

I don’t mix my water with anything else - it’s just straight tap water but omg it makes such a difference to everything. It improves my

Skin
Digestion

Can speed up weight loss but ONLY as part of a calorie controlled diet and exercise plan - won’t make you lose weight on its own !

So yes - something this simple really makes a huge difference to wellbeing and 2 litres of tap water a day costs next to nothing

I was thinking yesterday as well that clean drinking water is something we take for granted in a rich, developed nation like the UK. Was thinking that if I lived in one of the world’s Least Developed Countries I might be walking 10 miles a day for this privelege!

So yes - water I think is an excellent ‘superfood’ as they say - or ‘superdrink’

And I say this as someone who isn’t really a ‘natural’ water drinker - I don’t really like drinking it - much prefer drinking Diet Coke/Pepsi Max if given a choice ! But this is why I space my water drinking out throughout the day - so 500 ml every 3 hours or something ! Makes it easier !

So in short - highly recommended!

I feel so much better when I’m hydrated, but I have a bladder condition so I just can’t drink much at all or it kicks it off.
I wish I could tolerate drinking more.

The world's best kept secret is Rooibos or Redbush tea, caffeine free, without milk it is as hydrating as water but full of antioxidants.
I drink it all day long.

I tried this without milk of varying strengths and couldn't get on with it.

Instead I made it like my normal tea, strong with a dash of milk. Delicious!!

I agree. A cold drink of water just doesnt press my buttons in winter. Try starting the day with a warm or even hot water - somehow so much more satisfying!

Possibly a daft question but doesn’t tea or any other liquid count? I drink several cuppas each day. Will extra glasses of water really make a big difference?

Everyone is really different, some people don't get benefits from being waterlogged.
Good that it helps you, I would have to force myself and feel as if I'm drowning. Bodies also change as we get older.

I drink at least 5 litres on a normal day... Sounds like a lot, but I don't take tea, coffee, fizzy drinks. Have done for years, so no worries about internal drowning lol. I don't get up to pee at night either 🤷🏻‍♀️

5 litres a day?! Just why? Aren't you permanently searching for the restrooms? Surely not when you're out?

I just don't like water and love tea so when thirsty I have tea. So I am struggling. I'm old enough to think drinking water is newfangled!

I think my tea habit keeps me going as I will often drink it when I am not thirsty.
I can tell I am not dehydrated as my wee is pale.

No not for me - tea/coffee doesn’t count

And yes - 2 litres of water makes a huge difference for me

I’m going to try really hard but 2L seems a huge amount to me. Think I’ll have to get a big bottle in the fridge with lemon slices added to it.

@BarbieKew In spite of popular opinion, yes it does. It has been scientifically proved that most liquids will keep you hydrated, even those containing caffeine.

I drink cold water when I am hot and thirsty, which very rarely happens at this time of year. I drink a lot of tea, and my urine is always pale, so I know I am well hydrated.

I work in a school medical room and 'time out and water' is our equivalent of a wet sponge 😂

Tbh I find if difficult sometimes especially if I don’t start early and space the 500ml bottles out appropriately!

I have always found it difficult to drink water to a schedule. I drink when my brain tells me I need to. There was a great BBC documentary series on a few years ago about food and nutrition. One of the episodes covered the whole 'drink 2 litres of water a day' advice. It was concluded that this was not necessary, provided you are drinking enough liquid - whatever your preference, eg tea, coffee, cordial etc (not alcohol). And the way to tell if you are drinking enough liquid is to keep an eye on the colour of your urine. It should be pale or clear. Obviously, if you have been exercising or if you live in a hot climate, you need to drink more, but it doesn't have to be water. I was relieved because I honestly feel so unwell when I drink water at times when my body isn't telling me to. It's like when I go to MIL's and she offers me a cup of tea. Sometimes I say no because I'm not thirsty. This does not compute with her at all. You're supposed to take tea whether you're thirsty or not😆

I used to drink Diet Coke, but swapped to fizzy water and fresh lime juice. I can’t drink coke now, it’s too sweet, and I occasionally crave a fizzy water. I wouldn’t have said that 12 months ago.

One twin just stuck to their normal daily drinking habits and the other drank 2 litres of water on top of her normal daily drinking.

At the end of the testing period medical tests found no difference at all between them.

It wouldn't have made any difference though. The counterintuitive thing is that your body utilises H2O molecules in the exact same way regardless of whether it comes from water, milk, soup or diet pop. It's all the same. In fact, there are studies which quite confidently point that water has pretty bad short term hydration potential compared to milk and tea, for example.
The original water consumption guidance suggested 1,5l of water and stipulated that most of it should come from food. Somehow, the guidance changed over the years with the liquid "requirement" growing exponentially but, sadly, there is still no evidential base for it.
"Drink when you are thirsty" is a good rule of thumb. Anything else is a wonderful power of placebo in action.

I agree with this, bar old folks who sometimes don't feel thirsty when really they are. I've also overhydrated a few times, which can be as dangerous (if not more dangerous) as becoming dehydrated.

I agree. Just need to make myself start drinking water instead of copious cups of tea, Pepsi max and the odd glass of wine.

Yes, anything containing liquid counts towards your daily water intake.

Except alcohol. Caffeinated are diuretics - you might wee more but you’re still net hydrated. Eg 150ml drink, usually wee out 50ml, caffeinated will add another 20ml wee, still up 80mls hydration (have weed out 70). Made up numbers but that’s the theory.

Alcohol dehydrates.

Oh I think I saw that one with the twins too. But the one I was thinking of was called The Truth About Food and really was a very long time ago. I'm a right age😆

Just shoutout to everyone- to say - I’m in my first 500ml water bottle of the day RIGHT NOW and I’m finding it hard !
