Been a total hypocrite with my family and told them not to touch any of the ‘Christmas food’..I can take or leave the chocolates, cakes, Pringles..but everyone is out and i’m sat by the fire, candles, film on and a biggg plate full of assorted cheese and crackers/biscuits

God, I LOVE cheese 🧀

This year I feel I've planned less and bought less. I was fine with that. Until I realised it included cheese. Can I go shopping tomorrow to get some??

Surely you know Christmas isn't Christmas without a sinful amount of cheese? 😁

justjuggling · 23/12/2024 22:58

I have found my people!

Have made 3 different chutneys this year to accompany my cheese mountain - pineapple, spiced plum, and tomato. Cannot wait to try them with all the cheeses!

Need more details about the cheese vending machine. Sounds awesome.

Projectme · 23/12/2024 23:00

Had to smile...there's another thread on here posted by someone who's disgusted with her DH for tucking into a slab of cheese 'before he was allowed to' 🫡 by OP.

Apparently the cheese bought for xmas can only be eaten on xmas day and not before. to do such a heinous crime means he is devoid of morals and seeks immediate gratification rather than displaying immense will power. 🤔I though the concept of 'buying cheese for xmas' started in November which means there is a need to then buy subsequent 'cheese for xmas' every week after?!

Fancy being told you can't eat the cheese!!! 😉😱

Double cheese?? Its a Christmas miracle! 🥰😁

this has inspired a blasphemous daydream about a nativity scene with cheese in the manger and three wise men carrying gifts of chutney, crackers and olives.

I think it would make a lovely centrepiece for the dinner table. Plus the Christmas message would be so much more relatable if we were called to adore a Big Cheese. And then eat it.

i expect to be banned now. Or struck down by lightning.

CatCaretaker · 23/12/2024 23:13

This is the thread I need to read. 39 weeks today so can't eat any of the usual delicious cheeses this year, but will make up for it next year.

So glad to hear that others are doing right by the Christmas cheeses.

UggyPow · 23/12/2024 23:21

We had baked camembert for dinner,
Delicious 😋
I think we have in excess of 10 different types for the Christmas cheese board 😁😁🧀🧀

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 23/12/2024 23:32

DH ordered me some cheese for my Christmas present. He ordered so late that the only delivery date left was 19th. It's all to be eaten within 2 weeks of packing (packed on 17th!). That's my excuse for starting early!
Loving the 'double cheese' and 'cheese party for 1' posts.

My Tesco order was due today and they emailed beforehand to say all the cheese I'd ordered was unavailable! So of course I stocked up while in Marks... only to find that the email was wrong, all the cheese was there. So I've double Christmas cheese to get through. Am sure I'll manage somehow...

I am free if you need any help.

CalicoPusscat · 23/12/2024 23:41

Aha, my little cheese friends!

mondaytosunday · 24/12/2024 00:09

When my DH was alive we had 6-8 people on Christmas Day and the same the nex t plus a few people around for drinks and nibbles. My DH decided one year to get a small fridge to keep all the extra cheese in which we tucked away in a corner of the dining room. Months later I looked at the fridge and wondered if we still needed to run it so opened to check - you guessed it all the cheese was still there! We had totally forgotten about it.

Heretic... it's little baby cheeses in the manger

Ladyzfactor · 24/12/2024 03:43

I spent thirty dollars on cheese the other day.

Most of my Christmas food budget went on cheese and crackers! They are my favourite Xmas food. Got lots of different types but not especially fancy ones. The only one I missed was Stilton but that's because I adore blue cheese and eat it regularly all year round (mainly Danish Blue and Stilton). Got nibbly bits (olives, various pickled things, etc) to go with the cheese so I am set. I am having Christmas day with family but the rest of the time will be home alone but I have my cheese so it's all good 😍

You poor thing. Are you okay? Do you need some supportive crackers sent?

I was going to be supportive in a different way and say that I'm happy to help eat any excess cheese 😋. I've just replaced my Christmas cheese because they've mysteriously disappeared.

Do we get to adore and eat the baby cheese too, because I'd be totally on board for that.

CookieMonster28 · 24/12/2024 06:28

Oh Christ

You've just made me realise I've got all the cheese and crackers....

But no fecking chutney!!!! 😭

I have an appointment today and will drive home past Asda so I will see what I can get. I normally buy loads of cheese but this year it was like it was too difficult. I know that sounds weird.

WillowTit · 24/12/2024 06:30

my dm got us a cheese board for Christmas,
but it is miniscule!
had to buy more

Lex345 · 24/12/2024 07:11

You are all very bad, I am now going to have to raid the Christmas cheese for tonight's meal 😂 i am doing a buffet and already have loads of goodies planned but now all I can think about is wensleydale on hovis biscuits

Stopeatingwoman · 24/12/2024 10:47

JFC I should NOT have succumbed to the cheese, I was awake most of the night, just wide awake, could not sleep…was that all
the cheese?!!

No, I get it. Cheese is relatively expensive and for those of us who really love it, it tends to demand more of our time and brain power than other things. I don't need to go to a specialist outlet for chocolate, (a box of Lindt truffles from Sainsbury's will do) but cheese is a whole different matter, involving an investment of time to go to a cheesemonger and memory about what I got the last time I was there. Also, it's so susceptible to individual preference. I'm a huge cheese enthusiast, but for some reason, Brie leaves me a bit cold. My DH loves it, so we often have some in. But we only have the two of us to cater to. . .if you have a houseful, getting cheese to please everybody could easily become so difficult you put it off till the last minute.

2025willbemytime · 24/12/2024 11:21

Thank you@Tortielady your reasoning is very insightful although not fitting my scenario but I have decided I am going to buy some cheese. Recommendations would be great. All I have so far are the red and green packs which look like dollops of Philadelphia with herbs, some Wensleydale, Red Leicester and a sliced pack, probably Emmenthal or Gouda. I need a blue cheese and at least one other. This is woeful compared to my usual cheese shop.

I've got Harrogate Blue and Roquefort, which are beautiful blues, but there's also Shropshire Blue and Cornish Blue and they're lovely. A decent Cheddar rarely goes amiss and I'd also get some sheep or goat's cheese - they tend to have a more crumbly texture.

2025willbemytime · 24/12/2024 13:04

I will try for Roquefort. I always just buy Stilton but recently discovered one in a pyramid shaped tub that is spreadable and is delicious. I'm excited to go and see what there is. Thank you @Tortielady .

Jewelanemone · 24/12/2024 13:13

I'm convinced cheese evaporates. How else to explain the disappearance of the slab of Wensleydale with Brandied Fruit that was in the fridge, nay, merely a week ago!

'Tis a Yuletide mystery worthy of M R James.
