Sly extra spending at Morrisons (insert other supermarket as preferred)

Just a heads up for folks to keep their eyes on the cashier whilst packing up your Christmas big shop into bags.

Husband was brilliant in loading the conveyor with big shop and dutifully stood uncomplaining with wallet in hand to pay.

I took on the packing duty, (seasoned experience applies) and we had us all done in due course. Cashier certainly did not rush, chatting to her colleague about their breakfast....

Anyway, when we were told the total by the cashier I asked her to double check as I was sure I'd seen her double scan a bottle of champagne. Prefuse apologies received, machine checked and double scan hastily removed. Husband then happily paid.

Before leaving the till area a quick scan of the receipt showing more double scanning, in excess of £23!

Had to go to customer service for refund to husband's debit card. Assistant there didn't bat an eyelid, didn't want to check anything and refunded amount in record time. We thought she must be used to providing double scan refunds at this time of year. If we hadn't checked, we'd be nearly £50 out of pocket!!!

Just another shopper trying keep the cost of living to the cost of living, and not unnecessarily adding to the profits of the supermarket!

Keep 'em peeled...👀

SIL worked at B and Q. She used to get her family coming through the tills and she would just pretend to scan items so they got them free. If someone scanned through some luxury items twice, another person could pick them up and nobody would be any the wiser when it came to a stock take or checking tills.

So you wouldn’t be able to spend “his” money if he wasn’t there, doing you such a favour by “dutifully paying for Christmas”?

Your relationship sounds unbearable if you’re grateful for what he’s done (for you?) today.

mumda · 23/12/2024 19:13

More card offers not working and they're giving 10% discount.

I'd ring up and complain but you are likely to be in a queue.

Shimmyshimmyshimmy · 23/12/2024 19:14

He's 66!! In his own words on the way there he said he would be dutifully paying for Christmas!!

eh? Who cares if he’s 26, 66 or 86?

I'm not praising him, just acknowledging to myself that my years of investment have paid of

this is really fucking depressing. You’ve invested years of your life to get your husband to load the shopping without complaining and then pay for it? Do you not have money?

Differentstarts · 23/12/2024 19:14

Just be mindful that not only is it busier then normal but shops also hire Christmas temps so more mistakes are likely to happen. Also when it's busy computer systems start failing more. I don't see why a cashier would purposely double scan your shopping they don't work on commission they get paid the exact same either way

FeegleFrenzy · 23/12/2024 19:15

Rudicoolcat · 23/12/2024 18:31

Not madly busy, except for the chattering 😆 and £50 worth of double scanning doesn't seem genuine, hence the sly...

But it’s of no benefit to her so I don’t really think the sly label is fitting. She won’t get to keep the £50. 🤷‍♀️

Imjustlikeyou2 · 23/12/2024 19:16

Yeah Lidl are awful for this, they put codes in by hand for fresh fruit/veg items. If I recall correctly the code for cucumber is 33 but if they don’t press enter it charges you for 33x the next item they scan… I noticed but god knows if I’ve been over charged before not noticing!

The bar really has been set on the floor for some men, hasn't it. Despite having a penis the clever boy managed to pack some bags without whining about having to perform this heroic and staggeringly mundane act of adulting.

No, he didn’t pack bags. OP was very clear she did that because ‘experience’. He just put things from a trolley onto the belt then tapped his credit card. I bet he wasn’t involved in putting stuff in the trolley either. Except maybe choosing men’s stuff like whisky, I guess.

NiftyPeachDreamer · 23/12/2024 19:17

Yes I always check my receipt afterwards.

I almost came a cropper in Asda using their Scan and Go app on my phone. It’s SO easy to double scan an item on the app.

Luckily I got selected for a random check and the lady found I had double scanned a few things.

She also found that I neglected to pay for my solitary onion! 😬 By accident thankfully, so I wasn’t banned for pilfering 16p worth of goods!

I'm not praising him, just acknowledging to myself that my years of investment have paid off😄 and he knows what his part in the big Christmas shop is!! 🤣

I don’t know what you mean. Years of investment? In what?

cuteyfluff · 23/12/2024 19:18

It's not sly it's just a cock up

I can only assume lessons?

Sounds like it’s taken years of training on the OPs part to get her dh to learn how to pack shopping bags and use a credit card? 🤣. I had no idea it was so difficult that training was needed.

cardibach · 23/12/2024 19:19

SapphireOpal · 23/12/2024 19:00

Why don't you just use your own card to pay for it and leave him at home? So many couples in the shops today getting in everyone's way where one person would sufficed.

Or why not send him alone?

lemonyellows · 23/12/2024 19:20

Seriously. Do you think the supermarket cashiers would be doing this deliberately? For what end?? 🤣

spuddy4 · 23/12/2024 19:20

@MixedCouple2 I don't know what Tesco you worked at but I've never ever heard of this and I've worked for Tesco for a long time. Bonus has always been a percentage of your contracted hours, that's why everyone gets different.

SapphireOpal · 23/12/2024 19:21

cardibach · 23/12/2024 19:19

Or why not send him alone?

Well yes, even better - but OP will claim he couldn't possibly be trusted to buy the Christmas food shop by himself...

Disturbia81 · 23/12/2024 19:21

I don't think it was sly, it will be accidental but at the same time it shouldn't be happening. Many won't notice

cardibach · 23/12/2024 19:21

Rudicoolcat · 23/12/2024 19:10

Indeed!! My nice husband is sitting with a nice glass of spirit and enjoying the nice comments 🤣🤣

Nice is fine. Needing credit for normal stuff is not ‘nice’ though, not really.

Is she saying it's taken years to teach him how to load the conveyor belt? 😂

cuteyfluff · 23/12/2024 19:24

Husband was brilliant in loading the conveyor with big shop and dutifully stood uncomplaining with wallet in hand to pay.

Does he normally leave you to it and moan about the money?

He still can’t pack shopping bags. He just unloaded. She did the bags because ‘experience’ apparently.
