Went out for an ABBA night at a hotel. We didn't book a room as it was fairly local but we did pay £40 per head for a 3 course meal and ABBA tribute night.

  1. The actual food we got was very different to what the menu said. The soup was meant to come with croutons, we only got one each. The turkey was very dry and everything was cold. The desert was missing the winter berry compote advertised on the menu.
  2. The ABBA tribute was just 2 ladies. Tbh, they were alright but we were of course expecting Bjorn and Bennie tributes. Didn't feel quite the same.
  3. We were waiting forever at the bar when it wasn't even busy. Bar staff kept walking off, seemed to take forever to make the drinks, we were just stood for ages.

For £40pp we expected more.. I don't know what i'm expecting but just for feedback really, I feel to complain. We left a bit disappointed

Your complaints are fairly minor to be fair, and as others have said, you can't complain about the food after you've eaten it and left. Sounds disappointing but too late now 🤷‍♀️

(PS: Crouton(s) are SUPPOSED to be served 'in the soup'...were you expecting a side dish of croutons?? 🤦‍♀️)

Aren’t croutons (or crouton) always served in the soup?

I work with a restaurant that occasionally have live music and a few times a year they will have an abba tribute act, and it’s only the two women, so that might be more common than it sounds, quite good for this particular restaurant as it saves space, maybe the same for the hotel.

£40 is cheap for a meal plus band - I think it's a case of you get what you pay for.

GooseGoldenEgg · 23/12/2024 07:35

I'd complain about the fact it was only half a tribute act and the service sounds rubbish.

herecomesthegeneral · 23/12/2024 07:43

Are you in Scotland by any chance OP? If so, think we may have experienced the same ABBA tribute act

ThinWomansBrain · 23/12/2024 07:56

I can see it's disappointing - but £40 for a three course meal and entertainment, my expectations would not have been high,
The food wasn't "very different" - crouton count I couldn't be bothered about, the food being cold I'd have complained about at the time, and by the time it got to the lack of berry compote I'd have given up I think.
Give it an honest review on google /trip advisor & move on.

What would you expect by complaining now? they can't reheat the food, and are unlikely to send the missing croutons.
At best you might get a discount voucher - would you really want to go back?

£40 per head, right near Christmas is pretty bloody cheap! I’d have low expectations to be honest.
And yes, I would expect to have a wait at the bar, that’s pretty standard all year round.

In fact, £40 per head for a 3 course meal is pretty cheap any night of the year.

Hankunamatata · 23/12/2024 08:02

Did you complain at the time that the food was cold?
