Can’t see any advice online!

The mind boggles! Do you put fuel in the car with your child in it?

Yes, and you can also put fuel in the tank with toddler in the car. You can even <clutches pearls> pay for your fuel with toddler in the car, because said car will not explode in your absence (despite Mumsnet doomsday theories).

Tyres can blow at any time - mine blew when I was driving. If you’re going for that logic your toddler should never be in the car at any point.

@comedycentral yes exactly. I was going to suggest one of us did it if better for dd not to be in car

Ahh, first baby?

You're really overthinking this.

cakeorwine · 22/12/2024 09:05

Have you ever been in a car when air is being put in?
I think DS was in the car last week.
Or do you ask everyone to get out when you are inflating them?

@cakeorwine in the past one of us has been in the shop while the other did it, so it’s never come up

No. It's very dangerous. There have been cases in the past where people have got distracted and put air into the toddler instead.

😂

Booksandwine80 · 22/12/2024 09:09

Please don’t do this, I made this mistake with toddler DD and the car floated away. She’s still floating around up in the atmosphere somewhere 🤣

Howmanycatsistoomany · 22/12/2024 09:12

OP. Seriously. Give your head a shoogle. 😂

Right so just do that then. There isn't a need to 'suggest' it.

I don't see why you would need to discuss that with the other person.

Either go without the toddler. Or get the toddler out while the other person does the tyres.

FKAT · 22/12/2024 09:14

Depending on toddler lung capacity, I think that an air pump would be better.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/12/2024 09:15

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/12/2024 08:47

No, the toddler should be learning how to inflate the tyres.

There's an age limit for petrol pumps , is there an age limit for Air Pumps ?

My toddler is 300 months old , I was demonstrating how to fill the tyres and he stamped his foot and said he'd "Look on YouTube"

Maybe having a pissy fit because I made him get out of the car ?

Good grief!!!

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 22/12/2024 09:16

Best place for a toddler when you’re doing an outside job. They can’t get into any mischief while you’re distracted. Mine liked being in the car while it was pressure washed too.

CautiousLurker01 · 22/12/2024 09:18

Of course it’s no issue. The tyres are measured by air pressure not volume and most inflation devices cut out if the pressure is too high (ie, the tyre is full).

OldTinHat · 22/12/2024 09:19

Erm, yes.

bifurCAT · 22/12/2024 09:22

It's a well-known fact that babies are not allowed to be slowly elevated by a millimetre, particularly at the exact speed of an inflating tyre.

User820825 · 22/12/2024 09:23

And also, what do you mean you were going to suggest one of you did it?

It's not a two person job ordinarily.

ClairDeLaLune · 22/12/2024 09:34

Probably best that the toddler is standing up whilst they’re inflating the car tyres rather than sitting in their seat!

terryisyourfriend · 22/12/2024 09:36

Think about how heavy a lorry is when it is serviced. If a tyre needed inflating would they unload it completely.

Forgottenwhatitwas · 22/12/2024 09:49

A nice man in a tyre shop once put air in my tyre while I was still sat in the car. You'll be fine

CranfordScones · 22/12/2024 09:51

It's a sensible question - I presume the OP is suggesting that the extra weight may put more force on the tyres and thereby affect the pressure reading. It probably does but not enough to make a difference in the case of a toddler.

If you read your car manual, many tell you to increase the tyre pressures when the vehicle is heavily laden.

Other responses are the usual mnet level of being dismissive - perhaps OP just thinks about things at a deeper level...

I only inflate people once they have got out of the car, otherwise they might get stuck in the door
