No one told me

Long story short. I m 57, my parents divorced when I was 18 and no contact with father since. Not my choice but he remarried and had another child and I didn't want to intrude. Time passed. My mother and step father are now elderly and when updating family about a recent change in their health I was told casually my father had died some years previously. I m upset no-one told me at the time. Or am I being stupid

Oh that’s sad. I would have wanted to know too x

MumChp · 21/12/2024 14:24

Yes, they should have told you but maybe noone thought about it as you choose not to see your father.

TheSandgroper · 21/12/2024 14:26

Not being stupid. Like it or not, he was fundamental to your being and that’s a strong concept.

ChristmasfoodisOverrated · 21/12/2024 14:29

Oh I'm so sorry op, that's shit. Relationship or not, he was still your dad, and you deserved to know. What if you had wanted to go to see him at any point if he was unwell. I don't agree that they didn't tell you at all.💐

Deedeedoe · 21/12/2024 14:35

I would have attempted a relationship with him but he seemed to disappear. Thanks for your opinions and thoughts. Much appreciated xx

No you're not being stupid at all - his death would stir up all sorts of emotions - on top of all that, there's the fact you weren't told at the time. Of course you would be upset. Flowers
