For me, Yodel. Everything arrives late and/or broken. Have sent with them once and the parcel was lost.

Evri is our best if you discount Amazon Prime.

Royal Mail also good but often won't leave the parcel so end up having a 9 mile round-trip to the sorting office to pick it up.

... on the plus side, I'm now only waiting for one delivery side of Christmas!

I must be very lucky, or a boring old sod who never goes out, but I’ve never had a problem with any delivery company. I get all of my shopping online as I am unable to walk around shops but I seem to get deliveries on the given day, or even earlier, by very pleasant people. If they are regulars, they know that I might take a while to answer the door and tend to leave the parcel but wait in their car until I open the door. Many of them who wait at the door offer to bring the parcel inside when they see me on crutches but I keep a trolly at the door to help me.

I do live in a “ safe “ area so if I’m out, parcels are fine left outside my door under the canopy. It’s rare nowadays for them to be left with my neighbour or not delivered.

Im very grateful for being able to have deliveries and always thank the drivers if I see them, they are a lifeline for me.

This year Amazon have...

  • lost a laptop
  • written off my neighbours car
  • crashed into another neighbours fence
  • delivered our parcel to a neighbours bin
  • delivered parcels to us for a different street
  • had an a rather amusing fight after just abandoning their van in the middle of the road during school pick up time (live near a school)

Does anyone remember CityLink? They were incredibly shit.

Does anyone remember CityLink? They were incredibly shit.

And lying bastards,I worked retail, trade shop my heart sank if something was coming by city link because I knew they'd fuck it up.

Evri by a long way. I recently had a parcel sent back to the sender by Evri after one 'delivery attempt'. But they never attempted delivery! I was at home during the day, and have security cameras. I didn't even know they could do this. I was left out of pocket until the item was returned.

worriedhidinginplainsight · 21/12/2024 04:58

DHL are absolutely hideous for me. Hideous!!

Evri are wonderful in my area....which goes against popular opinion!

I've had to stop ordering my cats supplies from Zooplus, because you never know what company they are going to use. When they use Evri my delivery is always fine. Sometimes they use Yodel, who are just about acceptable, but the drivers will not carry my order up to my second floor flat. And sometimes, most recently they use DHL, who don't even bother attempting to deliver my parcels! They inundate me with messages saying that they have my parcel, but it never materialises. I'm dissapointed that I can't use Zooplus anymore because of their hit and miss delivery system.

But of course, overall, Amazon is the best.....almost 100% perfect deliveries. And when Amazon drivers don't do things correctly, Amazon customer service is so helpful and stress free to deal with.

Kerantli · 21/12/2024 05:01

In the last week, we've had deliveries from Royal mail, Amazon, Parcel Force, Yodel and Evri.

Evri is the only one that hasn't got my parcel to me by the date it was meant to arrive every time. My heart sinks when I see it's an Evri delivery on anything, quite often choosing to find what I'm looking for elsewhere

fireworks345 · 21/12/2024 05:30

Evri.
The first reason is that I never get an email to be able to reschedule the delivery when I know in advance I'm not going to be in. The second one is the delivery driver. Parcels gets thrown over the fence when I'm not in, often causing damage to anything fragile, ie glass lamp, lawnmower, lawn scarifier Confused

XWKD · 21/12/2024 05:39

I use Amazon Prime a lot. The service has been great so far.

I've had issues with all of the major multinational couriers.

muddyford · 21/12/2024 05:42

Evri worst,k by a country mile, Amazon and Royal Mail best.

Gumbo · 21/12/2024 05:47

I've always found Amazon very good and extremely reliable.

All of the ones mentioned so far pale into insignificance compared to one I was forced to deal with this week - FedEx.

Holy cow, they're horrific...I landed up wasting nearly 36 hours unable to leave my house while I was waiting for a signed-for parcel. Their app kept promising slots, then each time that time had lapsed it would update with a new (fictional) slot. Their customer service people also cheerfully lied, absolutely promising it would definitely there by X time, which course didn't happen. I eventually was crying with frustration as I urgently needed to go out, but couldn't. If I ever again get wind that FedEx is the courier I'll cancel the order.

RedRiverShore5 · 21/12/2024 06:13

I am very fortunate that they all seem good where I live, Amazon, Evri, Royal Mail, all been excellent in the last week, other couriers which delivered in the last few months, DPD, UPS and Yodel, all excellent.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 21/12/2024 06:17

Yodel. I don't know why, but deliveries from them take forever (I seem to keep buying from sellers on Vinted that use Yodel).

Royal Mail are amazing where I live, and Evri isn't too bad here.

If I have things delivered to work, Evri are absolutely diabolical, needing photos of the door of the building and all sorts. We have lots of deliveries at work, and only Evri can't find us (and it's a large building with good signage 🤷🏻‍♀️)

TimeForATerf · 21/12/2024 06:31

Evri - 10/10 same husband & wife couriers, we have an unspoken agreement as to where they leave the parcels. 100% works every time, I don’t need to be in.
DPD - 10/10 come when they say they will and if I’m not going to be in I can reliably redirect to the local Premier shop.
DHL - 8/10 usually same friendly bloke and his cocker spaniels. Time slot can be long and they don’t safe space.
Royal Mail - 9/10 reliable, will safe space or easy to redirect to local sorting office, have occasionally left on the doorstep.
Amazon Prime - 6/10 never the same driver, dump parcels on doorstep and don’t even put them out of sight, don’t try to knock on the door and have knocked our garden wall down once and scraped it and knocked a lump out of it when it was rebuilt, despite having a permanent note not to come down the drive in large vans.
Yodel - 0/10 heart sinking courier. Leaves parcels at wrong address, denies, useless call centre. My chances of getting a Yodel parcel without stress are about 20%.

SnoopysHoose · 21/12/2024 07:42

Regards Yodel; due to a lack of drivers they currently have 1000s of parcels sitting in warehouses. I had to go to a depot and collect a parcel that had sat unmoving for 3 weeks.
Evri, despite the moans are excellent; fast delivery and excellent regular courier,, bear in mind in 6 weeks to Xmas they handle over 100m parcels so there will be an occasional mishap.

Dontwearmysocks · 21/12/2024 07:44

Evri are fucking useless, yodel also sketchy. Royal Mail can be mostly ok and DPD are great!

SnoopysHoose · 21/12/2024 07:45

@Gingerkittykat
bit of an assumption that the driver opened the box, it goes through a lot of hands before reaching the driver and they are told to deliver unless badly damaged.

Ohnonotmeagain · 21/12/2024 07:47

evri is the worst here.

I’m in a conversion so my house has a name, not a number. From November to Christmas they send parcels back from the warehouse as “incorrectly addressed, no number” and don’t even attempt delivery. Last parcel that made it out for delivery I never saw again, god knows where it went.

amazon and RM are fine, but I suspect that’s because we live near to a sorting office/delivery hub.

the rest are average.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 21/12/2024 08:17

Father Christmas. Useless.

I stayed up late last year and what did I get? Nothing. Not a sausage.

I won't be doing it this year. No mince pies, no carrots for the reindeer. Sod 'em, I say.

(Unless of course he brings me something, rather like Hermes did, when it didn't even have my address on it!👍👍👍)

Auburngal · 21/12/2024 08:44

Evri.

Had a parcel which was delivered once - I was out at the time. Next day I got notification that the parcel will be delivered between x-y. I was going to be out. So requested that the parcel to be delivered to a locker. It got lost afterwards. Got parcel replaced but one of the items was limited edition- sold out.

Evri didn’t have an option for me to put parcel in a customised safe place, like the others. I request behind the wheelie bins. The other couriers do this without problems. There’s only my neighbour who walks past the bins.

Plus Evri doesn’t have an option to talk to a human.

People - if your parcel is lost, stolen (as courier stupid enough to put parcel on full view), damaged- either left out all day or from the impact of throwing it over the side gate. You need to contact the retailer, not the courier.

Auburngal · 21/12/2024 08:50

Like DPD as you can track the van on the app

TempuraCustard · 21/12/2024 08:51

If you're just going to moan about delivery people don't order online.

Auburngal · 21/12/2024 08:53

I agree with RM. Sorting office hours are reduced. Used to be all day for two days a week then 4 hours rest of week. Now it’s only 1.5-2 hours a day. Useless for those who work. Yet there’s always staff in the sorting office through the day. Why reduce the hours?

HelpMeGetThrough · 21/12/2024 09:04

Evri were crap here, but we've got a "man with a van" that delivers here for them now and he's brilliant.

Always smoking a roll up and bombing around dropping off parcels. He never just dumps them in random places if you aren't in.

AyrshireTryer · 21/12/2024 09:08

I think the issue for Royal Mail is that they aren't a parcel delivery company.
Your postie could be the person who delivers your parcel or it could be another postie doing parcel support - someone not used to your area, house or safe place - and possibly delivering in the dark.

You can't follow the postie on an app and find out how many deliveries s/he is away as the technology isn't there. Sorting offices are open for four hours at the most and this is stupid for those who want to go and get a parcel.

Parcels are now heavier and larger than ever before. My neighbour had a 50" TV delivered by the postman! As the number of parcels increase your regular letter deliver fails - so you get 20 letters on one day and may miss hospital letters etc. This is because Royal Mail prioritises parcels over letters.

But I do think delivery people are trying. Maybe offer them use of your loo or a drink when they get to you.
