Social media and smart phone use, should we be worried? And how to manage?

Following on from Errors' post about Australia banning social media for under-16s and 90% of us thinking it seems reasonable! ( Errors' Post | Social Media Ban Article)

I was just wondering what people are doing about smartphones and social media use for their children in general. I couldn't find a post directly discussing solutions and what parents are actively doing or maybe doing nothing is also fine? My children are getting to the age where they will get a smartphone and I am just curious if people are addressing the issue and if so how.

How are parents currently dealing with smartphones and social media? If at all? Should we be doing something or not?
Are you using any existing solutions to address these problems at certain ages? Do they work well or not?

Thanks for the help!

You can’t ban under 16s from SM … they will just find a way round it, and probably be at more risk of harm, as they might not feel able to report incidents.

The cat is out the bag..

We need to teach them about risk, recognising truth from fiction, making content creators responsible etc.
