Special Christmas Day breakfast for kids

nonkynink · 19/12/2024 23:14

Usually they have cereals and/or toast with a piece of fruit. I want to do them something quick and easy but a bit special for Christmas Day breakfast. Dh and I usually have smoked salmon bagels but they don't like this.

Don't care if it's sugary or crap, it's Christmas! One is 13 the other is a preschooler so ideally something to suit both. Don't fancy frying bacon and cooking much but other suggestions welcome!

In our house it’s toaster waffles with squirty cream and mixed berries. Would work with Nutella too but not worth it for the sugar rush!

MayaPinion · 19/12/2024 23:34

Terrys chocolate orange.

DragonFly98 · 19/12/2024 23:34

Isn’t kids Xmas breakfast just chocolate from their stockings?

OK so it's still cereal, but in our house Father Christmas puts the mini packets of coco pops etc from variety packs in the kids' stockings. It goes down a treat.

When I was a kid we always had the mini cereals for breakfast. At Christmas's, Easter and birthdays!

BeensOnToost · 19/12/2024 23:35

Pop Tarts? Or any other junk food masquerading as breakfast that they wouldn't normally be allowed.

JingleB · 19/12/2024 23:36

Isn’t part of the fun having chocolate from your stocking instead of breakfast?

Saying that, I used to do Nigella’s Christmas morning muffins and they’d only take 5 minutes to mix up. I would do it while making the teas and coffees to have while the presents were unwrapped.

But the kids were too pogged on chocolate to care much either way.

We're doing frozen croissants with scrambled egg and smoked salmon. Pocked by my 2 and 5yo. Probably with some fruit and then chocolates from their stockings.

XWKD · 19/12/2024 23:39

I love croissants and Nutella.

RosesAndHellebores · 19/12/2024 23:39

Ours are grown up now but when they were little, having opened their Stockings on our bed at sparrownfart, they usually downed some chocolate and might have had some milk and a biscuit before leaving for church at 9.15.

Pain au chocolat. Feels like a treat, heat up quickly to gooey chocolatey goodness. Reminds me, must put them on my list...

Namechange546 · 19/12/2024 23:42

We do a "french breakfast" - croissant and hot chocolate to dip in.

mrsfollowill · 19/12/2024 23:45

Bag of frozen pastries bung in the oven-perfect! DS loves it and it's been tradition in this house for years- he is 22 now but we still do it Grin I have a coffee and gird my loins to start cooking the turkey. My last day at work tomorrow for 2 weeks and I'm getting excited!

MumonabikeE5 · 19/12/2024 23:48

pancakes or waffles.
prep mix in advance and keep in fridge til the morning.
Fruit and squirt cream?
bacon and maple syrup?

PeloMom · 19/12/2024 23:50

Waitrose sells frozen croissant, pan au chocolate etc in one bag; you bake for about 15 mins and they’re soooo good fresh from
the oven

MerryMaker · 19/12/2024 23:52

Why not go traditional and they can just fill up with chocolate and sweets in their Christmas stocking?

Danikm151 · 19/12/2024 23:53

Hashbrowns(quick in the airfryer if you have one)

Heyyoupleasekeepgoing · 19/12/2024 23:54

Banana bread with chocolate chips, served with vanilla greek yoghurt (m&s) and raspberries

TrixieCat · 19/12/2024 23:56

We have cinnamon rolls 😊. Make the night before and put them in the fridge for a slow overnight rise. Make the cream cheese icing the day before too then just add after baking on Christmas morning. Appreciate it's a bit of faff the day before, but they're not at all complicated to make and I quite enjoy it. Then they take no time at all to sort out on Christmas morning really

RM2013 · 19/12/2024 23:58

Pain au chocolat and croissants

MarieKlepto · 20/12/2024 00:01

I was going to suggest pancakes - from a packet mix or just make the batter the night before and stick it in the fridge. Takes 5 mins. Also, have just Googled and it would appear that all the supermarkets do part-baked frozen/chilled pastries/croissants. Who knew?! (not me, it's probably common knowledge!). Might be an idea if you don't fancy a Christmas Eve trip out to get fresh ones for the next day, and would make the kitchen smell lovely.

DoubleFunMum · 20/12/2024 00:05

We do Santa pancakes. American style pancakes with strawberries and squirty cream making the hat and beard (inspired by Pinterest). We have cinnamon brioche french toast bake etc, the kids are as happy as larry :)

Sounds good, I have also made these with a Nutella filling. Delicious.

wingingit1987 · 20/12/2024 00:13
