To be shocked at how easy it is to steal??

I’ve just been to Superdrug and picked up some chocolate coins and put them in the top of the pram, looked around for awhile and forgot about them. I saw them about 30 seconds after leaving the shop so I went back in and told one of the staff what happened and that I had come back in to pay for them. She said not to worry about it and then I went to the till, paid for them and all was fine. I have autism and anxiety so whilst I’m expecting people to say they wouldn’t have gone back in I would have panicked forever plus I hope I wouldn’t want to steal even if I didn’t have such an anxious brain 😂

Dishonest people wouldn’t go back. Honest people would. I’ve done this on the odd occasion when something didn’t scan/got left in the trolley by mistake.

Yep, I accidentally walked out with a can of pop inder my armpit when paying for my petrol. Only realised I haven't been charged when I was already miles away from the petrol station.

Tracystubbs · 19/12/2024 12:17

I grabbed a meal deal from sainsburys on my way to work the other day

Went through the self scanning, tapped my card and off I went

It was only once I was back at home and checked,I realised, that for whatever reason my card hadn't been charged

Bit late to go back as I'd eaten the evidence!

It's easy done,I wouldn't give it a second thought

(Normally I would have gone back if I'd realised,I'm not a thief!)

I left a local independent newsagents with my 4 year old plus my 6mth old and my 2 Yr old in a double buggy. When outside, I saw to my horror my 2 Yr old had a huge Thortons Easter Egg in her lap! I went straight back in, explained and handed the completely undamaged box back. I was shouted at, told to keep a closer eye on my children, called irresponsible and reminded it was theft. I've never been back since!

My kids nicked two pars of pj's from Primark. They had shoved them in the buggy basket and I didn't notice. I took them back.

Also went to Tesco and walked out without paying for my shopping. I waved my phone but was distracted and didnt realise it hadn't gone through. When I went back they asked me to pay for it, its a small one so they know me.

I don't blame you

Horrible of them to shout at you when you came back

AppleDumplings · 19/12/2024 12:32

Yup. Super easy. I was doing a shop in Tesco and using the self scanners. Looking back it was rather a series of unfortunate events but the end result was I was sat in my car trying to understand why my shopping seemed cheaper than I was expecting. I went back in, queued at customer services, asked them to check my sodden receipt as I didn't have my glasses on, and the guy agreed I had inadvertently relocated £25 worth of booze. He then asked me to return to my car because the paperwork would be a nightmare!! Genuinely couldn't believe it. Even funnier was walking out behind the young couple who were next to me at the counter who were debating who actually goes in and tells them that!

No good deed will go unpunished. Seriously, I found that one of my children had stolen a toy from a shop. I took him back to the shop with it and asked for the manager. The manager gave him a stern talking to and he never tried to steal again.

My dd1 (18 at the time) accidentally walked out of Primark with a full basket of stuff! She only realised when she was halfway down the high street. She was mortified & had to try & sneak back in to return it!

bigkidatheart · 19/12/2024 13:14

I walked out of next when i was very heavily pregnant with a baby outfit hooked to my cardigan (due to my mahoosive arse at the time) - alarms went off and I was mortified

Yourinmyspot · 19/12/2024 13:20

I remember years ago my Mum accidentally stole some vests from mother care. She had all of us four kids with her my youngest sister was in the pram and she suddenly realised we were late for the train so we rushed out and the vests were in the bag (one of those net type ones), still hooked over the pram handle! She sent my Dad back with them to pay the next day.

Another time she found a load of hair bobbles in the push chair that my sister had quietly secreted there.

Soubriquet · 19/12/2024 13:24

My dd when she was a toddler once walked out of a shop with a teddy bear in her hands. I didn’t notice but took it back as soon as I did. They just laughed

angelcake20 · 19/12/2024 13:26

I did this several times with a pushchair! So yes, it's very easy and the money lost to shoplifting is huge.

OneTC · 19/12/2024 13:29

It's easy enough to perform most transgressions and society is quite reliant on the fact that most people don't want to be wankers.

Stillherestillpraying · 19/12/2024 13:33

When I was about 4 I had one of those kiddies shopping trolleys. My mum let me put some tomatoes in it and later on I was hot and took my jumper off and put it in the trolley covering the tomatoes. We didn’t realise until we got home. Went back that afternoon and paid our 45 p hahahaha
