To be worried about what the Labour government will do next?

1000 replies

Scenicgirl · 17/12/2024 22:46

Let's be honest, Labour has been a massive disappointment for this country, pissing off the pensioners with taking away the WFA, the farmers, NI changes which impact employers, immigration etc and today refusing compensation to the WASPI women after they ridiculed the Conservatives when they didn't commit to a solution. Don't we deserve better than this constant shit show of lies and deceptions which were clearly spouted out purely to gain power?
For the 1st time in my life, I worry about where we are heading.

Labour does what it needs to do to keep the union donors happy. No difference between either of the main parties. Reform will probably have Musk friendly policies. The Cons were not really business friendly. Many businesses desisted of their utterly stupid Brexit agreement. The idea they served business well is ludicrous. Most aspects of business are contracting.

Taxes are spent on all areas of government spending and that includes infrastructure. We did privatize utilities and millions of people bought shares. Lots of pension providers are shareholders. We cannot have the state run everything and many services did improve when released from political interference and state funding. Obviously posters aren’t old enough to remember crap services when the state ran businesses.

The pp is selectively quoting the S&P reports, the overall indices, is 50.5, ie in positive territory.

She also forgets that the UK was in a recession in the last 2 quarters of 2023, no mention of that by Tory supporters then or now.....

The previous Govt is in opposition because of their gross mis handling of the economy, something that Labour now have to try and put right.

Bit quick to judge after just 5 months.

That quote from pp is from the FT

Would you prefer they didn't report on a decrease and contraction?

I'm guessing so. Reeves and you both.

EasternStandard · 19/12/2024 08:26

Anyone championing Labour's policies will have to factor in lower funds due to that contraction

I get many are happy on here to keep paying more - apparently, although it's usually someone else paying

Labour contracting the private sector means it's fixing a growing problem and public sector will feel it

We are all paying more now because of Tory policies or rather lack of them plus of course Brexit.

Look at water bills? in the 2010s the Tories allowed billions to go in dividends instead of investment.

NI cuts, Po and blood compensation, teacher nurses pay none of it funded....

We all know you are an avid Tory and will never criticise them but the country is in a mess because of 14 years of mis rule.

I am. We didn’t have shit in our rivers and the sea in those days.

Nope, they reported several PMI indexes, my point is you look for the lowest and worst one and focus solely on that, which is not being even handed.

Like i said, the UK was in recession last year and the overall index is still in positive territory.

& look what Truss did to the UK? and then Brexit? we are still and will continue to, pay for these things for decades to come.

EasternStandard · 19/12/2024 08:37

As for the EU the OECD revised UK growth upward after a stronger than expected first half of year

If Labour do continue in same part and lead us to recession that'll be a revision again so the change will be clear

Yeah but, no but. Unreliable statistics from the ONS, figures from the rest of Europe somehow wrong. Give it a rest @EasternStandard, you’re convincing nobody.

Yo might want to re read/edit or make clear what you mean?

For the pp complaining about focus this is a quote from the FT

Private sector employment in December fell more than during any month since January 2021, according to the S&P Global flash UK purchasing managers’ employment index.
In the third consecutive month of contraction, the index fell to 45.8, down from 48.9 in November. It was far below the key 50 mark and the lowest since 2009 if the pandemic is excluded.

If they don't want that wording complain to the FT

Vannymcvan · 19/12/2024 08:41

Fourteen years of tory rule, and you're worried about what Labour are doing? We can't afford to make the WFA to affluent pensioners - it's a benefit and should be means tested like all benefits. The pension age was raised by the tories, who made it clear there would be no compensation. Labour have fully explained why they are unable to make compensation payments. Farmers? Ye gods, most won't pay inheritance tax, and for the rich landowners that do, it's at half the rate us normals pay.

I think right wing agitators should give the new government more than a few months.

I'm not surprised with the pp and their view on Starmer and Reeves

PMI reports, OECD and FT can't beat that ;

Ah the old staunch Labour insults

They get there in the end.

I'm not sure the defensive loyalty is all that against recession indicators

Selective reporting....

Private sector employment is still up, 27.6m work in private companies.... & private sector pay is up too, meaning people have more money in their pockets to spend in their local economies.

@blossomtoes do you read any news and listen to economics bar pro Labour threads?

You have a quote to start with from the FT

It's really not hard to find it's pretty much reported everywhere, even the Guardian

TBH the only person showing unfailing loyalty, is you to the Tories, how about some recognition of the harms they 've done? nope.

I've criticised the Labour Govt and i don't agree with all they have done at all plus some of the messaging has been awful, showing a lack of experience, though of course to be expected.

5 months vs 14 years.

A quote isn’t good enough. If you want your contribution to be respected supply a link. It’s not difficult, everyone else seems to manage it. A “quote” could be from anywhere and is easily doctored. It’s rude in the extreme to tell people you’re trying to convince to “find it”.

EasternStandard · 19/12/2024 09:01

Stop talking the country down

The pp has an issue with google so needed a link although the defensive attack in response is a good reminder not to bother.

As for information / data that doesn't fit what Labour want it to be write to the media outlets and complain to them.

You can LOL all you want, but things were steadily improving in the first six months of the year. I previously worked for a staffing company and our May figures were looking promising. Things changed as soon as the election was called and have got worse since, particulary since the budget. Luckily, I got out and moved sectors but some of my former colleagues have been made redundant in recent weeks. Other staffing companies are doing the same. Staffing is cyclical and reflects the general position in the economy. It ain’t looking good.
